While perhaps a bit caustic, I think you were pretty much right on target about the Graves performance the other night.
I swung for 3 tickets, mostly for the Bumbry/White House commemorative aspect of the evening more so than to go to a Graves recital.
I was particularly surprised that Graves didn't say anything about Grace Bumbry, who she must have idolized while a student and a young artist.
Graves voice is still quite lush and beautiful but I'm guessing that she bowing out of the frenetic life of a world class opera singer for her own personal, and perhaps good reasons--motherhood, marriage and family.
