I agree with the above, on the lack of innovation. The main piece the SFS is bringing with them is the Tchaikovsky violin concerto. The "exciting" Dude from L.A. is bringing the Tchaikovsky 6th symphony. It is programing like this that has kept my credit card in my wallet this season.

"the "radical" piece on the program is his own adaptation of Liszt's "Tasso, Lament and Triumph" (Anne Midgette, Washington Post, March 21, 2010)
I would like to know how Ms. Midgette, and the august Washington Post which she represents, know that Liszt's "Tasso, Lament and Triumph" in MTT's arrangement, is a more radical work than is the world premiere performances of the new work "Post-scriptum" by living classical Russian composer Victor Kissine, which is to be performed at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts and which was commissioned by the San Francisco Symphony and is dedicated to MTT and the SFS?
Did Ms. Midgette attend the world premiere of the Victor Kissine in San Francisco or hear the work elsewhere on tour?
And didn't we just here some pre and post revolutionary Russian classical music here at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts? (I believe that Ms. Midgette also recently heard some additional post-revolutionary Soviet music in her New York City primary -- U.S. Census -- home.)

@Grillades, are you familiar with the Bernstein Symphony No. 2 "Age of Anxiety" that is half the LA program? I'm not on pins and needles to see the "Dude" and Tchaikovsky 6 but I'm really curious to see what he does with Bernstein.

A bit, yes. And hearing that piece would be attractive to me, unlike the Tchaikovsky. Next month the Dudamel is combining the Bernstein with pieces by Carlos Chavez and Peter Lieberson. That has the potential to be an interesting evening of music making simply because the program is off the beaten track. That concert is sold out

Oh, Anne. That innovative American Mavericks festival was many years ago. There's not much innovative on the upcoming season and not much sense that MTT is that interested in innovation at SFS these days.
