Salzburg's Easter festival clears egg from face
The Salzburg Easter Festival financial scandal I mentioned a few days ago has turned into a veritable opera plot: the corrupt director has vanished; the technical director who also pocketed funds threw himself off a bridge (but lived). See The Independent and Bloomberg for details. But the festival has acted quickly, and has just named a new director: Peter Alward, former head of EMI Classics (and most recently of The Cleveland Orchestra). Does this mean a change to Salzburg's long-standing ties to DG? The festival will settle for moving back out of the headlines.
