Daily Fix Poll: What will be the top campaign to watch in 2011?
By Felicia Sonmez
The 2010 campaign cycle is coming to a close, but we at the The Fix already have our eye on the next election -- and there will be plenty of campaigns to watch in 2011.
Three states will be holding gubernatorial contests. In Mississippi, candidates will be vying in an open-seat race to succeed term-limited Gov. Haley Barbour (R). In Kentucky, incumbent Gov. Steve Beshear (D) is running for a second term. And in Louisiana, Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) is running for re-election as well; his performance at the polls could have big implications for his national ambitions going forward. (2016 anyone?)
There's a lot of action in mayoral races, too. The Chicago mayoral race has garnered the most national attention thus far due to former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's (D) presence in the race. But San Francisco will also be holding a hotly contested race to succeed term-limited mayor (and lieutenant gubernatorial hopeful) Gavin Newsom (D); Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Phoenix are among the other cities holding mayoral races.
Which race will be the top one to watch in 2011? Weigh in below!
