Poll: the role of the orchestra musician
There's been plenty of discussion on this blog in the past about new models for orchestras. Yesterday, the Detroit Free Press ran a piece about the ways that the Detroit Symphony Orchestra is proposing to modify the formal definition of their musicians' jobs. I've stated some of my thoughts here; what are your thoughts on these kinds of contract modifications?

I voted 'yes' but adding the caveat that not every musician in the orchestra should be involved in outreach. They may be a superb musician, but not every musician automatically comes equipped with the patience, personality, humour and interest that are essential for the best kinds of outreach.
