Maryland to play Georgia Tech in ACC tournament quarterfinals
The Maryland men's basketball team now knows who it will face tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the ACC tournament quarterfinals -- seventh-seeded Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets erased a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat tenth-seeded North Carolina, 62-58, Thursday night in a first round match-up. With the win, Georgia Tech took another stride toward earning an NCAA tournament bid, but one more sure wouldn't hurt its resume.
The Yellow Jackets made their comeback after point guard Iman Shumpert became more engaged in the team's offense in the second half. They also made a more concerted effort to feed the ball inside to Gani Lawal and Derrick Favors.
I'll post something a little later with postgame comments from the Georgia Tech locker room.
What are your initial thoughts on Maryland facing the Yellow Jackets tomorrow night?

I woulda sure rather taken UNC tomorrow over Tech. They're going to come out hungry.

I fear that MD will come out flat, still a bit wide-eyed from the new arena, big crowd, etc.; while GT will play with a lot of energy out of the gates. But MD will take control in the second half, working on all cylinders, while GT fades down the stretch due to fatigue/lack of leadership. That's the way I see it -- MD 76, GT 72

UNC couldn't hit water if they were sitting in boats, so I kind of expected this matchup. We were absolutely crushed on the boards last time, and if Tech could shoot free throws with ANY efficiency, Tucker's Rainbow never happens.
So since both sides know the scouting report on how Tech plans on coming out - drive and crash - I'm taking the team with the coach with the NC ring. Terps 75 Tech 69.
GO TERPS!!!

ok, it looks like I'm back after registering with I don't know how many e-mail addresses. All in an attempt to make a more child friendly user name.
Poopy - Make sure you don't try this at home if a Blue Devil is around.

Great call. I remember thinking this at the time but had forgotten about it.

If the Terps show up focused and rested, they'll have no problem with GaTech. If they look past them to Saturday, it could be a long night for Terp fans!
Go Terps!!!
