Daily Fix Poll: President Obama on "The View"

President Barack Obama's appearance on "The View" today drew all sorts of reaction.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) compared the daily chat show -- featuring Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar and Sherri Shephard -- to "The Jerry Springer Show", adding: "I think the president of the United States has to go on serious shows."

CBS News anchor Katie Couric took the opposite view; "Daytime television viewers may be exactly who President Obama needs to reach," she said.

With opinion so divided over whether Obama should have appeared and why he did, it seemed like the perfect topic for our Daily Fix Poll. Vote below!

(Yesterday's Daily Fix Poll winner? Forty four percent of you think five or six women will win governors races this fall.)

What I love most about the Obama bashers on this blog and elsewhere is that they actually think the GOP will do something for them if they regain power. The GOP is for the richest 1-2% of Americans. If you're not in that group you will go down the drain like everyone else in the disappearing middle class. But I digress - for most of you imbeciles, just being able to rub shoulders with other GOP and Tea Party racists is reward enough.

It is absolutely delightful to see our President surrounded by intelligent, assertive women, earnestly answering questions and being his usual charming self. We need to be reminded that we elected a warm intelligent human to lead our country and appearances like this serve to remind us that, unlike the last one, this President wants to be engaged with all of us.

The men might see this as stupid, but I'm sure he scored heavily with the women. What a smart guy!

A little over half of the voters in this country are women. Male politicians always seem to forget that. Obama handled that just right. He was charming, personable and willing to answer difficult questions. He needs access to the public in informal setting like this just as FDR gave informal and more personable public conversations in his fireside chats. No one enjoys press conferences but people look forward to these informal situations. It was good that he listed all that they have accomplished in the short time he's been in office. It was a long list for any President and he did it in SPITE of the party of no blocking everything---even things they had supported. Now they've blocked help for small businesses. The Republican party has one desire only----power. And big money. I thought it was great that the President came to talk to the women of America today. Bravo! p.s. I looked it up. His polling numbers are higher at this point than either Reagan or Clinton.

Now that I've actually watched the episode, I can say they had some interesting discussions about race and the economy, way better than the soundbite-driven cable shows have had in the past forever.

As if this administration isn't enough of a f'n circus...now we see the Idiot in Chief hawking his know-nothing mentality and striving hard for his sex appeal to somehow sway the masses...a disgusting, revolting turn of events.

Obama went on the View because he knew they would gush over him just like they did the last time, when he was a candidate. Also, by going on that, it gave him an excuse not to make an appearance at the Boy Scouts of America jamboree, which is a Bible-based Christian organization so he would offended a large part of his secular base.

Posted by: Georgetowner1

That last sentence is wrong because there are many organizations would love to have the President show up however due to timing and other issues, there are choices to decide which event to go to. Every President goes through this all the time.

Actually, this is incorrect...he blew off the Boys Scout Jamboree for a FUND Raiser..says alot about the mans character.

The ultimate Politican/Perm Campaigner..I am sad I voted for him. What a classless joke..and he knows how to do is print money and spew rhetoric.

Is The View any worse than the gossipy shows on cable nets? Or The McLaughlin Group, for that matter (is that show still on? it used to be my Sunday-morning hangover show of choice, back when I still had Sunday-morning hangovers).

WITH MILLIONS OF AMERICANS OUT OF WORK ALL THIS PHONY HAS TO DO IS GO ON TELEVISION SHOWS. IT WOULD BENEFIT THE COUNTRY IF HE GAVE UP HIS OFFICE AND BECAME A FULL TIME TV PERSONALITY. THEN HE COULD COMPETE WITH BECK, HANNITY AND THE OTHERS. IN A FEW MONTHS HIS RATINGS WOULD BE LOWER THAN THEY ARE FOR HIM AS PRESIDENT AND HE WOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE AIR. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BLAME THIS ON GEORGE BUSH. PERHAPS HE COULD EVEN GET A SHOW CALLED "OBUMA AND HIS MERRRY MEN" SOME THING LIKE ROBIN HOOD. EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT THE MERRY MEN WOULD PROBABLY TAKE ALL OF THE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES AS THEY ARE USED TO DOING. SPEAKING OF HUBRIS, OBUMA TAKES PRIDE IN THE FACT THAT UNEMPLOYMENT IS NOT RISING. THE TRUTH IS THAT PEOPLE ARE NO LONGER EVEN LOOKING FOR JOBS BECAUSE THIS GUY HAS NO CLUE AS TO HOW TO JUMPSTART THE ECONOMY. AS THEY SAY "THE TRUTH IS IN THE PUDDING."

frustrated housewife, "THEN LET YOU BE MINE!"

stud muffin o'bama, "sorry, i belong to michelle. she is my chosen one."

frustrated housewife, "THEN I WILL KILL MYSELF! LIFE WITHOUT YOU BARRY, WOULD BE UNBEARABLE!"

stud muffin o'bama, "that's your call, toots.. now i must catch my flight.. i must be in casa blanca in one hour... here's looking at you.. sweetheart!"

frustrated housewife, *sigh* "he's such a nice guy."

As I have been posting all along, we are entering a vicious DEPRESSION. Now, even the Fed tactically admits it. They are "preparing to fight a round of deflation". Now, the only times this country has experienced these sorts of "deflationary cycles" has been when we were in calamitous depression like the Great Depression, the Panic" (an old fashioned term for depression) at of 1893. We are now, officially well and truly swimming in the cesspool of the free trade madness that has gripped Washington and New York since the Clinton Administration. I don't think this Administration will use the appropriate means (high tariffs) to correct this, either. And I pretty much see the Republican's going for a Gingrich or Romney, free traders in the mold of Clinton-Bush-Obama, so get ready, take up a front row seat, your country is going to literally be ripped apart before your eyes, cease to exist, and millions of people will die. Enjoy your family while you can.

i don't think o'bama should quit the tv show tour with 'the view'.

he should appear on 'the price is right' and spin the big wheel... being a chump just like he is.. "ohhhh.. sorry o'bama.. with your second spin, you only have 10 cents... no showcase for you..." and then the audience would go, "boooooo! boooooo!"

and then next, o'bama can go on 'the family feud' where he has to guess the audiences top answers...

richard dawson would say, "show me things the president is.. things the president is... "

o'bama; "how about.. a loser? i'm a loser?"

audience; clap! clap! clap! clap!

richard dawson; "is it on our board? is o'bama a loser? YES! 18 people think that o'bama is a loser!"

"okay o'bama.. do you want to keep playing? or pass this over to the bidens..."

o'bama, "i'll pass it over to the biden's, richard."

biden says, "okay richard. let's see.. show me.... o'bama is a dork! show me o'bama is a dork..."

richard dawson says, "is o'bama a dork on the board?"

BZZZZZT!

sorry biden.. nobody in the audience thinks o'bama is a dork..."

the audience goes, "boooooo! booooooo!"

biden; "how about... o'bama is a narcissistic fool!"

audience; "clap! clap! clap! clap!"

richard, "show me.... NARCISSISTIC FOOL!"

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!

richard dawson, "YES, NARCISSISTIC FOOL WAS OUR TOP ANSWER! 107 people in our audience thinks that o'bama is a narcissistic fool! BIDEN WINS! BIDEN WINS!"

biden; "yea!"

o'bama; "damnit."

and then of course o'bama can go on the home shopping club...

"hello. today with have with us our president, barack o'bama, and he has brought with him a selection of o'bama bobble heads he is selling on the side. if we can get a closeup... yes, that's good."

o'bama; "thank you. yes, this particular bobble head is my favorite. it shows me at a baseball game eating a hot dog. look how the little heads bobs up and down."

"that's very nice mister president."

o'bama; "and this other bobble head of me? it shows me in my save the immigrants mode. i'm wearing a little sombrero and pancho. this look really good when you put them in the back window of your car."

"that's also very nice. well, i'm sorry, but that's all the time we have. let's have a nice round of applause for our president."

clap! clap! clap! clap!
clap! clap! clap! clap!

I admire President Obama for appearing on The View. He needs to speak to the people of this country who are less likely to understand the problems that we as a nation face. I also don't know who Snooki is. However, I am not worried about it. I think President Obama should do more of this type of television program so that people can become better acquainted with him.

ONE has to question the honesty of the immigration groups - what these groups want is to STOP all enforcement of federal immigration laws - and get amnesty.

It is time that the country is honest about what these groups really want.

"Comprehensive Immigration Reform" does NOT mean that - it mean THEY WANT AMENSTY FOR EVERY ILLEGAL ALIEN.

I really can not believe these groups - trying to LECTURE Americans on the 4th Amendment and the division of Federal and State powers - WHEN IN FACT THEIR REAL OBJECTIVE IS TO EVADE FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAWS.

These people are AIDING AND ABETTING people who are breaking FEDERAL laws.

They are NOT upholding the Constitution - they are ORGANIZING TO HELP PEOPLE BREAK FEDERAL LAWS.

This has become a joke - these are CRIMINAL ENTERPRISES

The idea that these CRIMINALS are hiding behind our Constitution is unbelievable - it is OFFENSIVE.

forgetthis at 3:14

You might have a good point there - perhaps Obama scheduled the View solely to keep up with the Clintons - who have been getting tons of publicity surrounding the wedding of Chelsea.

Hmmm - interesting take -

Also, Obama is treading on HILLARY'S demographic - perhaps Obama is concerned about a potential challenge from Hillary and might have wanted to boost his standing with women.

This MAY not be about the fall election at all - but about Hillary.

Stay tuned.....

.

Posted by: YouCanPostThis | July 29, 2010 3:30 PM | Report abuse

I have to recant an earlier criticism. Even though Obama may have mentioned this at another time as well, he was actually pushed into admitting that he was not invited to Chelsea's wedding. But it was also clear that Bill and Hillary did not discuss with him the fact that they were leaving him off of the guest list. I think this may have been reason alone to avoid "The View." Otherwise, it would have been a good idea, but he was put in a situation of having to talk about something that may not have been appropriate to discuss in public.

Posted by: forgetthis | July 29, 2010 3:14 PM | Report abuse

The question should not center on whether Obama should appeal to the demographic - or how it went.

There are deeper, more important issues here.

Should the President be aware of WHO Snooki is ? Obama said on the View that he didn't know who Snooki was.

Obama is completely out of touch with the country - and the downfall of the society - if Obama doesn't know who Snooki is.

How can anyone expect Obama to save America from anything - if Obama doesn't know the biggest threat to our society since 9/11- Snooki.

Also - Obama appeared to know nothing about the Mel Gibson tapes - now shouldn't the President know about those tapes ? And have at least heard a few seconds of the Mel Gibson tapes ??

Again, this shows Obama as he really is - completely out of touch with America - and the issues Americans are discussing.

Obama wanted to lecture the women on this country on the Afghan War - and what they really wanted to hear was his opinion on Snooki and the Mel Gibson tapes -

HOW out of touch can Obama be ?

He needs to be on these types of shows more. I watched the full hour (:53 min.) and instead of the light weight banter typical of morning TV, there were real issues being discussed and questions raised.
If anything is "inappropriate" it's the right-wing millionaire owners who have a virtual monopoly on the AM radio band and cable TV and put on Beck and Limbaugh to toe their neo-fascist Tea Party fraud line 24X7. To offset this, at the very least, Obama needs his own show, maybe he can bring them on as guests.
