April 29 Preview: Rice and 2008 Candidates
Some big names are on the Sunday shows this weekend as they tackle an imminent veto of an Iraq war spending bill that contains a timetable for withdrawal, U.S. diplomacy and the 2008 presidential race.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice appears on ABC's "This Week," CBS's "Face the Nation" and CNN's "Late Edition."
Expect Rice to be asked about a supplemental funding bill for the Iraq war that passed Congress this week that could begin troop withdrawals within 60 days -- a bill President Bush has vowed to veto. She'll also be asked more broadly about the state of Iraq, as well as subpoenas issued by the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight for testimony about the buildup to the start of the Iraq war. And she is sure to be asked about former CIA director George Tenet's assertions in a new book that the Bush administration
focused on attacking Iraq long before 9/11.
Also on ABC: Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), a 2008 presidential hopeful, Sen. Russell Feingold (D-Wisc.) and actress Natalie Portman.
Also on CBS: Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), who has helped oversee the House effort to pass the Iraq spending bill.
Also on CNN: Rep. Adam Putnam (R-Fl.), the third-ranking Republican in the House, Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari and European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso.
"Fox News Sunday" and NBC's "Meet the Press" both spend time with 2008 candidates.
Fox has Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his wife Cindy, while NBC has Sen. Joseph R. Biden (D-Del.).

Hey, I got a kick out of the Republican Frontrunner Debate on television where they all stood up, and answered questions about what they believed in such as, "Do you believe in evolution ?' That Brownback guy got all warm and runny, and dug his spurs in to get the votes of the 20% of the republicans who think Jesus is coming back SOON with a rocket launcher and a lot of wrath(...to a reality near you !). Yeah, baby ! That fellow has done more with answering that one question to prove the thesis that we are in decline as a culture than all the Ann Coulters and Fox News Channel 'analysts' put together end to end from Bayonne, New Jersey to Hayward, California ! What a 'debate' !.., no coherent foreign policy, no idea as to how to get out of Iraq, no policy for engaging Russia economically, no idea as to how to create Fair Trade with China instead of exporting billions to them through the an astronomical trade deficit, no idea as to how to work in Afghanistan to 'win the hearts and minds' of the first victims of terrorism, no plan for ANYTHING except to make permanent Tax Breaks for those poor rich people of ours . Man! That 'debate' was more like the outtakes of some weird video where the actors just couldn't get into character no matter what script they read from . Still, it WAS all rather laughable ...in a tragic sort of way.

Also of interest is the current story in The Guardian: Fascist America, in 10 easy steps: From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues this American writer, George Bush and his thugs seem to be taking them all.
Having been burglarized and worse over 200 times by these thugs, I can assure you that the urgency to stop this mafia is real.
