Such a "milk toast" piece. One learns nothing from this. I blame the questioner, but I don't know the pre-arranged ground rules.

One comment was silly. I was at the Garden and it was anything but an intense, hostile environment. Nothing like Cameron will be.

Couldn't there at least have been a question about the three road games next week and how important is is for this team to get a quality win. I don't think we can call a Wake victory a quality win.

Petecard and Barno agree again...what is going on here? Yeah, I blame the questioner too. He is not exactly Tim Russert.

I think it's only a matter of time until Comcast replaces this guy with another WaPo employee. My first guess would be Jon Forsythe (host "Football Insider Live"). He seems to possess the instinctual follow up questions which the interviewer in this video lacks.

Right, nothing substantive. But I got a kick out of Gary's PC explanation for his gym-speak.

Posted by: MrScrotums | January 7, 2011 12:31 PM | Report abuse

I think it's the interviewer's voice which is most irritating. He's got a face for radio and a voice for newspaper.

Where were the "hard hitting questions" like:

Do you still enjoy coaching?

Would you be happy if you won Sunday?

Is Duke a good team?

Posted by: TerpfanMA | January 7, 2011 1:53 PM | Report abuse

or at least ask, "Who do you think the bigger kiss a$$ is...Wojo or Collins?

Does Nolan Smith have breath as ugly as his face?

I really detest him for some weird reason. Almost as much as Laettner.

Paid props to Coach K and the team, but dissed the Duke fans ("whatever they're called") which was nice. Approach is correct - prepare for the team, not the fans.

Not even a question on FT shooting. wtf?

Ivan Carter is not Nolan Smith ugly, but the voice is annoying. And I don't care where he is watching the game.

Also liked GW picking the Ravens....its so hard to be a Redskins fan.

Ranked in order of descending ugliness:
1) Coach K ( the head ratface himself): Will he ever forgo the black hair dye and let the gray assume their natural spot?
2) Nolan Smith : Hgr has spoken.
3) Shane Battier : What was up with all those grooves in his noggin?!
4) Garfield Smith : Oh wait...he was a former Terp!

3) Shane Battier : What was up with all those grooves in his noggin?!
If there were ever a case for a man to grow an afro, dreadlocks, or cornrows it was the skull of Shane Battier. I found it hard to dislike him because of that particular deformity...and there were other, more detestable Dukies to detest at the time (Boozer & Jay Williams).

I did like the flak the Comcast faithful gave him about the ridges and saw an interview once where he talked about it.

Who starts at PG for the Terps? TS or PH?

Hugh, where is all this aggressiveness coming from today? Don't get me wrong, I'm getting a kick out of the Nolan Smith comments and this "pulling them out of their a**. Just wondering what's gotten into you today.

Posted by: fushezzi | January 7, 2011 3:11 PM |

barno nailed it - its Duke week and I spend wayyy too much time with a Dukie. He has lamented all week that this would be a Terps win, which has only served to get under my skin more than usual.

When I was in school, the player I despised MOST in the ACC was that pest from GaTech - Mark Price. Not personnally, but he was such a d*mn pest (ga tech was loaded back then with John Salley...yeah but we still would beat them). Second was Olden Polynice, but we ALWAYS beat UVA back then. Price was good at everything - passing, defense, steals, general defensive get the idea. Very, very good player - but annoying to watch.

Nolan Smith is the Mark-Price-pest of this era - but with a NC to his credit. and he IS ugly. His saving grace was the moronic faces Scheyer made which took attention from the fact that very, very ugly people are still much better looking than Nolan Smith. He rally should consider wearing one of those plastic face shields that guys have to wear when they've had their nose broken but I'm not sure they make them with a nose covering big enough to cover that beak.

I never understood why folks had such an irrational hatred of JJ Redick. But I guess I have to admit having some towards Nolan Smith.

Gotta echo others who feel a few BBall posts (what with Duke coming up and all) are long overdue.

Personally I see us absolutely destroying Duke. I say we win by at least 100, easy. What? You think that's a little extreme? Well I got news for you. If you think UMD beating Duke by 100 is unachievable than you're nothing more than a "fakey-fan," a "bandwagoner," the absolute worse fan UMD could have. Jordan Williams is gonna post a quadruple-double. Isn't that right fan-of-fans?

Of course MD/Duke games remind me of some fun times that were had in the various "events" that occurred on campus leading up to the game. Lots of fun times at Cole too.

Oh and I just read this today over on The Bog, seems like SVP was talking directly to Fargo1, "Edsall might not have excited people initially, but I think he walks into a pretty good situation. I think he'll be good. And look, all these clowns on the chat room boards that are saying they're never gonna go to a game, what are you gonna do next fall? Not watch football? You're gonna support Maryland."

Gotta love how Fargo1 is just a walking contradiction. He brings up the fairweather fans, fakey-fans, the worst fans UMD can have, etc. yet again he was the one who threatened to boycott UMD. Tell us again Fargo1 about your proposed boycott and why you didn't have the stones to actually go through with it. Gotta laugh at him questioning when other fans were last at Byrd and/or Comcast, since you know, that's the barometer of fandom.

Oh wait, even Mr. Double-Standard hasn't even gone to all Terps games this year.......But since Fargo1 asked the last time I was in Comcast Center was yeah it was Dec. 22, 2010. Oh snap!

Hahahahaha, suck on that a-one time Fargo1. Oh, and got any new pets?

I posted this before but if you havent seen it, a great video for duke week

Posted by: TerpfanMA | January 7, 2011 4:59 PM | Report abuse

Hah! Dixonthedog, are you really this big of a moron? Please tell me your are joking. You honestly do not know what a fairweather fan is? Or are you just pretending to be this retarded?

There's no connection between all the diehard fans who threatened to boycott if Friedgen got fired (and there was a lot of us) and those who jump on and off a bandwagon depending on whether their teams is winning or losing. Barno seems to be in the first category (diehards who threatened to boycott), while you seem to be in the second category (fairweather fans who scream and cry for coaching changes and new players whenever their team isn't winning).

Posted by: this_guy | January 7, 2011 5:24 PM | Report abuse

this_guy, you hit the nail on the head. PoopyTheDog has misunderstood what a fairweather fan is for as long as I can remember.

Oh and PoopyTheDog, I'm sure your mom would be oh so proud if she ever discovered what her 30 year old son was up to in her basement?

I think it would go a little bit like this:

"Poopy Jr, I thought you said you were finally gonna try n make some friends on the internetweb, since you keep striking out in real life son ever since Poopy Sr walked out, but I went on your computer this mornin and discovered you were on a message board making fun of people's dead dogs! Poopy Junior, I am disappointed in you. I think it's time you finally moved out of your mama's basement and tried to meet some people in the real world."

Another really funny thread and I don't know where to begin. Guess I will set myself up for some abuse: I hate losing to Duke but I don't hate the program. Admit that you wish we had the success that coach K has had. But HughG's comment about the hair coloring was really great and sooooo true. I hate the players when they beat us, but I actually end up rooting for many of them. I liked Laetner except when he played us. I think Reddick has shown a real work ethic and commitment to start being a factor at Orlando. Funny comments about Battier, but who can't respect that guy's game. I only wish we had the talent that Duke gets... and never any NCAA issues. But I do HATE the students because they just don't deserve it. Okay blast me...

TS should definitely start over PH. We need an early spark.

Can't believe that Barno didn't bring the meatloaf into the discussion, but I am hoping to hear something about that in DTD's response.

And, Terpfan, I will look at the link you have posted twice.

When I picture DTD, I'm thinking it's probably something like this....

Okay TerpfanMA, I just watched the video and laughed my a** off. I am sending it to about 20+ frat bros and the chatter will start. A great way to start the weekend. Will be playing it just before tip-off Sunday. THANK YOU.

P.S. I still stand by my earlier comment.

Posted by: petecard | January 7, 2011 7:10 PM | Report abuse

Uh oh Pete, better not mention being in a fraternity around here. PoopyTheDog has always stood by his genius belief that fraternities are "buying friends." I'm gonna go way out on a limb and assume Poopy got beaten up quite a few times by frat guys.
May also explain why he says he hung out at Townhall and was always avoided Bentleys.

Poopy, were there actual females that you had to interact with at Townhall?

Posted by: Barno1 | January 7, 2011 8:22 PM | Report abuse

Barno, when I was in school the Hall was actually at least as good as the Vous. It was the only place you could get food. The Hall was a man's tavern and the Vous was a place to get laid. But we also got laid at the Hall... We even had the Varsity Grill, but that was basically for pot heads. In the really old days, 40's/50's the Grill was THE place and known as Zalesak's.

Amazing! Petecard, that was hands down your greatest post ever.

I will say this, Townhall lost my business forever when I walked in on my 21st bday and finally used my real id and they refused my license claiming that I wasn't 21 til midnight. Idiots. I've been a loyal College Park Liquors frequenter ever since. And, to a lesser extent, Number 1 Liquors.

What house were you in Pete? I was SAE

Posted by: TerpfanMA | January 8, 2011 2:24 AM | Report abuse

I was a Delta Sig. Had some good pals in SAE. We beat them one year in the IFC softball championship. Jim Sakers was a good friend as IFC Cooridnator for the University while I was IFC President.

ahhh yes...Scoop is still there...who did you know at SAE?

Posted by: TerpfanMA | January 8, 2011 10:11 AM | Report abuse

"Scoop"... didn't know that nick name. Actually Terpfan, I have forgotten the names of the SAE guys I knew. Guess they weren't really good buds, but I do remember it was a good house. Here's something: I was in school when CSNY came out with "Our House." There is a line, "Our House is a very very very fine house, with two cats in the yard, life use to be so hard"... It always made me think of the SAE house on the row with the two lions outside on either side. Crazy some of the things one remembers!

Here is the link on Pomeroy that gives the explanation. You can also get there by look at the ratings page and clicking on "Help" next to the word "Data" just above the years

Bottom line: this guy is a statistical egghead who speaks a language that most of us don't understand.
