Palin Probe Concludes

The investigation into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's role in the firing of the Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan ended late today with a report that concluded that the vice presidential nominee had "abused" power but did not recommend sanctions or criminal proceedings against her.

Both sides claimed vindication and victory.

''It sounds like they've validated my belief and opinions," Monegan told the Associated Press. "And that tells me I'm not totally out in left field.''

Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said the report had validated that the Alaska Governor had "acted within her proper and lawful authority", and dismissed the investigation as a "partisan led inquiry run by Obama supporters".

The Democratic National Committee released a fact sheet containing a series of excerpts from the report and detailed information about the bipartisan nature of the investigation.

The investigation has dogged Palin ever since she was selected in late August as John McCain's running mate. Republicans will now seek to put the matter behind them, insisting that there is nothing more to discuss. Democrats will continue to cite the report in an effort to undermine the idea of Palin and, by insinuation, McCain, as reformers.

No matter your partisan leanings, it's hard to see this as a good headline for Palin with less than a month to go before the election.

(note) Troopergate: In plain English, Sarah Palin has been PROVEN she broke Alaska State Ethics Law in abusing her power in pushing for the firing of a State Trooper once married to her sister and by ALLOWING her husband Todd Palin to use the Alaska Governor's Office in a crusade against the officer. Palin is found by Alaska Legislative Investigation (LAW) of Firing without reasonable "just cause" the Alaska State Public Safety Commissoner Walt Monegan.

Does John McCain "pal around with terrorists?"

Certainly McCain's continuing "association" and relationship with the convicted Watergate burglar and domestic terrorist G. Gordon Liddy might
suggest that is the case, if we are to apply the standards drawn by the McCain campaign.

In 1998, Liddy gave a fundraiser in his Scottsdale, Arizona home for McCain's senatorial re-election campaign -- the two posed for photographs
together; and as recently as May, 2007, as a presidential candidate, McCain
was a guest on Liddy's syndicated radio show. Inexplicably, McCain heaped
praise on his host's values. During the segment, McCain said he was "proud"
of Liddy, and praised Liddy's "adherence to the principles and philosophies
that keep our nation great." . . .
Which of Liddy's "principles and philosophies" was McCain referring to?
Liddy's advocacy of break-ins? Firebombings? Assassinations? Kidnappings?


During the same period that Bill Ayers was a member of the Weather
Underground, Gordon Liddy was making plans to firebomb a Washington think
tank, assassinate a prominent journalist, undertake the Watergate burglary,
break into the office of Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist, and kidnap
anti-war protesters at the 1972 Republican convention.

Regarding Liddy's "continued success and adherence to the principles and
philosophies that keep our nation great:" Did McCain mean to include Liddy's instructions to listeners of his radio show in 1994 (around the time Ayres and Obama were on a board together discussing education programs and other plots) on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents? “Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests."

More recently, Liddy explained making the Clintons objects of shooting practice: "I did relate that on the 4th of July of last year, when I and my family and some friends were out firing away at a properly-constructed rifle range and we ran out of targets, and so we - I drew some stick figure targets and I thought we ought to give them names. So I named them Bill and Hillary, thought it might improve my aim. It didn't. My aim is good anyway. . . . Now, having said that, I accept no responsibility for somebody shooting up the White House."

Is Liddy any less a domestic terrorist than Bill Ayers? It is a zero-sum
argument, for sure. I do not believe, incidentally, that John McCain shares
the most abhorrent of Liddy's values, as expressed in Liddy's actions during the same period that Ayers was a Weatherman - and which Liddy continues to express, unapologetically, to this day.

Wayne Barrett of The Village Voice said, " She shot the sheriff but, she did not shoot the deputy."

He also said the Palins may have built their house for free using the contractor
who built the Wasilla Sports Complex.

It's hard to tell since as mayor, Palin did away with the need for building permits and surprisingly no one wants to cross her and todd.

The report states that Palin did abuse power. Ethical slippage? Hubby Todd throwing his weight around. Sarah interpreting the report as exonerating her. No acknowlegment of her poor judgment and ethical missteps. No question here. It looks like clear signs of her experience as the "reformer" and "maverick" she claims.

14 people who studied the case and know a heck of a lot more then you found otherwise. We also have a matter of a $25,000 tax problem as well as unreported tax by Todd Palin. Add to that a bunch of religious trips billed to the state, friends hired with no qualifications put in high paying jobs. The deeper they go into her activities the more they find, there seems to be no bottom.

Palin is the consummate local crooked politician you will find in many small towns. A regular "Boss Hogg". If you read Alaskan papers they feel like they were scammed. Palin is nothing they thought they were electing, just another run of the mill crook.

Another family friend revealed pre-prego Bristol was as much of a hard partier as Track was.

“Bristol was a huge stoner and drinker. I’ve seen her smoke pot and get drunk and make out with so many guys. All the guys would brag that the just made out with Bristol.”

When Sarah found out the teen was pregnant by high schooler Levi Johnston, she was actually banished from the house. As part of the cover-up, Palin quickly transferred Bristol to another high school and made her move in with Sarah’s sister Heather 25 miles away!

And the ENQUIRER also learned that Levi Johnston, the baby mamma’s future wedded dada, who was glad handed by John McCain at the GOP Convention, isn’t too happy about his impending shotgun nups either.

“Levi got dragged out of the house to go to Minnesota,” Levi’s friend told The ENQUIRER. “Levi realizes he’s stuck being with Bristol because her mom is running for Vice President.”

CNN is busy playing the race card for McCain. No wonder he decided to stop his foul attacks. They’re doing his dirty work for him.
Ostensibly, they are debating the Bradley effect but what they are really debating Obama’s electability . In addition they are now quoting Castro in Cuba regarding race. It seems he too, likes Obama . This is disgusting.
Even Fox would not stoop this low.
They follow in the footsteps of that paragon of virtue, Palin.

Palin appears to be misleading the public (again)...

In a nutshell, the way the Legislative Council report reads:

1) Palin abused the power of her office by trying to get the trooper fired. This is a violation of the ethics act and of the public trust which is a very serious matter.

2) Palin was within her rights to dismiss the cabinet member, but in part it was because he wouldn’t fire the trooper.

As McCain himself said about Commissioner Cox, he's abused the public trust and should be immediately dismissed.
So should Palin.
Shame on her.

I am appalled that no one thinks this is a big deal. Where's the honest media cover on the topic? Why let Palin's spin be all that's out there for general consumption?

One question for this self-opinionated upstart: Do you know what a nuclear holocaust is?

Sarah Palin, Mrs. Nobody know-it-all shreiking cow from Alaska, the joke of American politics, plied with a couple of vodkas before letting rip in front of incredulous audiences while McCain coos in the background, cuts a ridiculous figure as she strives to be taken seriously.

How can anyone whose husband is a member of the Alaska Independence Party and who is running for the Vice Presidency of the Union be taken seriously? How indeed can the Republican Party be taken seriously for not vetting this female, or have they not yet discovered the skeletons in her closet? We have.

So Sarah Palin, Mrs. Hockey Mom housewife-cum-small-town gossip merchant and cheap little guttersnipe, suppose you shut up and allowed real politicians and diplomats to do their work? Threatening Russia with a war is perhaps the most irresponsible thing anyone could do at this moment in time. Have you any idea what a nuclear holocaust is? Have you any notion of the power of Russia’s armed forces? Did you know that Russia has enough missiles to destroy any target anywhere on Earth in seconds?

And have you not forgotten, you pith-headed little bimbo from the back of beyond, that small detail about the slaughter of Russian citizens by Georgians, which started the whole debacle? So let's get this straight. John McCain's team chose someone whose political career was tightly interwoven with - and supported by - extremists. Not just average wingnuts. Extremists. Radicals. A secessionist and a paranoid militia organizer.

"The Alaskan Independence Party has got links to almost every independence-minded movement in the world," Chryson exclaimed. "And Alaska is not the only place that's about separation. There's at least 30 different states that are talking about some type of separation from the United States."


This has meant rubbing shoulders and forging alliances with outright white supremacists and far-right theocrats, particularly those who dominate the proceedings at such gatherings as the North American Secessionist conventions, which AIP delegates have attended in recent years.


The AIP has also had a long association with the Constitution Party, which has had a prominent role in a number of racist "patriot" (i.e. militia) movements.

Essentially here’s what they found:

*That Gov. Palin, when a Wasilla city council member, formed an alliance with some of the more radical far-right citizens in Wasilla and vicinity, particularly members of the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party who were allied with local John Birch Society activists. These activists played an important role in her election as Wasilla mayor in 1996.

*Once mayor, one of Mrs. Palin’s first acts was to attempt to appoint one of these extremists (a man named Steve Stoll) to her own seat on the city council. This was a man with a history of disrupting city council meetings with intimidating behavior. She was blocked by a single city council member.

*Afterward, Mrs. Palin fired the city’s museum director at the behest of this faction.
-
*Palin fomented an ultimately successful effort to derail a piece of local gun-control legislation which would simply have prohibited the open carry of firearms into schools, liquor stores, libraries, courthouses and the like. The people recruited to shout this ordinance down included these same figures, notably the local AIP representative (who became the AIP’s chairman that same year).

*Palin remained associated politically with the local AIP/Birch faction throughout her tenure as mayor on other issues, particularly a successful effort to amend the Alaska Constitution to prohibit local governments from issuing any local gun-control ordinances.


In general, they found that not only did Mrs. Palin have numerous associations with these extremists, she actively sought to empower them locally and to enact their agendas both locally and on a state level.

So, McCain's cute lil' sidekick, that all-American hockey mom, the "pitbull with lipstick" that the cable news networks just couldn't get enough of for weeks, is actually so far removed from mainstream American politics and ideals that it's impossible to imagine her ever handling the job for which she has been recruited.


Palin may inspire the rightwing lunitic fringers, and she may be able to tell voters the best way to store their gold and guns when the black helicopters come, but she's clearly the worst possible choice McCain could have made for his potential successor.

obama.JPGI work with a young leftist who is on some committee or something raising funds for Obama. I didn’t get the chance to ask him what he thinks of Obama’s muslim past…but he came over to me and was showing me his personally-signed copy of ‘audacity of hope’ - and I asked him what he thought of Obama’s ‘liberation theology church’. He started backing up with his book, saying he doesn’t like to get involved with ‘religion’ - or ‘peoples’ religions’. And I said, well maybe you should look into it, because it’s marxist. That’s when he started walking really fast away from me. I left it right there, although Obama’s church recently gave Louis Farrakhan the Dr. A Wright Jr. Trumpet award. Maybe I should have mentioned that, too. What I’d really like to get around to talking about with this kid is - Odinga, Kenya and Obama.

Because it’s what’s going on in Kenya that we should be watching.

It turns out that Raila Odinga, the communist, who has the support of the muslims who are killing people in Kenya- is Obama’s cousin.

Obama and his paternal 1st cousin Odinga, wanted to bring the whole of Kenya under Sharia law. Obama campaigned for Odinga in August of 2006,just before he filed with the US Federal Elections Commission for his presidential candidacy.

The idea was simply to have the Luo tribe, mostly Muslims, to take over Kenya from the inheritors of colonial power, the Kikuyu, and bring the country under Sharia law, kick out the Western investors in the nation that had made it one of the most stable nations in Africa, and supplant those Western investors with wealthy Arab oil money.It all failed.Then Odinga yelled election fraud, and put his Luo Islamofascists into the streets of Nairobi to “protest” by murdering, raping and maiming Kikuyu people, including the recent burning alive of a church full of Christians.

If Obama and Odinga had succeeded, the next step in the plan would be for president Obama to help Odinga consolidate his power over Kenya by international recognition and trade. That will NOT happen. Obama wanted to expand Islamofascism, and annex Kenya to Somalia and the Sudan in an Islamofascist axis.

This puts both Obama and Odinga right up there in a pantheon with Idi Amin.Obama hates America, and the basis for America’s wealth. His actions show this.

Melanie Phillips thinks this is worrying; and perhaps an indication of what he means when he talks about being the ‘candidate for change’.

His cousin Odinga is partnering with Islamic jihadists who are behind the violence in Kenya over his loss at the polls. Odinga is connected with Al Qaeda, for crying out loud. We should be asking question after question of Obama and his campaign, because the next president - like it or not-will be a war president. And we should not have someone in the highest office in our land who would not only be the first muslim president, but who would aggressively enable our jihadist enemies; as their ally.

Who’s to say Obama wouldn’t aggressively work to install sharia and fulfill CAIR’s dream for the US, just like his cousin is attempting to do in Kenya? All indications are…that’s exactly the ‘change’ that he’s looking for.

and have put up an ongoing string of posts on Obama since. All of your stuff has been covered in my posts, long ago. I bring this up as, since I’m a member of the Stop The ACLU coalition, it would be nice if you would give credit where it’s due.

I can’t say that Atlas Shrugs didn’t get this from me although I know she visited my posts. A lot of people shy away from my blog name. Islama Nazi.com does tend to make the faint-hearted a bit fainter.

It would be nice if you’d check in once in a while at my place, as I do here. You could have had a big jump start on this subject if you had. Just mentioning.

I have to admit, it may be egotistical but I do like to get credit for my work.

I have no clue why Obama supported his cousin but I do know that some Christians supported Hitler until he revealed his true self. Does that make those Christians guilty of his sins because a number of humanists seem to say it does? As for sharia law comming into effect in this country it would have to take a legislative action by Congress or an unconstitutional action by another section of the federal government and I don’t see it happening. I don’t see Obama as a Muslim either unless you are talking a Secularist pretending to be a Muslim. As it is he pretends to be a Christian.

She's just one more in a line of bad guy Republicans using power for their own ends. At least hers did not entangle large amounts of money or the appointment of judges. Obama has the poll numbers to win and send her back to Alaska and McCain back to the senate. However, voting irregularties in Florida and Ohio may once again change the outcome of this election. Word on the street has it that some machines with no paper trail are set 60/40 favor John McCain in Florida and a mixture of that in Ohio. Just ask Vegas how they do it.

A Wasted Vote

When asked why they will not vote for a third party candidate, many people will respond by saying something like, "He cannot win." Or, "I don't want to waste my vote." It is true: America has not elected a third party candidate since 1860. Does that automatically mean, however, that every vote cast for one of the two major party candidates is not a wasted vote? I don't think so.

In the first place, a wasted vote is a vote for someone you know does not represent your own beliefs and principles. A wasted vote is a vote for someone you know will not lead the country in the way it should go. A wasted vote is a vote for the "lesser of two evils." Or, in the case of John McCain and Barack Obama, what we have is a choice between the "evil of two lessers."

Albert Einstein is credited with saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. For years now, Republicans and Democrats have been leading the country in the same basic direction: toward bigger and bigger government; more and more socialism, globalism, corporatism, and foreign interventionism; and the dismantling of constitutional liberties. Yet, voters continue to think that they are voting for "change" when they vote for a Republican or Democrat. This is truly insane!

Take a look at the recent $850+ Billion Wall Street bailout paid by taxpayers: both John McCain and Barack Obama endorsed and lobbied for it. Both McCain and Obama will continue to bail out these international banksters on the backs of the American taxpayers. Both McCain and Obama support giving illegal aliens amnesty and a path to citizenship. In the debate this past Tuesday night, both McCain and Obama expressed support for sending U.S. forces around the world for "peacekeeping" purposes. They also expressed support for sending combat forces against foreign countries even if those countries do not pose a threat to the United States. Neither Obama nor McCain will do anything to stem the tide of a burgeoning police state or a mushrooming New World Order. Both Obama and McCain support NAFTA and similar "free trade" deals. Neither candidate will do anything to rid America of the Federal Reserve, or work to eliminate the personal income tax, or disband the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Both Obama and McCain support the United Nations. So, pray tell, how is a vote for either McCain or Obama not a wasted vote?

But, back to the "he cannot win" argument: to vote for John McCain is to vote for a man who cannot win. Yes, I am saying it here and now: John McCain cannot win this election. The handwriting is on the wall. The Fat Lady is singing. It is all over. Finished. John McCain cannot win.

With only three weeks before the election, Barack Obama is pulling away. McCain has already pulled his campaign out of Michigan. In other key battleground states, McCain is slipping fast. He was ahead in Missouri; now it is a toss-up or leaning to Obama. A couple of weeks ago, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida were all leaning towards McCain, or at least toss-up states. Now, they are all leaning to Obama. Even the longtime GOP bellwether state of Indiana is moving toward Obama. In addition, new voter registrations are at an all-time high, and few of them are registering as Republicans. In fact, the Republican Party now claims only around 25% of the electorate, and Independents are increasingly leaning toward Obama.

Ladies and gentlemen, Barack Obama is headed for an electoral landslide victory over John McCain. John McCain can no more beat Barack Obama than Bob Dole could beat Bill Clinton.

I ask, therefore, Are not conservatives and Christians who vote for John McCain guilty of the same thing that they accuse people who vote for third party candidates of doing? Are they not voting for someone who cannot win? Indeed, they are. In fact, conservatives and Christians who vote for John McCain are not only voting for a man who cannot win, they are voting for a man who does not share their own beliefs and principles. If this is not insanity, nothing is!

So, why not (for once in your life, perhaps) cast a vote purely for principle! Vote for someone who is truly pro-life. Someone who would quickly secure our nation's borders, and end the invasion of our country by illegal aliens. Someone who would, on his first day in office, release Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean and fire U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton. Someone who would immediately, upon assuming office, begin leading the charge to dismantle the Federal Reserve, overturn the 16th Amendment, expunge the IRS, and return America to sound money principles. Someone who would get the US out of the UN. Someone who would stop spending billions and trillions of dollars for foreign aid. Someone who would prosecute the Wall Street bankers who defrauded the American people out of billions of dollars. Someone who would work to repeal NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, the WTO, and stop the NAFTA superhighway. Someone who would say a resounding "No" to the New World Order. Someone who would stop using our brave men and women in uniform as global cops for the United Nations. Someone who would stop America's global adventurism and interventionism. Someone who would steadfastly support and defend the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

Some weeks ago, the McCain team devised a plan to have Palin file an ethics complaint against herself with the State Personnel Board, arguing that it alone was capable of conducting a fair, nonpartisan inquiry into whether she fired Monegan because he refused to fire Wooten, who had been involved in a messy custody battle with her sister. Some Democrats ridiculed the move, noting that the personnel board answered to Palin. But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin's 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles. Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel's report could be released soon after. "Rep. Mark Souder, an Indiana Republican, said he was looking at an "Obama tide" in his district and wondering about his own reelection: "Can I withstand a firestorm?"

"The impression of McCain on the economy is that he wanted more deregulation than Bush" at a time that voters are demanding more help from the government, he said. "I'm not sure right now that McCain can carry seven states," added Souder, whose home state has not picked a Democrat for president since 1964. "In the end I think McCain will carry Indiana. But if you are fighting for Indiana, you are in trouble."
And problems in Florida as well:

In conservative Naples, Fla. -- a heavily white, Republican area -- retirees and other residents have been hard hit by plummeting property values, rising tax bills and skyrocketing insurance premiums -- and McCain advisors, citing internal campaign polling, concede that the GOP nominee is "underperforming" there.

The Miami Herald is reporting this morning that some Florida Republicans are beginning to slowly distance themselves from McCain, including top surrogate Charlie Crist:

Even Gov. Charlie Crist, who helped deliver Florida for McCain during the primary, said he will spend the final weeks before Election Day minding the state's weak economy rather than campaigning for the Arizona senator.

''When I have time to help, I'll try to do that,'' Crist said last week, after he flew around the state with McCain running mate Sarah Palin. Saturday, he skipped a McCain football rally and instead went to Disney World. "

Get over it Manolete...Palin's abuse of power and ethics violations were of her own doing and judged by a panel overweighted with Repubs vs Dems.
The investigation began before she was on the ticket so "Obama supporters" didn't start it , contrary to her false claim.
Don't think you can throw a sexism charge into the works and have anybody believe you if the facts say otherwise.

The only sexism I have seen is by the way Palin has been handled by the Mccain campaign. They treat Palin different then any candidate in history. They obviously think she is so unqualified they can't let her out of their sight for fear she will confirm it. I am sorry, you are jumping on the wrong bandwagon. Palin is not worth it there are far more really worth while women out there to admire. Palin is little more then backwoods trash her and her whole family.

Another family friend revealed pre-prego Bristol was as much of a hard partier as Track was.

“Bristol was a huge stoner and drinker. I’ve seen her smoke pot and get drunk and make out with so many guys. All the guys would brag that the just made out with Bristol.”

When Sarah found out the teen was pregnant by high schooler Levi Johnston, she was actually banished from the house. As part of the cover-up, Palin quickly transferred Bristol to another high school and made her move in with Sarah’s sister Heather 25 miles away!

And the ENQUIRER also learned that Levi Johnston, the baby mamma’s future wedded dada, who was glad handed by John McCain at the GOP Convention, isn’t too happy about his impending shotgun nups either.

Am I the only one who sees what is going on here with Palin? We all know she has no qualifications and she was just picked as window dressing and as a stooge to say what ever they put in her mouth. No candidate in their right mind would really want her on their ticket. This is what I think will happen and may already be secretly in the plan.

If Mccain manages to get elected, they will get rid of Palin as soon as they can, using all of the scandal surrounding her as the reason to force her to resign. There is already information of drug use by her son and both daughters and Enquirer has eluded to something coming out about Palin and her husband are regular drug users. Once rid of her, Mcain then can put in Lieberman like he wanted to all along and that is how it will play out. What do you think, make sense?

Why is the mainstream media ignoring Todd Palin's ties to the radically rightwing Alaska Independence Party? We have wasted too much ink on this Aryes thing while Todd Palin was a member of the AIP which advocates succession from the United States. From what we know there has been no contact between Aryes and Obama in years yet this report shows that the “first dude” was almost a shadow governor. Where is the mainstream media? The press should explore this relationship so we know about the husband of the person only a heartbeat away from the presidency.

He cursed the stars and stripes, promising, "I won't be buried under their damned flag...when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home." Palin has never denounced Vogler or his detestable anti-Americanism.

Palin's husband Todd remained an AIP party member from 1995 to 2002. Sarah can be described in McCarthy-era palaver as a "fellow traveler." While retaining her Republican registration, she attended the AIP's 1994 convention where the party called for a draft constitution to secede from the United States and create an independent nation of Alaska. The McCain Campaign has reluctantly acknowledged that she also attended AIP's 2000 Convention. She apparently found the experience so inspiring that she agreed to give a keynote address at the AIP's 2006 convention and she recorded a video greeting for this year's 2008 convention. In other words, this is not something that happened when she was eight!

So when Palin accuses Barack of "not seeing the same America as you and me," maybe she is referring to an America without Alaska. In any case, isn't it time the media start giving equal time to Palin's buddy list of anti-American bombers and other radical associates?

These hate rallies hardly seem like spontaneous events so I do buy into what popasmoke is selling. And the one fool who always screams some slur to incite the Yahoos clearly seems to be a plant.

Given the polls (up 12 DailyKos), unless there is some ridiculous Bradley effect, the result on Nov. 4 is probably a foregone conclusion. But the agenda underlying these hate rallies -- that needs not be spelled out -- should concern all Americans. Stay safe, O.

"I saw a video of people entering a Palin Mccain rally and they were carrying what looked like professionally printed signs saying "Terrorist" and "Traitor". At the rallies you can see them waving them. If Palin and John Mccain didn't want that they would have been stopped at the door and had the signs taken away. Those rallies have very strong security. It leads me to believe they were supplied with the signs by Mccain and palin."

37thandO, the Obama people are not injecting race into the campaign. Unfortunately, McCain/Palin is stirring up what I can only describe as a lynch mob.

My husband's late dad, and much of his family, were Holocaust survivors. Quite a few of them weren't survivors.

When I see this sort of organized, hatred, it genuinely scares me.

That is not a desire to inject race in this campaign. It is horror that we would sink so low in this country, and revulsion at the people that would do it.

I cannot see how any thinking person could possibly condone what McCain and Palin are doing.

How is it that the Republican Presidential nominee, a self-professed Maverick, who was widely celebrated for his opposition on various issues to an extreme Right-Wing President of his own party came to choose as his Vice-Presidential nominee a person so ill-equipped, so ill-informed, so extreme as the moronic Governor of Alaska?

He has chosen as his running mate a truly stupid person who is below his level and casts doubt upon his decision-making capability.

The ridiculous selection of Palin was the beginning of the end for McCain. He is unlikely to gather more than 45% of the National Popular Vote due to his pro-Bush voting record, the recent economic collapse, and his move to embrace the right-wing extremists as symbolized by Palin rather than moving toward the center as a VP choice of someone like Tom Ridge would have represented.

Right-wing scum currently dominates the Republican Party to such an extreme that it frustrates and alienates conservative intellectuals like David Brooks, David Frum (why are so many Republicans named David?) and George Will. That alone should indicate that ordinary Americans are best off voting with the party who best serves their economic interests. It will be a long hibernation for Republicans. Everyone realizes they are the problem.

I saw a video of people entering a Palin Mccain rally and they were carrying what looked like professionally printed signs saying "Terrorist" and "Traitor". At the rallies you can see them waving them. If Palin and John Mccain didn't want that they would have been stopped at the door and had the signs taken away. Those rallies have very strong security. It leads me to believe they were supplied with the signs by Mccain and palin.

They will be talking about Obama's support of Raila Odinga in Kenya's 2007 election. Raila Odinga is now the Prime Minister of Kenya. He was appointed to the job after he lost the presidential campaign. In 2007 Barack and Michelle Obama traveled to Kenya at taxpayer expense to help him with his campaign to win the presidency of Kenya. Odinga had bargained with Muslims in Kenya to institute Islamic Sharia law in Kenya in exchange for their support once he became president. Raila had the same slogan that you see today in Barack's campaign ("change") on signs that he spread across the country. When Odinga lost, he accused Kibaki of fraud, and widespread violence subsequently broke out in Kenya.

McCain is already in a freefall. He is going to lose as it is. No one has ever come back to win after a such a big deficit (some polls show double digits) in the polls less than one month before the election.

Will Palin's negative news hurt even more? Hard to say. It certainly doesn't help McCain. But it's hard to quantify an impact. Suffice to say it is one more negative that undercuts their personal attacks on Obama's integrity. And that one more negative makes it that much less likely that McCain can come back in any way that puts the election outcome in doubt.

GOOD OLD JOHN, WHAT A GUY.

Writing for the Daily Beast, Michael Kinsley relays a disturbing story about John McCain from Jeff Dearth, former publisher of the New Republic, when Dearth and McCain attended a magazine industry conference at a casino hotel in Puerto Rico in 2005:

McCain's game is craps. So is Jeff Dearth's. Jeff was at the table when McCain showed up and happily made room for him. Apparently there is some kind of rule or tradition in craps that everyone's hands are supposed to be above the table when the dice are about to be thrown. McCain--"very likely distracted by one of the many people who approached him that evening," Jeff says charitably--apparently was violating this rule. A small middle-aged woman at the table, apparently a "regular," reached out and pulled McCain's arm away. I'll let Jeff take over the story:

"McCain immediately turned to the woman and said between clenched teeth: 'DON'T TOUCH ME.' The woman started to explain...McCain interrupted her: 'DON'T TOUCH ME,' he repeated viciously. The woman again tried to explain. 'DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO?' McCain continued, his voice rising and his hands now raised in the 'bring it on' position. He was red-faced. By this time all the action at the table had stopped. I was completely shocked. McCain had totally lost it, and in the space of about ten seconds. 'Sir, you must be courteous to the other players at the table,' the pit boss said to McCain. "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? ASK ANYBODY AROUND HERE WHO I AM."

This being Puerto Rico, the pit boss might not have known McCain. But the senator continued in full fury--"DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO? DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?"--and crisis was avoided only when Jeff offered to change places and stand between McCain and the woman who had touched his arm.

I know that its about EVs, not total votes, but Obama's 7% national lead is huge. There's no way that McCain will overcome a lead that large based on electoral politics. Even Bush's lead in 2004 was only about 3% IIRC.

I think this is largely out of McCain's hands now. Perhaps a terrorist attack could save him, or if that Michelle Obama whitey tape was really out there, that might save McCain as well.

And yeah, people are getting out there and voting. I've been calling people in Florida all week. It's amazing hjow many people don't know about early voting. Well, they do now and their votes are locked in.

Early voting in Florida begins on 10/20/08

We will be taking people to vote if for some reason they don't have a way to get there. Early voting is important and will account to the maximum number of voters turning out. We have a data base with thousands of registered voters who will be getting emails and reminders and if they need to make arrangements. Nothing left to chance those voters will be voting, young, old and in between.

The on-ground information is Virginia is much stronger for O than in the polls; it's gone. If O has VA, then he can lose both OH and FL which he won't. Plus a lot of folks have already voted so last minute cartoon stunts, or bogus national emergencies by Mac will have less effect than in the past. We don't see Mac's path to 270; the path certainly isn't through the band of handpicked yahoos he and Joan of Ick have been performing for.

John Lewis, invoking George Wallace, says McCain and Palin 'playing with fire'
Civil rights icon and Georgia congressman John Lewis is accusing John McCain and Sarah Palin of stoking hate, likening the atmosphere at Republican campaign events to those featuring George Wallace, the segregationist former governor of Alabama and presidential candidate.

"What I am seeing reminds me too much of another destructive period in American history," Lewis said in a statement issued today. "Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need for this hostility in our political discourse."

Lewis didn't accuse McCain of imitating Wallace, but suggested there were similarities.

"George Wallace never threw a bomb," Lewis noted. "He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights. Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama."

Lewis's sharp words may be dismissed as those of a partisan Democrat in a campaign season. But the former head of SNCC and hero of Selma is somebody who McCain has lavished praise upon over the years, including admiring him in a book on courage and bravery and repeatedly invoking Lewis's name in public appearances.

Appearing with Barack Obama at a forum at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church in August, McCain included Lewis as one of "three wise men" he would consult as president.

"He can teach us all a lot about the meaning of courage and commitment to causes greater than our self-interest," McCain said of Lewis.

Now, Lewis is castigating McCain in the harshest of terms.

“As public figures with the power to influence and persuade, Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all," Lewis said today. "They are playing a very dangerous game that disregards the value of the political process and cheapens our entire democracy. We can do better. The American people deserve better.”

I hate to agree with unhinged elements of our society, i.e., "scrivener" (I can't believe I'm doing this) but it does seem that, at these Mac/Palin separatist rallies, there is always one fool who yells out a slur to incite the rest and that fool never looks like the rest of the pinheaded Yahoos. It does appear that these hate "events" are not spontaneous but staged and the designated fool is a plant.

Whatever, O is up 12 in Daily Kos and 11 in Newsweek, and is at 277 on the electoral map. Chris Buckley (son of Wm. F., founder of modern conservatism) has endorsed O.

I saw a video of people entering a Palin Mccain rally and they were carrying what looked like professionally printed signs saying "Terrorist" and "Traitor". At the rallies you can see them waving them. If Palin and John Mccain didn't want that they would have been stopped at the door and had the signs taken away. Those rallies have very strong security. It leads me to believe they were supplied with the signs by Mccain and palin.

Palin protests the findings but she declined to be interviewed for the inquiry or to supply evidence, exculpatory or otherwise.
Therefore she has no right to protest the finding she acted unethically and unlawfully.
The findings were by a Republican dominated committee, not "Obama operatives"

The bottom line for those who don't already get sh*ts and giggles when talking about Palin.

SHE IS NOT FIT TO BE PRESIDENT

Politico reporters should spend some time on the periphery of these rallies, in the hours before the scheduled event.

They might discern that some of the most vociferous rabble-rousers hang together in packs, don't quite look like your "average Joe," and appear to be part of an orchestrated "street theater" -- not necessarily a reflection of spontaneous crowd enthusiasm. Examine closely their attire, and the electronics they are carrying.

Could they be the "stromtroopers" in a troubling offensive?

She helps with the base, which they have to attract in order to win. She hinders with the swing voters, which they have to attract in order to win.

What they failed to do was move to the center. Bush campaigned as a centrist, but used enough of the 'dog whistle' catchphrases to reassure the base he was with them (i.e. mentioning Dred Scott). The McCain campaign has used Palin only to reassure & motivate the base, which has alienated the swing voters.

I think that this says a lot about Palin's advisors. Alaska, like Hawaii, has a terrible political environment (despite Alaska being R and Hawaii being D). The politics of some Canadian provinces have the same lack of depth. Palin is - as even her strongest proponents know - raw material. I don't think that she would have made this mistake had she been in a more populous state, and she sure won't do it again if she survives in national politics.

I still don't know if she's a help or a hindrance on the R ticket...

The choice of Palin shows out of step Mccain is. He thinks this in 1980 where people get their news from a 30 report at 6 pm and the news paper in the front yard. He has no concept of a 24 hour news cycle and the internet. Bloggers and everyday people who can find out most anything if they make the effort and it is around the world in seconds.

You can't say one thing one day and something the next and think it is your word against theirs as to what you said. Mccain didn't know about youtube where anything you say or do is immortalized. Lies just don't work anymore if people want to know the truth.

There is no such thing anymore as trying to keep the lid on something or making it hold till the election is over. He should have known that what ever there was to know about Palin would be found out, but he didn't.

Again, Mccain thinks this 1980. He seems like a man who just stepped off a time machine in the future and has no idea what is going on. I have to wonder how he even preforms job as a senator being so behind in the times. "MY GOD" the man doesn't even use a computer.

This last month closed the deal for Obama. People have been saying for months when is he going to close the deal with the American people? The last months we saw who acted like a president and who didn't. It is said in politics if you want to know how someone will govern you just have to watch how the run their campaign. Mccain has no control of his campaign at all. It is hard to tell who is in charge at all. One thing is for sure, it defiantly is not John Mccain. John Mccain would be such a weak president there is no telling who would be in charge. Maybe Cheney and his gang who knows.

I checked out the 3 major Alaskan newspapers today. While the editorials on Troopergate will most likely come out tomorrow, I found out some things that most of us are probably completely unaware of.

For example, 1 of the 3 columns I spotlighted and linked to, refers to how the RNC has all but taken over the governor's office.

Another, from 2 weeks ago, suggests that troopergate investigtor Steve Branchflower needs to be warned about the consequences, should a critical Palin report come out before election day.

You know what is going to be the best part of this whole story? Mccain is going to lost that is almost a certainty. They will throw Palin under the bus in like two seconds on Nov 5th. Palin has no idea how treacherous the people are she is dealing with. She will head back to Alaska and there will be no more secret service or republican operatives surrounding her. They will all disappear as she goes back pretty much in disgrace. Her approval in Alaska has crashed and people who have been intimidated for the last month or so will take it out on her. People there have actually been afraid to speak to the media. Many openly admitted they didn't want to get on the bad side of Palin. One waitress at a diner where Palin often eats who told the story about Palin's use of the "N" word and her calling her an "Arctic Arab" later was very afraid and wanted to be sure her name was not used. Palin has been up there in Alaska like a little "Boss Hogg" doing what ever the heck she wanted. I have a feeling things are going to change when she gets back. They will turn on her and not be afraid of her anymore.

Without a doubt and I will tell you why. Before the divorce Sarah Palin wrote glowing letters for Wooten to the right people in an attempt to help his career. Obviously because he was married to her sister she wanted to see him get promotions make more money and so on. Then after the divorce according to her he now became this monster.
See a pattern here?
Palin lies about what what ever it is that serves her needs at the time. In short, she can not be trusted. She is the opposite of everything Mccain has introduced her as, she is a fraud.

Todays numbers make it look like we may be looking at a landslide. At this point Mccain is hardly breaking 40 the lowest he has been since this began. Obama is over 50 almost across the board.
One of the top Republican analysts last night on CNN said it will be a landslide for Obama and all Mccain has left is how much of his legacy he destroys after so many years in politics with the campaign he is running. Although Obama has gone up in the polls the real story is how Mccain has fallen in the polls since they started the campaign of hate. Mccains numbers are at an all time low and continuing to fall. The funny part is, Pailn was at it again today. She has taken his campaign completely into the toilet. All that is left is for the voters to flush on Nov. 4th.

Abuse of power and violation of the public trust is just about the worst thing any official can do. They are elected and we actually give them power over us and how they use that power is the problem.
It is much like a police officer who is a bigot and stops black people for no reason. Is he within his rights? yes. Has he broken any laws, No. Has he abused the power we have given him. YES.

That is what she was found guilty of. She through her vindictive nature fired a man for no reason other then personal. Depriving him of a livelihood, his benefits, his ability to take care of his family. That is why you have to be very careful of the people we give this kind of power to. She has shown she can not be trusted with power and this is not the only event in her past like this.

One of the most interesting thing that came out in the report is the power of her husband. It actually sounds like he is in fact in charge and she is just a stooge much like she is in the Mccain campaign. She is a brainless puppet.

If McCain put the effort into vetting Palin as Palin put in trying to fire her ex-brother in law, he never would have picked her. The sad truth is that McCain gambled on an risky pick for VP without doing his homework. He was willing to put 'That Women' a heartbeat away from the presidency just to pander to the most extreme factions of the republican party. That shows a lack of judgment and character and (along with a long list of other reasons) disqualifies him from being the President.

2. She is kept hidden from the press

3. Than her selected interviews – SNL tells it best

4. She debates Biden – I think

5. After the debate, McCain camp says no more interviews

6. Now the Troopergate report (think McCain will let her do any interviews)

I am shocked, simply SHOCKED at the conclusion reached by the investigation.

What's not shocking is the realization that we all have come to expect misconduct and abuse of power from those we elect.

Without ethics to enforce or anyone to do it (Wall Street is self regulating, too), we all remain vulnerable to political corruption and misbehavior. They absolutely will not clean up their own acts.

So?

For the next three election cycles, actively work against and do not vote for ANY incumbent.

Many people (not party extremists), are now seriously concerned and are no longer willing to tolerate the corruption and misbehavior engaged in by both 'sides'.Neglect of their prime responsibility, the protection of the American people (seen Wall street recently?) has shown us all that a House (and Senate)cleaning is long overdue.

For the next three election cycles, please work against the reelection of ANY incumbent.
This is a plea to all moderates, to all NONPARTISANS. Let us rid ourselves of these people who do not represent us, take only for themselves and their special interests and view the American people as sheep to be shorn.

Please, send no incumbent back to Washington, D.C.

Palin's a maverick. As mayor of Wasilla, the first thing she did was fire the sheriff and attempt to fire the librarian. Then, as governor, she made state resources available for her husband to carry on a vendetta against her ex-brother in law. She hired her high school buddies to high-paying state jobs (such as naming a real estate agent to be secretary of agriculture based on her childhood love of cows). As everyone knows, Palin is totally ignorant about national issues. Unethical, stupid, unqualified - but there she is, running for VP. That's pretty mavericky, isn't it?

The legislative panel that started the investigation BEFORE Palin was picked as VP has MORE republicans than democrats and they voted unanimously for the probe. This was no democratic effort.

Secondly, Trooper Wooten is a union officer. The investigation into him was closed. There was no way the Safety Commisioner could fire him without controversy. The arrogance of the Palins is stunning. If they had valid justification for for going after Wooten, they should hae filed some sort of FORMAL complaint instead of this asserting pressure on officials which has been deemed an ABUSE of POWER.

Does anyone doubt Palin is a drag on the ticket?? She may fire up the base but this contest will be won/lose in the middle.

if she were truly concerned about her safety and that of her family's, why did she dismiss her security detail?

if this is a democratic effort to wipe her out, why was this a unanimous vote of a council of 10 republicans and 4 democrats?

how could obama, in any way, be connected to these efforts when the investigation started before she was chosen as running mate?

the bottom line is this...she blew it...she neglected to separate her personal issues from that of the office and she allowed her husband far more power and access than legally deserved...it exemplifies her immaturity in leadership and her clan or pack like mentality of attack.

mccain knew of the issue when selecting her and felt comfortable in taking the gamble to choose her as his running mate...he has now tied his hands on two counts, the experience issue and the issue of transparency and trust.

it is difficult to give a bruising to one's opponent, when you've been confirmed as being untrustworthy yourself...given that we've known palin for 5-6 weeks now and that most of what we know is not particularly impressive or comforting, it would seem that they'd want to back off of their indictments against obama. couple this with both mccain's experience with keating and his wife's continued relationship with keating in the aftermath, mccain's gambling history, palin's ties to the alaskan independent party, ect., and it would seem they have enough bones banging around in their own closet without searching for obama's.

Several issues here!!

This was forced by the democrats in Alaska.

You have a loose cannon running around ex-brother-in law that has made threats to the family. You have the Obama Campaign looking for Mud.. and you cross the two and now you have a black eye. Everyone wanted to (Democrats) get Palin. The trooper should have been removed from any duties for the tasering of his son. Then the threats to his wife are acceptable.

The other rogue... should have been fired anyway.

The issue is TODD running his mouth. Well, Michele has done the same.. and has to be kept on a 'tight reign' But her issues are that she is racist against white America.

If she proves that she was justified in the firing by the personnel board .. then
so be it.

Question did SHE MIS-USE her power.

It is a waste of time to talk about Palin - she is unfit to be VP. McCain, by choosing her, shows a strong lack of judgement. McCain also has behaved erratically without any principle and has now started on a 'swiftboat' style attack. Hopefully, the voters sort through this and end the 8 year old republican mess.

In our last episode, we saw the indomitable, impulsive duo suspend the campaign to take on the Crisis on Wall Street! Now, watch, as, in our next episode...McCain Goes Negative!

McCain paces the floor in the Fortress of Irritability. He is cracking walnuts.

A walnut slips to the floor.

McCain: Damn nutcracker!

Sarah Palin is sitting in a chair at a desk. She is writing on a piece of paper: "J.M + S.P." This is then crossed out and replaced by "S.P. + J.M.". These alternating versions , the one before it always crossed out, continues down the page.

McCain: Well, the first plan didn't work. We tried to put them in a trance with the folksy ray, but they had their deflectors halfway raised. If only you hadn't called the commander in Afghanistan "McClellan"

Palin: But...didn't you say they were fighting a civil war, Sir?

McCain looks at Palin silently. He is smiling but he is holding back anger.

McCain: I think the time has come. We have to call in...Dr. Negative.

He pushes a large black button, which is the only button, on a red phone on his desk.

Dr. Negative immediately bursts through the door. He is carrying flyers, masking tape; telephone wires are wrapped around his arms hanging in every way; a tattered copy of the book "Accusations of Fascism, Communism, Terrorism, Drug Use, Pedophilia, Islamism, Adultery, Pandeism, Cannibalism, Cubism, Miscegenation, and Spousal Abuse...for Dummies!" is rolled and stuffed in his left pocket, filled with bookmarks; he is dragging a Robocaller behind him, leashed to a chain.

Dr. Negative (quickly, eagerly): Did you hear? Obama was born in Bin Laden's subterranean bomb making factory, outside of U.S. lines. He was born on a pile of cocaine and dynamite--and the midwife was a Trotskyite!

McCain: Not yet, Dr. Negative. I want you to meet Sarah.

Sarah: Oh, we've already met.

Dr. Negative: That trooper went down! He poisoned the salmon milk at the Wasilla Bible school! With drugs made at a Leftist Satan worshiping collective! That you could see from Russia!

Sarah: You betcha'!

Sarah and Dr. Negative give each other a high five. Dr. Negative's telephone wires rattle on his arm as he does so, triggering the Robocaller, which starts playing "...illegitimate babies made in test tube factories in North Korea and sent to Chicago by Bill Ayers..."

Dr. Negative shuts off the Robocaller with an embarassed smile.

Dr. Negative: Just practicing.

There is a pause.

McCain: That's fine, Dr. Negative. That's fine. Because, now, I have a special job for you. An important one.

Dr. Negative leaps into the air with excited glee. As he does, detritus falls to the floor--buttons reading "Election Day: Remember, the 3rd Tuesday in November!", business cards, reading "Push Polls Anonymous--We Call, They Fall", "Mongers On Call-No Rumor Too Far fetched"; Bandaids with purple hearts; mangled and dirty chads.

Dr. Negative: A new job! A special job! Oh, Mr. McCain! I'm ready! I'm ready!

Sarah watches from her chair, filing her nails.

McCain: Now, Dr. Negative. You have to make him seem radical...

Dr. Negative quickly pulls a can out of his right pocket, emblazoned with the word "Radical" He opens the top. Red and Black snakes fly out.

Dr. Negative: (eagerly, expectantly, hungrily) Yes...Yes...

McCain: You'll have to start rumors that are so inflammatory that they will spread like wildfire, and that will be started too late to stop them with the actual truth...

Dr. Negative pulls a gigantic grinder out of his left pocket. It is labeled "Rumor Mill". He turns the crank a few times. Hamsters, syringes, and Peace symbols fly out.

Dr. Negative: Yes...Yes...

He is salivating.

McCain: They will have to be so incredible, so over-the-top, based on such tawdry and poorly sourced evidence, yet riddled with tempting minutia--bullet gauges, Google maps of supposed meetings and the like, that the right will eat them up, and start analyzing the minutia with adolescent glee.

Dr. Negative (Very calmly, matter of fact): Oh, that's easy. They'll eat anything.

Dr. Negative reaches into his back pocket, pulls out a manila envelope labeled "Minutia: So-called "Proof" for the Right". He empties it to the floor. Bullet gauge measures, outdated copies of Photoshop, paperbacks entitled "How to Use the Insane as Competent Witnesses", "The Faked Moon Landings! Roswell! And Other Believable Phenomena!" and "You TOO Can Be A Warrior--From Your Own Couch!" fall to the floor.

Sarah plucks out the "Faked Moon Landings" book. She starts reading.

McCain: We know how our girl loves to read.

Sarah stops, and begins fixing her hair in a hand mirror.

Now, Dr. Negative, there is one final task.

Dr. Negative: Yes, Mr. McCain?

McCain: It is very difficult. Very...dark.

Dr. Negative: (Leaning forward expectantly, his voice quivering with excitement): Yes, Mr. McCain, Yes?

McCain: You will have to play the card that they played against me. Do you understand?

The room becomes silent. Sarah stops looking at herself, and looks towards the center of the room where McCain and Dr. Negative are staring at each other.

Dr. Negative: You mean...(eyes widened with disbelief. His telephone wires are quietly shaking as he shivers).

McCain (nodding): Yes.

Dr. Negative slowly removes from his jacket pocket what seems to be an ordinary pack of playing cards. They are labeled "Joker" brand. He takes a penknife from his pocket, and slowly slices the covering cellophane. There is a slight and distant roar. He looks at McCain.

McCain nods.

Dr. Negative then slowly removes the red ribbon encircling the cellophane at the top of the pack. He inserts the penknife--holding it from it very farthest end--and flips open the top of the pack.

Smoke begins to pour from the top of the pack, thick, acrid smoke. It quickly fills the room, covering all that is in sight.

McCain (shouting amidst the sound of smoke rushing into the room): And remember--no fingerprints!

Next episode: The smoke is cleared.

The really scary part about this report is the role of Todd Palin and his extream control this unelected person has over the powers of the office. Do we really want the First Dude who was a member of a radical right wing party for ten years only a heartbeat away from the President. Todd's membership that only ended in 2002 a party that hates the US Government is truly scary.

If the Republicans want to put a positive spin on this they could say:

“Palin achieved in less than two years what has taken other politicians decades to achieve.”

Heck, she even beat John McCain's impressive record as it took him 5 years to get caught up in the Keating scandal. Republicans can try to spin this whichever they want. However, the bold headlines all across America read “ETHICS PROBE FINDS PALIN ABUSED POWERS”. This is what is going to stick in the mind of voters. And dancing around the report with lame excuses is self defeating because it will just keep the story in the news longer.

The McCain campaign is in a smoking tailspin and there's no ejection seat.

When the history of campaign 2008 is written, it will show that John McCain lost the election the day he allowed Karl Rove wannabe Steve Schmidt to be imposed upon him. From that day forward it was not John McCain running for President. It was Steve Schmidt. Having sold his soul, it was easy for McCain to agree to Neo-Christian Sarah Palin as his VP. That bizarre decision left McCain's hard earned honor in shreds and his credibility as an independent man went with his honor.
If the campaign had been run competently, this might have been overcome. But inconsistent messaging, poor resource decisions and fiascos such as the "campaign suspension" (the only thing skipped was the Letterman appearance) showed how bad the campaign management really was.
It is a sad ending to a noble story. John McCain will be remembered for this, the worst period of his life, not for the greatness he showed so many times.

SO it'ds what we all expected, she probably crossed the line, especially with letting her HUSBAND use the governers office. What's that all about? Doesn't he have his own job? I didn't know he was officially "assistant" to the governor opf Alaska. What a cool job!

Apparently the Alaskan newspapers say that she never has liked people sniffing around her business. She must really think it's cool to be above the common citizen (sound familiar George and Dick?).

Obama and Biden will say NOTHING about this on the stump, because it will kill McCain's campaign all by itself. McCain will be back-pedalling for a week at least while no one else will care. They just lost the swing for good. We knew this was going to happen to her she skirted the edge and got caught a little. Oops!. Oh yeah, she wanted it investigated by people she selected for a committee, that wouldn't be biased would it? "Make it turn out how I say or I will fire you too!"

Palin Probe Concludes

Palin needs to grasp reality befcause she is so appalling . She is so embarassing and show no respect for herself, her family, real woman of power and the American people. Americans have pride and are proud of their country, we needs a leader that displays such qualities of good faith and one that can lead us and our future generations away from such chaos of the past. Reasons of this scenario adds to why America are experiencing such hard times. We the people of America needs to turn from our evil ways that our land may be healed. Abuse of anything is no good. Her demeanor in my opinion had already concluded that she was guilty of abusing her power in connection with her ex-brother-in-law. It don't take a rocket scientist to see through Palin's demeanor. This report came from a Republican, retired prosecutor Steve Branchflower, and the committee consisted 11 to 4 of Republicans. Would it have to be 100% Republican for the McCain-Palin campaign to declare it "nonpartisan"?

They claim it matters that the director of the committee, Sen. Hollis French, is a Democrat. Are they saying that the Republicans on the committee are such wusses that they cowed down to a single Democrat?

What can you say?
She's guilty and that's a fact.
This has nothing to do with a democratic witch hunt. It's the legal process of an investigation that was in the making before the general election began.
All you had to do was listen at the way she responded from the begining of the probe.
Sarah is no longer a problem now. She needs to focus on salvaging her political career. She needs to be careful not to lie before a grand jury.
The fact that her husband had the amount of access to use of the governors office is bad enough.
I think McCain is now scratching his head as what to do. Now that Sarah has him backed in a corner, I do believe within the next few days he's going to be forced to remove her from the ticket.
However being the kind of gambler that Sen. McCain is, I'm sure he'll press forward with the ticket as is.

As conservative columnist David Brooks recently said, “[Sarah Palin] represents a fatal cancer to the Republican party.” One can understand why Republicans like Rep. Tom Davis, a respected fiscal conservative, are expressing so much cynicism about the direction of their party. There was no shortage of highly qualified conservatives that could have filled the VP slot. And yet McCain picked a complete unknown who was under investigation for abuse of power. McCain is now paying the price for his poor and erratic decision making.

It's worth your time to visit www.adn.com and read the report. It reveals an obsessiveness and lack of discretion that is really astonishing. I mean, when you've taken your shot, the process has run its course, the verdict is in and the penalties have been assessed, you've got to let it go. Over two years later, the Palins were still at it, stalking the guy, reporting every trivial potential infraction they could find.

Especially worthwhile is the judge's opinion in the divorce hearing that started all of this (p. 53 of report). In the fall of 2005, in his oral statement of judgment, he explicitly noted the active determination of the McCann/Palin family to have the trooper dismissed from his job, and it played into his decision, but in a very ironic way. Wooten wanted a 50/50 split on child support; Palin's sister wanted 55/45. But by putting Wooten's job in danger, they shot themselves in the foot. The judge concluded that in light of the proceedings initiated against Wooten as part of a resolute campaign to have him fired, his future earnings were not reliable enough to sustain the 55/45 request, so he found for Wooten & 50/50. It must have been an especially galling decision for the Palins--just the sort of thing that drives a vindictive person to the edge.

The trouble with Sara Palin is that she is a nice looking lady with great legs and the rest of her ain't bad either. However the same can be said about ten million other American ladies in their mid forties, all of whom are just as qualified as Sara Palin to be VP of the United States. Small town political hack in way over her head.

We only saw the PUBLIC portion of the report. The whole report is over 1000 pages long....this thing isn't over. Sarah refused to provide PUBLIC documents and information to the investigators.

This Palin woman is very dangerous. She is a FAR RIGHT extremist with ties to white supremacy groups. We will be hearing more about this in the days to come, I promise.

For those of you who don't know, there are many areas of the Pacific Northwest that white supremacy groups are tied to. I know because I live in Montana. They frequently show up in our towns plastering racist hate propaganda on people's doors. They get run out of town pretty fast! They are NOT welcome.

Sarah went to (one) college in Northern Idaho, very near a white supremacist enclave.

Here's an interesting piece of investigative journalism about Palin's ties to the AIP. She had closer ties to them than she previously admitted. Talk about a LIAR! And a HYPOCRITE!

She accuses Obama of having ties to Ayers, yet her ties are FAR worse.

This was an ethics violation, and regardless of your candidate, it isn't good. Very sad. McCain made a very poor choice when he chose this running mate. Who will trust her now? It just isn't good.

Perhaps she could leave as a sort of political martyr.

Obama and his cronies whip up this fake scandal to embarrass Palin. So that Obama is not successful, she leaves the ticket. McCain picks Lieberman or Romney. The far rights still adore McCain for bringing her to the forefront and knew he did what he had to. Moderates are attracted to someone who made the bipartisan choice in Lieberman or a financial expert in Romney. Palin can even continue to stump for McCain.

The guy has tried pretty much every single stunt there is. Why not this one?

The current conventional wisdom for PR for this sort of thing is simple:

Lie through your teeth. Big, obvious lies. Your base will believe them regardless. The other side was never going to believe you anyway. And the middle will forget just as soon as a new headline pushes it off the front page.

W and Clinton have spent 16 years proving this over and over.

Love how a 400 page report does not recommend any solution. If she was really guilty as charged, why don't they indict her? Smells like a 'rats report especially with the timing of it. They typed up this big old report and only find that she abused her power by not really abusing her power, but by not doing anything. What a joke.

She can be impeached for Abuse of Power.

You know it's not up to the Legislative committee to decide if she is punished for her ethics violation. The Alaska constitution requires that any Governor holding office that gains for personal reasons must be immediately impeached.

The facts:

The Alaskan Legislative Council that ordered the investigation consisted of

10 (ten) Republicans
4 (four) Democrats

This bi-partisan council appointed a Democrat to head up the investigation, which is why the McCain spin machine is saying it was led by "partisan Obama supporters".

Hmmm, let's play prophet for a second....

John McCain always wanted to run this race with his best pal, Joe Lieberman.

The right-wing conservative base told him they would bolt if he did so.

He had no choice but to select Palin, or an equivalent, suitable to the evangelical wing.

But now, Mr. McCain has looked in the mirror. His behavior today, in the wake of alarming comments by his supporters, seemed to indicate that he is aware the whole thing has gotten way out of hand.

Further, he looks at the polls and knows that he is going to lose...especially with the ticket staying intact.

The McCain people then tell Ms. Palin, she needs to resign and say it is so as not to provide a distraction for John McCain, in his quest for the presidency.

McCain, knowing he is going to lose, replaces Palin with Lieberman.

The social conservatives skewer McCain and he loses anyway.

But, in the end, he gets back at least a little bit of his integrity.

As odd as it sounds, my money is on that scenario.

Man, I hate to say it but I don't know if this is going to make a dent in some of those hard-headed Palin supporters.

I've been watching some of the videos of her crowds. They're just a bunch of dumb white people!! A sea of dumb white people!

And I'm as white as they come, so I DO have the right to SAY that!! It makes me sort of embarrassed to BE white, actually.

I need to lose some weight, so at least I won't be white and FAT. Sheesh.

Oh, and Chris, there are two new investigations of Palin under way. One is state and the other federal, both of which involve her in accepting and *soliciting* bribes as an elected official. The state investigation also involves her husband.

This just keeps getting better and and better. Yet, the hysterical racists and domestic terrorists that are her mob, those many calling for the killing of blacks and liberals and other "socialists", her following, are allowed to walk around free, many if them armed? Now, and i mean right now, the FBI ad the Secret Service needs to take John McCain aside and tell him what sort of lunatic he has hitched is wagon to.

Then, McCain needs to publicly demand her resignation and he needs to replace her with someone rational like Romney. Now, I don't much like Romney's politics, but no one can accuse him of being a racist and I don't think he has ever accepted a bribe, much less pursued them. Then, disband your campaign, think about what is best for the country (hint: dump the NeoCon's and lets have the old genuine maverick back), limit your campaign to a series of fireside chats with explicit and clear proposals that help the people, repair the economic damage done by unfettered free trade and NeoCon delussions, nd act like a statesman. KOZ, I'm a Democrat, and I can see that as the only path McCain has to redemption, much less any sort of victory. He's your guy, go reason with him!

Should anyone be shocked? Abuse of power is the norm for many less than competent people in power positions of responsibility. Management in corporate America is loaded with these types and it seems almost impossible to change that because they usually protect one another or there is too much fear in subordinate ranks to have serious challenge to it while the abuse is happening.

I can't see how they can successfully blame Democrats and/or Obama's campaign for this investigation and findings. This kind of abuse isn't apparent to a neophyte ascending the ladders of power until they have broken something, an alaskan statute in this case. IIRC, she had to take an oath of office to uphold the laws the the land, etc. Well, she failed to. That's her own fault. Being caught at it, well that's the beauty of America, free to break laws, free to be caught and punished. I wonder if any censure will come of it. It's not going to be something undecided voters, those John McCain is trying to court, are likely to be forgiving about.

As a faithful Republican, I can honestly say that for America's safety sake, Obama should win. Why? Because this country will be split into 2 Americas, not John Edwards' Rich and Poor America but Black and White Americas. The way the MSM has put Obama already in the White House and how they have nothing positive to write about Republicans is very dangerous. If McCain should win, I am going nowhere on November 5th because there will be riots all over this country.

I also would like these Liberal Democrats to get a taste of their own medicine. They will hate Obama and his cronies in the next four years they will have wished they put McCain in the White House. The Democrats will build the biggest government this country has ever seen and the economy will be no better than it is today.

2. She is kept hidden from the press

3. Than her selected interviews – SNL tells it best

4. She debates Biden – I think

5. After the debate, McCain camp says no more interviews

6. Now the Troopergate report (think McCain will let her do any interviews)

No, no, no, no. Palin should NOT step down as the VP candidate. She is the 'gift that keeps on giving'. We need her to insure a victory for Obama.

The republicans will now have a tough time pointing the "character" finger at Obama. And, with the revelation that Cindy McCain continued her business partnership with convicted felon Keating for 11 years after he went to prison, this will sink the McCain presidency bid for sure.

This looks like a pointless distraction, a waste of money and totaly meaningless. The findings say that her family feud with the state trooper entered into her judgement but was not the only reason the Public Safety Commissioner was fired. Sounds like double talk to me. If she had other reasons for firing him and she did nothing illegal, then what did she do wrong? It sounds like a no win situation for her.

The "strong offense is the best defense" strategy isn't working for the GOP this year, and this report is another body blow to their campaign.

Americans of all affiliations are fed up with the abuse of power at the highest levels, which we've had to endure since 2000. We're hardly likely to embrace a politician now under this kind of a cloud, when she's already made clear that she would press to expand the power of the vice-presidency even beyond what Cheney's done!

McCain has never wholeheartedly embraced the culture wars, which has cost him the fervent support of that wing of the GOP. Palin was the intended solution to that shortcoming, a strategy that now reveals one of these two things:

1) "Maverick" McCain himself chose Palin, which is a useful indicator of the unsatisfactory quality of his political and administrative judgment; or

2) McCain's handlers chose Palin, overruling his sentimental choice Lieberman, and demonstrating that McCain is actually just as much a meat-puppet as Dubya has been.

It's satisfying to see that at long last it's the Republicans, rather than the Dems, who are shooting themselves in the feet.

Gov. Palin gets a demerit and lets move on. Her crime isn't close in severity to those of Senator Stevens, or even that young Democratic punk who hacked into Gov. Palin's e-mail. Both those crimes deserve more public consideration, but later. We are on the verge of legitimate comparisions with the Panic of 1893. I want my candidates to stay focused on understanding the economics of this unfolding catastrophe.

If I were in the Obama campaign I would leave this one alone.

It still comes down to a family doing their best to take down an ass. I don't think anyone has come to the defense of this former brother-in-law. Regardless of the firing of the Public Commissioner, it could be seen that Commissioner was, as is often said, "Out of touch."

If the reports of the trooper's abuse are true in any way, I find it hard to believe that even the most ardent liberal with a family would not have done the same.

Doesn't make it right... but makes it politically dicey to attack.

Governor Palin will now have to step down from the ticket. There is no other choice to consider. And Palin needs to do what's right and make this easy for Sen. McCain. Let's keep things in the larger context: Senator McCain in 72 years old and he needs a plausible running mate. Governor Palin now has a huge ethical cloud hanging over her. The nation is facing an historic economic crisis, on top of two overseas wars. This is no time for yet another crisis. Even Agnew had to be shepherded out the door in 1973 prior to Watergate exploding. McCain had plenty of talented people on his shortlist (Pawlenty, Romney, Huckabee) prior to making this risky and unvetted choice. He needs to step up now and truly put "country first."
