Former Terp Madieu Williams wins NFL's Walter Payton Award

By David Larimer

Madieu Williams, a two-year starter for the Maryland football team who now plays safety for the Minnesota Vikings, was awarded the NFL's Walter Payton Award before kickoff of Super Bowl XLV on Sunday.

The award is given annually for volunteer and charity work as well as excellence on the field. Williams has given back to his alma mater as well -- in 2009, he provided a $2 million endowment to the university.
