By Jane Elizabeth

Happy Friday, An army of volunteers are bringing you Lori's A.M. Buzz this morning while Lori takes a break. The Capital Weather Gang says to enjoy the mild weather today and Saturday, because Sunday is looking like a soaker.

We've got plenty of things for you to consider as you plan for the weekend, including a temporary shutdown of Metro's orange and blue lines. If you ride those lines, don't be late tonight: They're shutting down early to begin the weekend work. Worried you'll forget? Get this tune rattling around in your brain all day and you'll remember.

Coming up:

Nurses walk out. Nurses at Washington Hospital Center are walking off the job this morning in a dispute over wages, benefits, staffing and patient safety. While hundreds of nurses are expected to be off the job for a few days, hospital officials say they have flown in nurses from across the country to staff the hospital.

NFL walkout watch. Meanwhile, in another part of town, NFL officials are still negotiating with their players union to beat a 11:59 p.m. deadline tonight. We'll keep you posted all day.

Free stuff today. Planning to drop a pile of cash this weekend on restaurants, bars and entertainment? As always, our Going Out Guide can help you decide where to spend it. -- but did you know we also have our "free stuff" radar on all the time? This afternoon, Cafe Atlantico kicks off Carnivale with a free public event that includes samples of cane juice liquor and a look at samba.

And while her alleged attackers are set for trial today, D.C. police say they already know the probable location of her body. However, they told the teen's parents that retrieving her remains would be too expensive, relatives said. Post reporter Keith L. Alexander explains.

The missing. During Maryland's current debate over same-sex marriage, two legislators went missing as an important vote loomed. Post reporter Sandhya Somashekhar writes about this new tactic in legislatures across the country: When the heat turns up, the "empty chair" may be a way to gain leverage.

In brief. Metro bag searches could end up in court (Examiner); gas prices hit $4.55 at some stations in D.C. area (NBC4); Zachary Cuddeback, a Virginia man who was killed in Germany is mourned by his family and friends (
