Morning links: Maryland travels to Virginia Tech for crucial contest

By Matt Bonesteel

Good morning.

Maryland faces Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., tonight. Most everyone thinks Maryland needs a strong run the rest of the way to secure an at-large berth. Coach Gary Williams would like to remind everyone that the ACC tournament is still there for the taking.

Everyone's favorite Hokie -- Malcolm Delaney -- is working on his NBA resume while trying to lead Virginia Tech into the NCAA tournament for the first time in his career.

The Terrapins are sixth in the all-important Atlantic 11 poll. The Hokies are third.

Jeff Barker of the Baltimore Sun looks at Maryland's uphill battle to the NCAA tournament.

Jordan Williams isn't the only ACC player with a bunch of double-doubles. The Hokies' Jeff Allen has a bunch, too.

The Sun reports that Shannon has declined the DC job at Maryland because of contract issues with Miami related to his buy out...

WaPo has nothing....

Big surprise...That'a why the Post and Sun decided to "share" resources, yet the Post is always a day late and a dollar short with most of their breaking news involving the Terps. There's no one here that can touch Barker in terms of Terps coverage, and I just don't understand why the Post, supposedly the local paper for Maryland athletics (heck, they used to have a press facility less than a mile away from campus) cannot provide more in depth COVERAGE (read NOT speculation and opinion) about the Terps. It's pretty sad when a group of 3 sportswriters (Clark, Bonesteel, and Yanda) cannot outwork 1. Sure, that 1 is not the greatest writer, but he actually delivers news and stories worth reading.
