Common theme in the Ga. Tech locker room

So to recap, Maryland will play Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. on Friday night in the ACC tournament quarterfinals. The Yellow Jackets mounted a second half comeback earlier tonight to stave off North Carolina, 62-58.

After the game, Georgia Tech Coach Paul Hewitt wasn't all that expansive on tomorrow night's match-up against the Terrapins, and that's a little understandable. For one thing, tonight's win likely secured the Yellow Jackets an NCAA tournament bid. And for another thing, Hewitt's lasting memory of the last time his squad played Maryland isn't all that joyous.

Maryland defeated Georgia Tech, 76-74, on Feb. 20 after junior guard Cliff Tucker scored a buzzer-beating, game-winning three-pointer. Hewitt and Maryland Coach Gary Williams acknolwedged then that the Yellow Jackets had done everything they needed to do to get the win.

And from talking to several Georgia Tech players Thursday night, it sure seemed like they shared that opinion, as well. All said they were excited to get another chance to play Maryland, and beyond that, a common theme emerged ...

"I think we've got a good chance of beating them because we know how they play and we're ready for revenge," freshman forward Derrick Favors said.

"As a team and our coaching staff, this is one of the games that we look forward to playing against, especially with how it ended the last time," senior forward Zach Peacock said. "We felt like it could have went either way, and it should have went our way. We're just anxious and we're ready to play this game tomorrow."

A few moments later, Peacock added: "I feel like if we don't turn the ball over as much and execute and just pound it inside -- I mean, pound it inside -- it'll be another 'W' on our schedule."

Senior forward Gani Lawal spoke along similar lines.

"That's our strength every time we step on the floor," Lawal said. "We want to flex our muscle everytime, and that's what we're going to do tomorrow: Inside-out; inside-out. Pound it inside. We feel they can't stop us. Not to be cocky or anything, but that's just a fact -- they can't stop us down low ... We took (the Terrapins) out of their stuff, we shot 40-whatever percent, and we're going to get 'em back."

"We made plays," senior swingman D'Andre Bell said. "In the ACC basketball it's all about making plays, and we made plays at key moments. Unfortunately, they made the biggest one of them all with a lucky game-winner."

So there you have it. It would seem the Yellow Jackets do not lack for confidence entering Friday night's contest against Maryland.

Lucky? Clean pass, clean catch, feet square, nice pump fake, beautiful release, gorgous follow through... BAM.... you lose Georgia Tech... Wasn't lucky at all... was a skilled player doing what he's trained his whole life to do. Sorry Bell.

Look to see improved rebounding against GT, better boxing out, and keeping the ball out of Favor's hands. MD did not play a great game at all the first time but Tucker (and GV) bailed the team out. JW's progression will truly be on display as I am certain he has prepared for Favors more effectively having played against him once before. This is a fairly neutral court game for both teams. Look to MD to take this one and advance by hitting FTs at the end of the game.

I have an uneasy feeling about this game. They're a tough interior team that took us to the wire at home. I'm hoping our legs are a big fresher and, obviously, our coach is on a different level. I see GT playing inside out and hitting a plethora of 3's early in the game before their legs lose a bit of push and their shots start falling short. Terps will come back late and eeek out a win, moving on. Let the journey toward a 3 seed begin.

who knows what could come out of this game. Besides Duke however Tech most certainly has the most talent where it would hurt us....on the interior. Our guard play and interior defense must be playing well above average to comfortably beat this team. With this said, I hope gary sends the terps straight at Favors and beat em at their own game.

luck was the shot by Vasquez moments before, bad luck was the time-out call, great play by Hayes and Tucker was the winning shot. bring on your "revenge", GT.

I was much more worried about this game until I read the GT commentary. That will have the boys properly fired up.

Does GT not remember we were up 5 with 3 minutes to play in that game? We had that game under control prior to two bad turnovers.

Tonight should be exciting

They talk a lot of junk for a team that barely beat the worst team in the league and lost to the team they're playing next.

Might be Favor's last game if the bubble wasn't so favorable this year. Don't expect him to stay another year. Box him out, win the game. Look to see more size in this game - playing LM at 3 with DG and JW on the floor. Depth is key here, and we have more of it than any other team in the tourney - the back-to-backs wear the kids out. We do have depth at guard so GW will need to be smart about rotating the bigs.

It does semm they are talking smack. Note that the game in CP was possibly the worst home officiating in the ACC this year as well. It should not have been as close as it was. JW, DG, JP and LM (and hopefull SG!!!) box them out and we win like I said at the top.

Yes acne is an entrance requirement into Duke. Having actually kissed a girl is grounds for denying entrance. b*stard.
