On the anniversary of Thomas Edison's 164th birthday, our friends over at the Library of Congress bring you a photograph of Thomas, his wife, and children, that appeared in the New York Tribune August 25, 1907. Edison was 60.

There is a very strong belief that Thomas Alva Edison was born in a small town in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and his father, who used to trade with the USA, in the border, met Mr. Edison who wanted to adopt Thomas, who since very early childhood showed to be very intelligent.
Eventually, his mother agreed and he was given in adoption with the condition that he should keep his fathers last name: Alva.
The fact is that Alva is a last name, not a second name. You can find out a whole community of people with Alva as a last name in that city. (There is a lot more of this piece of history, on request).
