Morning links: Yahoo grades Maryland hiring of Randy Edsall

By Matt Bonesteel

Matt Hinton of Yahoo's Dr. Saturday blog, in a post headlined "Meet the New Boss: Grading the Retread Coaching Hires," gives Maryland a B for hiring Randy Edsall. Writes Hinton, echoing much that has been written already about Edsall:

"Edsall's not exciting; fans aren't going to start flocking in droves for 8-4 runs to the Champs Sports Bowl. But if he gives Maryland the decade Friedgen did – that is, six eight-win seasons, seven bowl games and rare conference championship – this is a good hire."

On to North Carolina State, Sunday's opponent for the Terrapins. Freshmen Ryan Harrow, Lorenzo Brown and C.J. Leslie all started for just the second time this season in Sunday's big win over Wake Forest, and they'll start again tonight against Clemson, reports the Raleigh News & Observer.

In ACC basketball action last night, Virginia had "just one of those nights" in a 56-41 home loss to Duke. Lots of "those nights" for the Cavs this season.

Georgia Tech snapped a five-game losing streak with a 62-53 win over Chattanooga.

So if Edsall isn't going to bring "excitement" to the program and come up with the same record as Fridge, why did we fire Ralph in the first place???

@Capsnut, My honest guess is because Fridge was older and way fatter. People used it against him, and I am pretty sure there are plenty of polls out there to prove fat people are discriminated against in all facets of life.

Barno, help a guy out with a poll.

jpfterps, you're becoming what Poopy used to be on the blogs. The Barno antagonist. Is this your goal? We both know you don't believe most of the lame comments you've been posting lately.

While I'm not pleased about the way the transition happened, and I will keep my opinion to myself about whether I thought it should have happened in the first place, it is without doubt in every Terp fan's best interest to get behind Edsall, encourage the team and be positive on blogs. The guy hasn't coached a single snap yet and it's unfair to him and to the team to pass judgment on him because of the manner in which (or the pretenses under which) his predecessor was let go.

I'll be a Fridge fan forever, but I'm a Terps fan first.

we just went from a solid DC, to a potentially better DC, to an unknown quantity never-been-a-DC. I hope it works out - I'll be cheering as loud as ever...but please work out!!!
