Al Gore (Again)?

Former vice president Al Gore is back in the news as he contemplates another run for the presidency.

Former VP Al Gore: Should he? (File Photo)

First, "Washington Whispers" -- a political gossip column in U.S.News & World Report -- reported earlier this week that Gore allies were counseling him to jump into the race soon while Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) is preoccupied with her 2006 reelection.  "It's Gore Time," said one source in the "WW" piece.

Perhaps these friends-of-Gore need to lobby their man a bit more. In a speech in Sweden earlier today, Gore said: "I have absolutely no plans and no expectations of ever being a candidate again."  Always the tease, he added: "I don't completely rule out some future interest, but I don't expect to have that."

One former Gore advisor said today: "I am told he is not running" for president in 2008.

Should he?  Check out this Sept. 2004 profile of Gore by New Yorker editor David Remnick. It provides the definitive look (so far) into the former veep's mind.
