A new kind of soap opera
The Fort Worth Opera is getting everyone's attention. I gave it some love the other day on WQXR. People sometimes come up to me and ask if I'm following what they're doing (I am! I am!). And now, they may become the subject of a reality TV show. (It can only go better for them than "The House" went for Covent Garden in 1996.) I've always said opera would be an ideal subject for a Christopher Guest movie; this idea might even improve on that.

Darren Keith Woods is one of the hardest working people in opera. He's smart, genuine, a great colleague and mentor, and apparently an excellent general manager as well. A former singer himself, he's turned that company around. Bravo!

Catherine O'Hara as an aging America's Diva... Jennifer Coolidge as a Popera crossover star trying to go legit... Ed Begley Jnr as an Authentick Conductor trying to make Lully popular again... Eugene Levy as the first great Jewish Hispanic tenor... it practically writes itself.
