NCAA tournament 2011: 28 teams are locks for at-large bids

By Eric Prisbell

To review, the NCAA tournament selection committee hands out 37 at-large bids. As of Friday morning, I have 28 teams that are locks to receive those bids. That leaves nine open slots. The number of open slots can change when teams earn significant victories today or when there is an unexpected upset in a conference tourney that takes away an at-large berth.

These are the 17 teams contending for the nine open slots:

Richmond
Michigan
Michigan State
Boston College
Clemson
Virginia Tech
St Mary's
Colorado
Georgia
Southern California
Penn State
Memphis
UAB
UTEP
VCU
Alabama
New Mexico
