NCAA basketball: Maryland defeats N.C. State at ACC tournament

By Matt Bonesteel

It wasn't the prettiest game ever -- Maryland committed 17 turnovers and North Carolina State at times seemed ready to call it a season -- but the Terrapins advanced to the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament with a 75-67 win over North Carolina State.

Next up: Duke. The Blue Devils defeated Maryland twice this season, a 71-64 win on Jan. 9 in Durham, N.C., and an 80-62 victory on Feb. 2 at Comcast Center.

Hey PUKE... we're coming for you tomorrow night. You pompous, arrogant, elitist-wannabe, Bobby Hurley-worshiping, Shane Battier-jersey-wearing JJ Redick-man-crushing geeks. To me it would make the season just to win this game.

Go Terps. Beat Duke.

Typical loser Garylover, sounds like a skins fan being ok with losing all year but as long as we beat Dallas, its a good year.

Way to set high expectations for your team and in life BARNO!

Loser!

BMore Sun Talk Forum and MDHigh.com report that OL Mike Madaras (Good Counsel) committed to the Terps earlier this afternoon.

cm88, why not just do the world a favor and kill yourself already? You're a waste of life. Just look at your 600 comments every single day on this blog. You must a really productive member of society spending all your time on a blog trying to get Gary Williams fired. This guy here is praying to God you get killed in a car accident sometime soon, so there's one less worthless piece of sh*t around.

Barno-

Your post is the reason why we don't make the tournament and have crappy attendance and support. Winning that game is great but won't get us in the tournament so it means nothing unless we continue to win. It's time to start going after National Championships and not just one opponent. It's about a season, not a game.

DiehardTerp - At this point, it's about a game.

Go Terps, Beat Duke!

DiehardTerp hits the nail on the head. It's called accepting, even reveling in mediocrity. But KA has set the bar at greatness and I think things will have to change. Change we can believe in... Anyone watching that game last night saw a pitiful games by two teams that shouldn't sniff the NCAA Tournament. It was hard to watch. Winning is nice, but in this case very deceiving.

Barno actually liked the totally lame defense-of-Gary blather that Elmore and Patrick put forth. It was sickening. Reminded me of the type of commentary that comes from MSNBC and the NY Times. You know, as long as they are one of us the facts don't matter. We will simply drown you in our bull s***. But Barno liked it... :)

Duke is gonna get destroyed tonight by our Terps. We'll win by at least 20 points. Gary's got our boys rollin'. Shoot even Tucker and Mosely couldn't bring us down last night.

I got the faith, hallelujah. I'm in my pew in the first row at the Church Of Gary. Hallelujah. Praise Gary.

Cm88, feel free to report the poster, "this_guy" and get him banned for his distasteful comments.

Oh and section652485244, go fcuk yourself. If Barno and I wanna talk 'Skins we most certainly will, despite what you and your commi/talk-only-about-what-I-want-you-to-talk-about style of thinking want us to do. This is still the good ol' US of A buddy. Go back to rooting for your AAAA-Natinals.

I'm sorry some of you - I won't name names, you know who you are - need to use a blog and a faceless screen name to spew venom and be rude to people you've probably never even met. Sad. Onto the positive...

Terps are young; petecard, your sarcastic post about tinkering w/the lineup in March- you DO realize that there are 5 first yr guys on this team, and that Gary is correctly trying to get ready for next season, right? I'll pause for a second so you can rip that last question and Gary generally..............

OK, hope you got it out of your system (but I know you have plenty of Gary disdain left!). I applaud the start for Palsson yesterday, that kid can string it, looks fundamentally sound, and is pretty strong for a freshman. I'd say it's safe to say we have the best freshman Icelander in the nation. Get the young guys more experience, this team will be well served for it next year, especially if we can make a deep run. We can play with Duke, they are not peaking by any means and I'd argue there's no pressure on us now -- after crapping the bed vs. Miami and UVA, nobody's even talking about us on the bubble. If JW plays stronger and Stoglin has more "Good Stoglin" than "Bad Stoglin" (he gives you a lot of both but I love him), we can win this game...oh and it'd be nice if our seniour guards actually showed up. GO TERPS!!!

I love how after a Terps win Poopy McPothead, petecard, and Part Time Fan (CM88) seem almost angry.

But there "real fans". You know, because they want our crappy HOF, National Championship winning coach gone. Whatever.

And Poopy, lighten up, there internet tough guy. The Skins comment to you and Barno was a joke. I guess you missed that somehow in the smokey haze that is your life or lack there of.

Poopy, I am not too worried about anyone telling me to shut up or kill myself, I actually enjoy getting under the skin of "fans" that can not open their eyes to the FACTS that our program is regressing. Ried's article was not a slam on Gary, he actually praised him for what he once did, but the truth is that Gary is now failing, not because of lack of cheating per Garys one of many excuses, but because Gary is lazy and cocky.

I love MD the program/team more than I love any coach or player, so I do come on here and get stupid, say angry things, etc., but its just because I am sick of watching what I think is the best program in the world, go downhill. Sorry you guys dont understand.

Go Terps! Lets beat Duke and sweep the ACCs', for the kids/players!

Good lord some people just aren't very smart. Because I said beating duke would make the season for me that is the reason our attendance sucks, that is the reason we are going to the NIT, that is the reason we have a loser mentality? Wow, just wow. Maybe what I meant, just maybe, was AT THIS POINT IN THE SEASON in a disappointing season beating duke would make the season for me. Maybe, just maybe, playing the roll of spoiler and beating our rival who is going for a number 1 seed would bring some satisfaction to an otherwise down season...Nah, couldn't be that. I must have meant I'm happy with going 1-30 on the season as long as we get to beat Duke.

CM88's lack of comprehension never ceases to amaze me. Were you dropped on your head repeatedly as a child?

And Peter the Hate, why are you even commenting on the game last night? You already admitted you weren't going to watch the terps unless we got to Saturday's semifinal...please don't talk about how pitiful our play was when you didn't even watch the game. And as far as calling our play pitiful, you just make it too obvious sometimes that you subconsciously root against us. I don't know any Terp fan who would attack the Terps like that in the middle of the ACC tourney after a nice win. I know you went to MD and are a "fan" but you seem to enjoy attacking the program way more than someone who is supposed to be rooting us on. I know, I know, your "some of us want more" explanation we've heard a million times before is what drives your attacks...as if any of us are happy with the NIT.

Pete, enjoy not watching tonight's game. We'll let you know what happens afterwards so you can get back to attacking our team, win or lose.

Where is Lefty when we really need him? I love MD BB, but gone are the days when we actually had a short a the best players in the country. McMillen, Elmore, King, Moses, all these guys were at top of the list. Bias was local. Dixon was luck. Williams is a great game day coach, but his recruiting is just enough to get 19 wins and maybe a top 25. I want a return to top 10, yearly and be in running each year.

Posted by: nfield | March 11, 2011 1:37 PM | Report abuse

I did watch the game Barno. You know every well when I don't see a game I say that and withhold commentary about the way it was played. I did say I wasn't going to watch, but, alas, I did. And it was ugly. The comment about you being the reason for our program's mediocrity was simply made as it has been made before with your blind support being and excuse for letting our performance fall to where it has fallen. Our record is unacceptable except to you and your excuse laden cohorts. It's just that simple. You guys are enablers.

Notorious,

To respond to your 5 new guys theory. Yes, there will be and is a learning curve obviously, but it's the lack of senior leadership that was not able to show the newbies how to get things done and how to win. I'm a supporter of Gary and he can not do it himself and he's still incorporating Bino Ransom to the staff. But senior leadership of last year is why Jordan Williams was able to have the year that he did last year and progress quickly. He still needs to work on a few things obviously but I would say he's ahead of the curve.
