A word for J.S. Bach. I don't think that "magnificent" is the right term for the B minor Mass. That's a word that one might use to remind people that a work is really better than one thinks it might be -- you might say that, for example, the Rhenish symphony of Schumann (his Symphony No. 3) is magnificent, as indeed it is. But calling the B Minor Mass "magnificent" is demeaning. It is one of the great creations of humankind.

I will not read the WAPO classical music reviews until the inefficient,negative present reviewer is fired.I and many of my colleagues miss so much Mr Tim Page,he was an excellent reviewer and a fine person, and a paper as prestigious as the WAPO should get a classical music critic as the New York Times has,Ms Midgette was replaced in the Times by the excellent Vivien Schweitzer and reading her is a pleasure.
