Maryland names A.D. search committee

A 17-member search committee was assembled Tuesday to seek out candidates to fill Maryland's full-time athletic director position, the school announced in a press release. Men's basketball Coach Gary Williams, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank and former Maryland men's basketball star Len Elmore are among the committee members.

Dr. Linda Clement, vice president for student affairs, will chair the search committee charged with finding the school's next athletic director. Debbie Yow, who had served in that role for 16 years, was introduced Friday as the new athletic director at N.C. State. Maryland Chief Financial Officer Randy Eaton was named interim athletic director on Monday.

The full list of the committee members is as follows:

  • Dr. Linda M. Clement, vice president for student affairs

No rep from the FB team??? Wonder if that's because of the current contract situation (ie..Friedgen for one more year then Franklin)? Both the FH and Men's Soccer coaches are on the committee and they are Fall sports, so that shouldn't be a reason for FB not being represented...Interesting!!!

I think it's most interesting when you look at it this way:

Gary Williams (2002)
Brenda Freese (2006)
Missy Meharg (1993, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2008)
Sasho Cirovski (2005, 2008)

Just never understood this academia thing where future subordinates are part of a search committee. All that really matters is who is going to decide on the hire. Surely this committee will recommend, but consensus is not something that is realistic from a group like this.

Gotta go with TerpGrad on this. No FB representation?

Rivals has Terps ranked at 92nd. The football program certainly has equities in this selection.

Looking forward to another great season.
