Maryland-Wake Forest kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.

Just got back to my computer. Maryland's game against Wake Forest at home on Oct. 30 will kickoff at 3:30 and will be televised on ESPNU. I'm happy about that, and I hope you are, too.

By the way, this is Maryland's easiest remaining game, a virtual must-win situation.

That's perfect. There's plenty of time to tailgate before the game without having to get up too early.

It's nice to see that Barno1 is still up to his old tricks of insulting various posters who he disagrees with. Nice seeing him tell people how to be "real" fans, what "real" fans can and cannot do, how "real" fans act. Nice also to see Barno1 calling people idiots, morons, etc.

Nothing like being a bully on the internet huh Barno1?

While you're at it, telling people how to how to not act why don't you tell everyone just how you're smearing Poopy_McPoop in some pathetic attempt to get him banned from the site. Why don't you tell people how you're Anti-American and why you spit on the 1st Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing freedom of speech.

C'mon Barno1 time to man up and tell everyone about the lies you're emailing The Post and Dan Steinberg in your sad attempt to get Poopy banned.

Looks like Poopy McPoop is back with a new name. He posted the same comment on the Redskins Insider today.

Also Barno1, while you're manning up, why don't you tell everyone how you're a convicted e? Or how bout you tell everyone how you got your dog killed because you thought it'd be fun to pull a Mike Vick and get into dog fighting? Or how about telling everyone how you make homophobic and xenophobic comments both on the internet and in public?

C'mon Barno1, time to be a big boy and fess up to your sins.

Looks like Poopy/ralph edited his comment about Barno1's dog when he reposted his comment here. Apparently Poopy_McPoop finds it oh so funny to joke about someone's dead dog. I am with Barno on this one. Personally, I am glad poopy got banned. Hopefully his new moniker ralph_melish will get banned now too.

My family's dog was also named dixon, til he was killed by a neighbor's dog a few weeks ago. Assuming yours was also named after the juan and only.

now barno, I'll say this. It's terribly unfortunate to hear about your dog. I almost wanted to make a joke about it (just to really, really rile you up and be a jerk) but thought better

Wow. Just wow. Poopy_McPoop/ralph_melish. This is one demented sob. You kinda almost have to feel sorry for Poopy, when you think about how much time he spends each week obsessing about yours truly.

And on a totally unrelated subject...

So I'm a fan of both barno and poopy and look forward to their posts. I've met Barno and he is a Terps superfan - if there was a game show on terps trivia, I guarantee he'd win hands down. Poopy is a fan of the team as well and clearly an alum with a twisted and funny sense of humor. I hope we are all on the board real soon celebrating some MEANINGFUL early season BB victories. Once upon a time I was accused of being Poopy, and I fell for hyphen- Poopy as well at first. So I personnally hope no one gets banned - because I have tried to change this screen name in the interests of not offending anyone but instead I learned one lesson - NEVER trust anyone who went to Duke - or at least the guy I sit next to.

imo joking about someone's dog dying is neither cool nor funny.

back to FB - we have two losses to two pretty good teams. We have no losses to crappy teams - yet. With the lack of clarity at starting QB and questionable OC play-calling, that's kind of ok. If we had gone say 7-5 last season, I think most of us would be ok where we sit this season. I am certain that JF will receive his $1M to leave and that will be money well spent. Yes, the o-line has been thin (lacking depth) but our former o-linemen are disproportionately represented in the ranks of the NFL. I do think that proves that RF knows how to develop players because I'm not certain any of them were 5-star recruits. What we have NEEDED is better QB play. Turner had flashes a few seasons ago but his work ethic did him in last season because he regressed. DOB might be the answer for a few years - certainly moreso than J-Rob is for one desperate season (and yes, the entire coaching staff is desperate).

Probably one of the MOST disappointing things for me as a MD fan was watching Bobby Ross win a NC with GT without nearly the talent he had while at MD. Our guy left and won elsewhere (and we all know who the OC was for that team). I still don't buy that the mystery prize behind door #2 is anything better than what we've got now. RF actually has through the end of next season per his existing contract to set the program on the correct course. He will not be bought out because it makes zero financial sense to. So I'm hoping we win. We NEED to beat Wake and BC - no screw-ups against scrub teams and take a few more games from some of the better teams in the conference. We need to start youngsters so that the "youth" excuse becomes inapplicable.

Tailgate starts at 9:30, Lot 9B.. Let's see how many dedicated and loyal Terp alumni are there, and how many actually buy a ticket and go to the game...I didn't even go to Maryland, but have been there with season tickets since the great old Duffner days... Attendence prediction???? Will Barno get his 40,000 to this one???

Posted by: frostanna | October 19, 2010 8:23 AM | Report abuse

Yes I think there will be at least 40,000 for the Wake game on homecoming. By the way, I was just looking through some old numbers and it turns out that back in 2001, our homecoming game only drew about 35,000 fans. This is significant because all we've heard about our attendance of late is the theory that people aren't going because of their dissatisfaction with the program.

Well, in 2001 we were 7-0 during homecoming weekend...we were coming off a huge, signature, nationally televised, improbable comeback win in overtime at ranked Georgia Tech. We were not only in the ACC title hunt, we were in the BCS title hunt as we were one of only a few teams in the nation still unbeaten at that point in the season.

Somebody please tell me why more people go to the games now after a 2-10 season than they did then when we were in the midst of an Orange Bowl season? Maybe, just maybe, it's because Ralph Friedgen has completely changed the culture of the Maryland football program. We used to expect losing all the time. Now we are furious when we lose. Most Terps alumni used to not care about Maryland football. Now we all care. That is thanks to Friedgen's success over the years.

"The haters just need to be a little more patient. When a young team is 4-2 and .500 in their conference, there is no need to blast the head coach. If we miss a bowl game this year--something I highly doubt--then feel free to criticize all you want. But if we make it to 7, 8 wins--this should be considered an achievement given our youth and inexperience at QB."

Posted by: Barno1 | October 18, 2010 1:44 PM

This is typical Barno blather. People who take issue with the program are "haters" and these haters never go to games and don't care about the program. They aren't real fans.

But isn't it interesting to see the Fridge use the "mediocre" comment in a context that just doesn't understand the word... JUST LIKE BARNO. Barno thinks making a bowl game is the goal. He thinks making the NCAA tournament in BB is the goal. He (and the University) just don't get it. REAL fans want us to be better than that. We have higher standards. We show our frustration with the year in and year out mediocre-at-best results. The football program is in a bad place and is not going to rise up without a coaching change and a commitment to winning. The BB program hasn't made a Sweet 16 since 2003, eight seasons ago! We are MEDIOCRE AT BEST. Drink up Barno and friends.

I am a big supporter of the Fridge. He has done a very good and consistent job and he does it at a place that has a real disadvantage in football, mostly because prep football is just not that great in the heart of the maryland recruiting area and we will never compete nationally for the best players.

That's unlike basketball where Gary simply has no excuses.

Friedgen did change the football culture at Maryland. No doubt. The problem is that we're now facing a potential backslide to the bad old Duffner days. The Fridge has performed admirably over the years, but it's time to go. It's a testament to his success that we can even talk about big-time coaches like Mike Leach or Mark Richt being his successor with a straight face.

Havent been on here in a while and I'm glad to see everything as silly as it ever way. At 4-2, I'm col with football right now. Need to run the table on these bum ACC teams like Duke,BC and Wake. I dont care if theyre supposed to be good, RF needs to win. Period.

But ultimately, I just cant wait for hoops. I think thinned down muscle bound Jordan Williams is a force and we win 10 games in conference. Solid 6 seed. Tough out of conference schedule will help in the throes of ACC land.

Posted by: jpfterps | October 19, 2010 2:47 PM | Report abuse

Sorry JP, I have to strongly disagree.

BB will be at least a 3 seed with the team winning 12+ in the ACC. Rebounding. Rebounding. And Rebounding.

And I can hardly wait.

And shotblocking.

Posted by: HughGRection | October 19, 2010 2:52 PM | Report abuse

jpfterps comments represent a rational response to the state of the program. "I'm cool with 4-2 just need to keep winning" is what we all should be feeling. You simply don't bash your team and demand a new coach when you are 4-2 and .500 in your conference if you're a fan.

Now if we finish 4-8 or 5-7 I will not take issue with people wanting Friedgen gone. But I just don't see it happening. In my opinion we are more likely to be playing meaningful ACC games in November (meaning, still in contention for the ACC title) than we are to not win any more games.

We'll see who was right.

Posted by: Barno1 | October 19, 2010 2:54 PM | Report abuse

To be fair to all on the board - 6-6 (wins at WFU & BC) should be a given at this point but does not warrant a decent bowl (although based on conference bowl commitments we may move up from low-tier to mid-tier). Moreover 6-6 means that we had a losing record in a down year for our conference. 7-5 means we had to beat at least one more decent team and puts us at even in the conf. 8-4 two more. Its unlikely, but not impossible, that we do better than that. Eight wins is a successful season in my book and warrants A bowl, though perhaps not a premier bowl. 8-4 with a returning starting QB is about as good as could be hoped for given last season...and I would take it in a heartbeat, keep Fridge and ignore the goat behind curtain #2.

And BB starts soon. but not soon enough. With rebounding. and shotblocking. and aggressive team defense.

It's great to see that Barno saves everything I post... what a kick! Unlike Barno, I have the intellect to change my assessment as performance changes and time goes by. Rather than pointing out the obvious about Ralph's performance and bore everyone, I will simply point out that the football program ain't going anywhere. No koolaid in my bloodstream but I do have a heartbeat, Barno!

Posted by: petecard | October 19, 2010 9:26 PM | Report abuse

@caphill -- When did Leach become "big time?" The Tx Tech program is no bigger than MD, he never went to the Big 12 championship game AND I don't see anyone else courting him. He will work somewhere again, but it's not like there is a bidding war between Alabama and USC to get Mike Leach. Mark Richt has perennially underachieved at a school with all the ingredients for a consistent top 10 finishes. At least trade up if you're going to stab Fridge in the back.

Posted by: mcmelton | October 20, 2010 10:00 AM | Report abuse

@mcmelton -- a program that for the last decade has finished in the top 5 of the 2nd-best conference in the country is "no better" than UMd? And a coach who revolutionized the offensive game with mediocre talent isn't an upgrade? Leach is not working this year because his lawsuit against Tech is still out there. All you really need to do to figure out Leach's value is take a look at how Tech is faring this year with Tuberville coaching Leach's players.

As for Richt - I suppose getting to two BCS bowls (and winning one) during his tenure means nothing? Also, remember where Georgia was in the 90s - Ray Goff was coaching them to 5-6, 6-5 seasons. Richt brought that program back - oh, and he also brings in that Top 10 talent that he supposedly underachieves with.

I am no Fridge hater. He's done a lot for the status of UMd football. It's just time to ease him out. I'd love to hear your suggestions for his replacement. Bob Stoops? Nick Saban? Urban Meyer?
