Kevin Anderson to hold press conference at 3 p.m.

By Steve Yanda

Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson will hold a press conference Monday at 3 p.m. "to discuss the football program," according to a release issued by the athletic department.

Football Coach Ralph Friedgen has been asked to accept a buyout, though Friedgen has told players to expect him to coach in the Military Bowl on Dec. 29. It is unclear at this point whether Friedgen has agreed to a buyout. He had not done so as of Sunday night.

Stay tuned. More information to follow.

Hopefully in the presser Anderson will ask that Fargo1 cease his interest in UMD all together.

Maybe Kevin Plank of Under Armour should make the announcement. Do they even need UMD, or should Under Armour start its own university so it can have complete control of the team?

I guess the Mike Leach era begins today. How sad!

If you didn't realize this already, Maryland is now Oregon-east, a school that so tied in with its apparel provider that the apparel company pretty much runs the athletic department. They might as well just rename it Plank Stadium.

Welcome aboard, Captain Leach!

Oregon, who's playing for the national championship this year? God forbid we become anything like that.

Don't be surprised to hear Mike Locksley's name being thrown out as a backup plan as HC or joining ML on the coaching staff as part of the deal.

Eric:

Please give Mr. Anderson a message from this football and basketball season ticketholder: You are a classless individual and I definitely will not be renewing my tickets for next season. Thanks!

"REPOSTING" from my "Expecting Friedgen to Coach The Military Bowl" take:

TERPS,

Lets not dub Anderson "Lucifer" just because he's attempting to make the most out of the less-than-desirable circumstances, that he finds our Program in. All indications are that most (if not all) of the assistant coaches will follow Franklin to Vandy. If Anderson had kept his word and extended Coach Friedgen for one year - - - while Franklin (Offensive Coordinator) and Brown (Defensive Coordinator) and a hand full of other assistants leave the Program, our TERRAPINS would be in an untenable situation? How long would you be willing to give Coach Friedgen to find an entirely new staff, boost attendance, win 8+ games next year, and convince the SHADY ACC Leadership and Bowl Committees to accept us at a top-tier Bowl Game?

I haven't seen anyone upset with Franklin's decision to take the Vanderbilt HC position, in lieu of being named Coach Friedgen's Successor a year ago. So, it's okay for Franklin to back out on the TERRAPINS / the University / Anderson / me / and you. But Anderson must remain loyal to 50% of the original blueprint? Doesn't Franklin's departure mandate that Kevin Anderson immediately start looking for a long-term Head Coach? If you want that Head Coach to be Friedgen, I'm okay with that philosophy. But I'm also okay with Anderson looking at others. Our Program has only been .500-ish the past 5 years. I think we were .700+ the first 3 years of Friedgen's tenure. Coach Friedgen's been very good for our Program, but maybe it's time to take it to the next level with new blood?

Just my thoughts - - - what say you? I hope to see you all at the Military Bowl.

GO TERPS

Dumping one's season tickets now is akin to selling AAPL in 2008.

I can see why people might be mad at how things have gone down, but the situation is what it is:

1) Franklin will take some assistants who get promotions.
2) Fridge wants a contract extension past 2011.
3) Who knows how long the Fridge can coach at his weight/age?
4) It would be very hard to get assistant coaches without extending the Fridge. People want job security.
5) Without a long term staff, MD is not good enough of a football program to overcome that issue in recruiting.

I appreciate what the Fridge has done, but with the above list of issues and a need to move forward in the football program - as things before this year haven't been great, it took 8 plus years to have an above average QB at MD again...it is time to move on.

ECU better watch out, because Fridge is going to get a championship-level effort of his kids at the Military Bowl. I wouldn't be surprised if the Terps get to 70 in the game.

Wow Poopy McPoop/DixontheDog on the Terps Insider board throughout the night (posts at 10 pm, 2 am, 6 am, 10 am). Wow dude, you really weren't joking when you used to brag about using pcp and mushrooms. It's a one-man party in Mama McPoop's basement.

Anderson: Total scumbag. He should be fired if a) We don't land Leach b) DOB transfers. I have little faith in us landing Leach. Basically, cause our AD accidently stated that he will be firing the coach. Somebody at UMd has got to have this guy take some classes in Public Relations.
