Democrats Choose Hoyer as Majority Leader
In a Democratic caucus vote, Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland defeated Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania in the race for majority leader in the U.S. House. Hoyer won decisively, 149 to 86.
Earlier in the day, Democrats unanimously chose Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California to serve as House Speaker. Pelosi will officially take over the position in January.
