McCain Expands Campaign Media Team

Presumptive GOP nominee John McCain is vastly expanding his campaign media team -- bringing in a number of the leading consultants as he prepares for the general election.

The media operation, which will be known as Foxhole Productions, is adding three media consultants -- Fred Davis, Chris Mottola and Cesar Martinez to the original group of Mark McKinnon, Mike Hudome, Justin Germany and Mark Salter.

Davis is perhaps the biggest name of the recent additions, having worked for McCain early in the cycle before leaving the effort in late July when the Arizona senator essentially ran out of money. Davis is extremely well-regarded in Republican circles, running a boutique media consulting firm with just a few clients every election. In 2006, he helped Govs. Arnold Schwarzenegger (Calif.) and Sonny Perdue (Ga.) win their reelection races and handled the media for Sen. Bob Corker's (Tenn.) narrow victory in the Volunteer State.

Mottola was part of the media team for Rudy Giuliani's failed presidential bid. He has done considerable work in House and Senate races as well, including the 2002 reelection race of Gov. George Pataki (N.Y.) as well as the issue advertising for the National Republican Senatorial Committee in the 2006 Virginia Senate race.

Martinez is a director and producer based out of Texas who worked for the Bush-Cheney team in both the 2000 and 2004 campaigns.

In addition to the core group of media consultants that comprise Foxhole Productions, a separate group of advisers -- known as the McCain Ad Council -- will serve as outside thinkers and strategists to the media effort.

That group is chaired by Las Vegas mover and shaker Sig Rogich and Texas-based consultant Lionel Sosa. The MAC -- as McCain insiders refer to the Council -- includes Jim Farwell of the Farwell Group, Kathy Sosa, Paul Brabender of BrabenderCox, Paul Wilson of Wilson Grand Communications, Jim Innocenzi of Sandler-Innocenzi, Bob Wickers of Dresner, Wickers & Associates, John Gautier, Alex Castellanos of National Media, Myra Adams, Harold Kaplan (a copy-writer who worked with the Bush team in 2000 and 2004) and Richard Price, a senior marketing and advertising official with CVS.

Of that group, Brabender worked with Mottola on the presidential campaign of Giuliani while Castellanos was intimately involved in the ad-making and strategy for Mitt Romney's campaign. Wickers's firm handled all of the polling and media for Mike Huckabee in his recently ended bid for the GOP nomination.

Bringing in consultants previously affiliated with other campaigns serves two purposes. First and most importantly, it shows that McCain won't hold grudges against those who weren't with him from day one now that everyone is seeking to push the rock in the same direction. Second, it reveals a willingness to go outside of a VERY small core of advisers -- a necessary growth process as McCain eases into the role of party nominee.

Of the expanded Foxhole Productions group, McKinnon said, "We've pulled together some of the best and brightest creative minds in the business and a structure we believe will help ensure a first-class media effort to elect John McCain president."

Watch for continued growth in the ranks of McCain's campaign staff at the national level and in key battleground states in the weeks to come. Some Republicans are already grumbling that McCain is moving too slowly to put the requisite parts in place. These moves should quiet that complaining for now, but the burden is still on McCain to grow his campaign (and grow it quickly) over the next month.

Please, I urge the campaign handlers to insist that Sen. McCain start treating his wife with more respect. In nearly every television clip I see where the McCains are together, Mrs. McCain is treated like a mannequin or window dressing. I cannot overstate the negative impression this cast of Sen. McCain. HOLD HER HAND, TREAT HER LIKE A LADY. OBAMA IS WITH HIS WIFE AND IT WORKS!

Obama's efforts to connect to the Republican Party, specifically Bush, and Dick Chaney, of the Halliburton Company, dates back to the Presidents Grandfather, Prescott Bush, and indeed Chaney was once an executive officer of Halliburton.

The American military pounds Iraq with Artillary, bombs, and the like, destroying large sections of cities, and infra-structures, then Halliburton comes in to rebuild. Halliburton and Halliburton associated companies have raked in ten's of billions.

Obama is just like the BIG HALIBURTAN. Haliburton has contracted to build detention centers in the U.S. similiar to the one in Quantanammo Bay, Cuba. Halliburton does nothing to earn the Two Dollars for each meal an American Serviceman in Iraq eats.

http://www.halliburtonwatch.org/

Halliburton was scheduled to take control of the Dubai Ports in The United Arab Emiirate. The deal was canceled when Bush was unable to affect the transfer of the American Ports.

Now we see what some might suspect as similiar financial escapading from the Democrats.

Two years ago, Iraq's Ministry of Electricity gave a $50 million contract to a start-up security company - Companion- owned by now-indicted businessman (TONY REZKO) Tony Rezko and a onetime Chicago cop, Daniel T. Frawley, to train Iraqi power-plant guards in the United States. An Iraqi leadership change left the deal in limbo. Now the company, Companion Security, is working to revive its contract.
Involved along with Antoin "Tony" Rezco, long time friend and neighbor of Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, and former cop Daniel T. Frawley, is Aiham Alsammarae. Alsammarae was accused of financial corruption by Iraqi authorities and jailed in Iraq last year before escaping and returning here.

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON --
Recently, Obama's campaign staff have been vetted by the IRS to disclose his connection to the criminal money generating underworld. Besides, his connections to the REZCO MAFIA types, his up-coming tax fraud charges -- Obama needs to disclose why he is a MUSLIM "PATWANG-FWEEE" and disclose Obama's MUSLIM Farrakhan mob connection to Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. Its minister, and Obama's spiritual adviser, is the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. In 1982, the church launched Trumpet Newsmagazine; Wright's daughters serve as publisher and executive editor. Every year, the magazine makes awards in various categories. Last year, it gave the Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Trumpeter Award to a man it said "truly epitomized greatness." That man is Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan and Chicago's Trinity United Church are trumpeting Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama as the second coming of the messiah. Obama should stop suppoting our intervention in IRAQ. It's time to introduce this false, fake Xerox - X box Obama and invite the self-indicting thief plagiarizing pipsqueke "GLORK" Xerox - X box to meet the Buffalo "GAZOWNT-GAZIKKA" Police Department Buffalo Creek. OBAM YOU'RE NO JFK --

"GLORK" Obama looks like Alfred E. Newman: "Tales Calculated To Drive You." He is a MUSLIM "Glork" He's MAD!!! Alfred E. Neuman is the fictional mascot of Mad. The face had drifted through American pictography for decades before being claimed by Mad editor Harvey Kurtzman after he spotted it on the bulletin board in the office of Ballantine Books editor Bernard Shir-Cliff, later a contributor to various magazines created by Kurtzman.
Obama needs to disclose why he is a MUSLIM "PATWANG-FWEEE" and stop suppoting our intervention in IRAQ. It's time to introduce this false, fake "GLORK" Xerox - X box Obama and invite the self-indicting thief plagiarizing pipsqueke Xerox - X box to meet the Buffalo "GAZOWNT-GAZIKKA" Police Department Buffalo Creek.

Michelle Obama should be ashamed.

"GLORK" Michelle Obama should be ashamed of her separatist-racist connection to Farrakhan and Chicago's Trinity United Church trumpeting Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama as the second coming of the messiah. If Michelle Obama new what her husband -- the Hope-A-Dope, Fonster Monster -- Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama did in Harlem, she would wash her wide-open, Hus-suey loving MUSILM mouth out, with twenty-four (24) mule-team double-cross X-boX-BorraX. THE SPEECH --

The Apologia has arrived and once again the self-indicting, separatist-racist Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama, promises to heal the wounds of the world. The speech is the rude awakening of mass messianism of his campaign. Apologetically, Obama the MUSLIM double-cross X-boX-BorraX has an astonishingly empty two-prawn echelon explanation of his misjudgment.
In the first prawn: with regard to his connection to separatist-racist Rev. Wright; Obama summons voodoo and juju to express slavery as beginning and ending with the Rev. Wright.
In the second prawn: Obama's speech takes credit for Ashley's dream. A dream of unity Martin Luther King, Jr. borrowed from Ashley for his historic "I Have A Dream" speech. In Obama's speech, the connective bond Ashley, the elderly black man and Obama's grandmother share; represents Obama's self-indicting rise to the Harvard Yard. For Obama, the grand flag of language is the semi-fore of words, bestowed upon our nation by the messiah-alumni from Harvard. Obama's Swoon-Song Apologia to the nation represents a failed hymn -- a hymn that fails to heal the nation, repair the world, or make this time different than all the rest. Obama's speech is a brilliant failure.

'The reason the government intervened in the Bear Stearns case was to help the American Family.'

umm, no, it was to bail out a company that knowingly took on too much risk..just like some homeowers, but on a larger, more irresponsible scale.

Posted by: drindl | March 25, 2008 03:00 PM

You are correct Bear Stearns took on too much risk and because of that their stock price plummeted. And true Bear Stearns was irresponsible.
But you ignored the next part of my comment. The government intervened because if Bear Stearns had filed bankruptcy the average American with their savings held with Bear Stearns would not have had access to their money. The government protected the average American from becoming collateral damage when a company acts irresponsibly.
Bear Stearns and their investors have seen the stock price evaporate, they have received punishment for their actions.
If the government bails out homeowners who signed bad loans, etc. what penalty/punishment do they receive? What lesson do they learn? It is not the same situation.

jnoell00, ignore proud's editorializing for a moment (that bit you quoted) and review the article, in which McCain does not unilaterally rule out gov't assistance, but only rules it out for certain groups. For instance, his enumerated list does not exclude people who bought more house than they can reasonably afford with a traditional mortgage. This is a common failure with most of the plans proposed thus far, though the market appears to be making the appropriate corrections - by significantly lowering housing prices.

Posted by: bsimon | March 25, 2008 02:10 PM

My take from the article was that he was not outlining any plan (at this time): his reason was because he didn't think the plan proposed should be about how many votes it will swing the proponent.

I was taken aback when Hillary said "if the government can help Bear Stearns than it can help American families." The reason the government intervened in the Bear Stearns case was to help the American Family. If Bear Stearns had gone bankrupt there would have been many Americans who could not access their savings locked up Bankruptcy Court. But the government shouldn't be passing out mulligans to any homeowner who signed a crappy mortage.

I agree with you about the market correcting, the housing market was inflated to begin with. We shouldn't be messing with a normal market correction.

Both Clinton and Obama have plans that include aid to homeowners.

Jim Webb is getting good reviews for his performance in the Senate. I'm sure he'll be on the veep short list.

Plus Tim Kaine can appoint another Dem to serve the remainder of Webb's term, and Mark Warner will cruise to victory to take John Warner's seat. So Dems, don't worry about the BOP in the Senate.

"McCain doesn't call for enough government intervention, Clinton doesn't address the flaws in the banking system and Obama's proposals are too general."

To err on the side of small government and less intervention is the right thing to do, imo. Clinton and Obama take the typical liberal approach and make empty promises of bailouts and more spending.

Clinton's offer of liability protection to the mortgage servicers is especially galling in light of her opposition to immunity for the telecommunications companies who aided the government's terrorist surveillance efforts.

-- Sen. Jim Webb is sponsoring a revision of the GI Bill, so that servicemembers can afford to come back home after grueling tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere and be able to pay for college at today's costs -- not the ones from WWII that the Pentagon is trying to stingily stick to in today's dollars. On this bill, as on so many others, McCain is a no show:

...College costs have escalated, and benefits have shrunk. Service members are surprised to discover that the grateful nation that made it possible for Sen. John Warner to go to both college and law school and Sen. Frank Lautenberg to graduate from an Ivy League university won't even cover three years at a public institution, much less a private college. Members of the National Guard and Reserves, who have been a linchpin of the current conflicts, receive only a fraction of that help....

[Webb's] revamped GI Bill would cover the full cost of tuition at public institutions in any given state; World War II vets like Lautenberg and Warner are enthusiastic supporters, as are dozens of other senators. (Oddly enough, Webb has not been able to get John McCain, who received the ultimate taxpayer-funded education at the Naval Academy, to take a position on the bill.)...

Unconscionable. But there's McCain, running ads hyping his military service. Supporting vets is something you do -- not just pretend to do, John.

Most apt comment I've read:

McCain doesn't call for enough government intervention, Clinton doesn't address the flaws in the banking system and Obama's proposals are too general.

We bail out banks, but screw consumers with credit card rates/fees. Mortgage disaster is destroying neighborhoods, filled now with abandoned (and increasingly vandalized) homes.

We must find as balance between free market and consumer protection. Neither nanny state nor animal wilderness.

After all, the government exists to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare...etc etc.

Obviously, the economic policies concerning mortgages and loans have not promoted the general welfare.

CC failed to mention that Mark McKinnon is on record as saying that he does not want to face Obama in the general election (regarding making ads against him). He might seriously reisgn his post if (should be when) Obama wins the nomination. That sentiment should not be ignored by Democrats (Obama has even received an endorsement from a former Romney backer). I wonder why CC didn't mention McKinnon's qualms.

This makes me take another look at McCain, because Clinton comparing this to Bear-Sterns is totally erroneous. And Obama is also willing to offer aid (not as much, more reform oriented) but I think any aid is a bad idea.

McCain Says He Won't 'Allow Dogma to Override Common Sense' in Housing Crisis Solutions

"I have always been committed to the principle that it is not the duty of government to bail out and reward those who act irresponsibly, whether they are big banks or small borrowers," McCain said. "Government assistance to the banking system should be based solely on preventing systemic risk that would endanger the entire financial system and the economy."

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/03/25/mccain-says-he-wont-allow-dogma-to-override-common-sense-in-housing-crisis-solutions/

Despite what the libs suggest, John McCain is not in lock step with the party at all times or with President Bush, for that matter. He never has been, it's not his style.

"Looking to the future, McCain said any government assistance to alleviate the housing crisis must be temporary and should be accompanied by reforms that aim to make the system more transparent and accountable to prevent a repeat of the crisis. He said no assistance should be given to speculators, or people who bought houses to rent or as second homes."

Amen to that. No nanny state.

If Obama is the Democratic candidate, McCain will win by a landslide.

Republican 527's will expose Barry Obama for the fraud he is.

Hillary Clinton is Democrats only chance.

Nothing Hillary has done compares to Obama's constantly taking credit for bills he wasn't even involved with, and talking about getting up for 7am meetings about those bills that he never went to.

Obama lied about Rezko on national TV during the debates.

Obama lied about Rev. Wright.

Barry Obama has pulled the biggest "con-job" in history by using his "new kind of politics" pitch to stop the press from looking into his past.

Republicans won't be the least bit shy about doing what the press has failed to do so far.

If we Democrats nominate him, we're going to lose by a landslide.

He's a slick politician.

Just like Bush.

He got elected in Chicago by forcing everyone else off the ballot.

Now he's trying to prevent FL and MI voters from having their votes count.

Just like Bush did with Florida.

State records seem to conflict with Governor Paterson's (D) claim that a busy schedule as lieutenant governor required him on more than a dozen occasions to spend the night at expensive hotels in Albany on the taxpayer's dime rather than at his home in the suburbs. (Snip) Records suggest that many times Mr. Paterson's (D) day did not begin until 9 a.m. On one occasion, he did not have his first scheduled meeting until 2 p.m."

Interesting information. Factual. Relevant.

Whazzup with the registration shifting going on in Penn? Has this sort of thing ever happened before? Or has is NOT happened in other close primaries? What (if any) were the long term effects?

Answering those questions would be interesting, factual and relevant.

Throw a bone to the posters (they could use something to argue about):
What do we make of it? What does this mean for McCain? Is the GOP shrinking? How does this play out in the pundustry?

Obama is surrounded.

The Billary are pursuing their scorched-earth campaign.... the reason must be if Hillary can't "win this thing" in '08, they'll help put McSame in and shoot for '12.

McSame is obviously arming for a Willie Horton, Swiftboating and Call Me Harold mudfest starring the Rev. "GD America" Wright.

The trick for Obama is to fight back while staying on a positive message. He should be staffing up now also, not having to watch his back.

Hopefully, the voters have his back.

THE FINANCIAL TIMES:

"Why we should fear a McCain presidency

It may seem incredible to say this, given past experience, but a few years from now Europe and the world could be looking back at the Bush administration with nostalgia. This possibility will arise if the US elects Senator John McCain as president in November.

Over the years the US has inserted itself into potential flashpoints in different parts of the world. The Republican party is now about to put forward a natural incendiary as the man to deal with those flashpoints.

The problem that Mr McCain poses stems from his ideology, his policies and above all his personality. His ideology, like that of his chief advisers, is neo-conservative. In the past, Mr McCain was considered to be an old-style conservative realist. Today, the role of the realists on his team is merely decorative.

Driven in part by his intense commitment to the Iraq war, Mr McCain has relied more on neo-conservatives such as his close friend William Kristol, the Weekly Standard editor. His chief foreign policy advisor is Randy Scheunemann, another leading neo-conservative and a founder of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq. Mr McCain shares their belief in what Mr Kristol has called "national greatness conservatism". In 1999, Mr McCain declared: "The US is the indispensable nation because we have proven to be the greatest force for good in human history . . . We have every intention of continuing to use our primacy in world affairs for humanity's benefit."

Lindsey has been such a disappointment. For years , he was a credible independent voice in the R party (Admittedly not so hard when surrounded by the likes of Delay & Co).

But something happened to him in the last few years. He turned coat and suddenly became a shil for Bush's War, contradicting his earlier stances. Almost as if Georgie has something on him.

Strange. Sad. He used to be an honorable politician and voice of reason.

Not dissimilar to how McCain has reversed position on so many matters since just before New Hampshire.

"I did not have sniper relations with that country, bosnia. now let me get back to work. I misspoke earlier when I said I did. that was before I knew they had a video."

the creditibility of Lindsay Graham:

"On CBS's Face The Nation this past Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-AZ), who recently returned from a taxpayer-funded trip to Iraq with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), bluntly predicted that "by the end of this year, we will be somewhere around 100,000 troops" in the country. "Most of the fighting will be done by Iraqis with us in overwatch," said Graham.

The day after Graham made his prediction, however, Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker presented plans to President Bush recommending that troop levels in Iraq "remain the same through 2008 as at any time during five years of war." According to the New York Times, Petraeus and Crocker's recommendation means that it "now appears likely that any decision on reductions in American troops from Iraq will be left to the next president."
