UPDATE: Rain delay
UPDATE, July 27: Strathmore's power did not, in fact, return on Monday night. The "Traviata" has, accordingly, been moved to Sunday, August 1, at 4 p.m. The change in scheduling has meant a new tenor: Michael Fabiano, a veritable rising star (who, as one of the winners of the Met Auditions in 2007, was featured in the film The Audition), will replace Mr. Zhang.
-----
As if Washington hadn't had its share of bad weather already this year, Sunday's storm knocked out power to Strathmore, and thus forced the postponement of a sold-out performance of "La traviata" presented by Opera International, a program run by the Organization of Chinese American Woman. The cast includes Jessica Stecklein, a local soprano, as Violetta and Yingxi Zhang, a former Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist who has done well in small roles at the Washington National Opera, as Alfredo.
The performance will be held Monday night, July 26th at 8 pm -- assuming that power is restored by then.
In the meantime, here's young Zhang appearing with Domingo at a past WNO young artist concert in China:
