We attended the Sunday matinee performance of Porgy with a different set of principal singers. Would love to see a review of these.

Your review of Saturday night's performance was spot on. Eric Owens was a stand-out, but virtually everyone else seemed to be trying too hard, both vocally and certainly in the overly broad characterizations. Alas, nowhere near as satisfying as the original production 5 years ago.

FYI, there appears to be at least some evidence that "shaken baby syndrome" is not a real condition that opera parents (or opera audiences) need to worry about.
