Maryland players upset with scooter cartoon in student newspaper

A very quick update on a very busy Tuesday:

Several football players and Coach Ralph Friedgen are upset about a scooter-related cartoon in the student newspaper, The Diamondback. Here is a link to the cartoon.

Players said about half the team rides a scooter. While they understand that the accident was not DeSouza's fault, they pledge to be extra cautious while riding in the future. R.J. Dill said his father has told him it's time to wear a helmet.

Pete DeSouza, who broke both legs in Thursday’s scooter accident, is out of ICU today. Several players and Friedgen visited him Sunday.

De’Onte Arnett, a redshirt freshman defensive lineman, was granted his request to move to the offensive line after DeSouza’s injury.

With DeSouza in Intensive Care, the cartoon is in very poor taste, and not funny either.

Good to see that The Diamondhack hasn't changed a bit...

On a lighter note... Not that I could ever be a Lakers fan at all, it was nice to see the replay of Steve Blake hitting a game-winning three in his debut there.

Since when did Poopy_McPoop start drawing cartoons for the Diamondback?

The cartoon, all else aside is pretty unfunny. But the fact that the team and the coach and others are blasting the cartoonist is simply a sad commentary on our over-the-top PC culture. God thing she isn't wearing a burka.

My lord Petecard, you really are a simpleton. And you just outed yourself as someone who has no clue what political correctness is. Not surprising given your comical misuse of the "drink the Koolaide" reference.

Political correctness has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with teammates taking offense to a joke about their severely injured teammate.

Hilarious! This is just fatty trying to keep the Desouza sympathy going for another game...it worked against BC and he is hoping to carry it through to another game...behind closed doors, he couldnt give a rats butt about the cartoon...and if he did, hes wasting time before a big game against WF....notice how WF is talking up how "very good" UMD is....all just mind games leading up to Sat...anyone who takes this seriously is still wearing diapers
