A.M. Buzz: Japan quake and tsunami, gay marriage
Good morning. It's Friday and clear skies are in the forecast. In D.C., tensions at city hall turned what normally would have been a low-key committee hearing into a tense debate over Mayor Vincent Gray's hiring practices. We've also got another look at discipline policies in Fairfax County Public Schools. And today could be a historic day in Maryland's state capital.

A.M. Buzz: Rain, blue crabs, Easter Egg Roll
Good morning. It's Thursday. You will need an umbrella today and quite possibly an ark. Headlines today? While much attention in Maryland has focused on efforts to legalize same-sex marriage in the state, another issue is also stirring great emotion: the question of whether undocumented immigrants should received in-state tuition benefits at Maryland's public colleges?

Local brews, fashionable duds: D.C. blogs
Good afternoon. Batten down the hatches -- it sounds like the rain is on the way, and it's expected to last through much of Thursday, according to The Capital Weather Gang. Fortunately, the temperature is almost always just right in the D.C. area blogosphere, where we have a fabulous selection of posts for this Wednesday afternoon. Read on. The Natural Capital reports that the D.C. Environmental Film Festival kicks off next week and includes several films with D.C. area roots, including one about a one-acre parcel inside the Beltway that's cared for by 89-year-old Charlie Koiner. Fashionable and frugal. Bloomies and Target coming to Georgetown? So says a report from Georgetown Dish via the Georgetown Current. The celebrations are already starting. From ARLnow.com -- some shots from the Mardi Gras/St. Patrick's Day parade in Clarendon Tuesday night. Clarendon Nights also has a few snaps. Extraordinary Observations -- usually a fan...

A.M. Buzz: Rain, bike summit, gay marriage
Good morning. It's Wednesday. Be sure to grab an umbrella before you leave the house today. Plenty of headlines across the region. In D.C., two people with strong ties to Mayor Vincent Gray, campaign consultant Howard Brooks and Lorraine Green are in the news. In Virginia, Fairfax officials are looking at the impact of the recent legislative session on the county. And in Maryland, debate begins today in the House of Delegates on a bill to legalize same-sex marriage.

Sonny Bono remembered: D.C.'s blogs
Good afternoon. After a bit of a break, we're back with more great posts from the D.C. area blogosphere. Judging from the headlines, it's been a busy few days. To that end, Greater Greater Washington offers some thoughts on government reform in light of allegations that money and the promise of a job were offered by Gray campaign officials to Sulaimon Brown. Did you know there's a Sonny Bono Memorial Park in D.C.? Well, now you do. With recent scandals rocking D.C. government, Greater Greater Washington urges folks to pause before they consider taking action. It's easy to demand pay cuts and term limits, but folks need to think through the impact of such reforms. From Rants and Ramblings, some photo love for the National's Teddy. Did you know that there's a Sonny Bono Memorial Park, right here in D.C.? Thanks to the 42 blog, now you do. Liz at...

A.M. Buzz: Mardi Gras, UDC, gas prices
Good morning. It's a very newsy Tuesday. Pepco's new reliability plan may not be so reliable after all, according to a report by a team of independent consultants. On the D.C. government front: The D.C. Office of Campaign Finance has begun an probe of allegations of impropriety by members of Vincent Gray's campaign team involving a city job and political attacks on Adrian Fenty. And alas, traffic is worse in places like Los Angeles and New York, but we're still among the worst in the country when it comes to congestion, according to a new report. Coming up. The best day of the week? Looks like we'll be getting a rest between storms. The Capital Weather Gang says today should be nice -- perhaps the nicest we'll get this week. Temperatures will be in the low- to mid-50's with partly to mostly sunny skies. Looks like the next storm will...
