SNL Swipes at McCain (Again)

For the second straight week, "Saturday Night Live" used its huge platform to take a shot at the presidential campaign of John McCain.

Last week, Tina Fey delivered a spot-on (and not terribly flattering) send-up of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. This week, McCain himself is in the spotlight for a wicked spoof (conceived by former SNL star and now Minnesota Senate candidate Al Franken) on his campaign's negative ad.

The skit has it all -- from McCain's "my friends" verbal tic to his unfamiliarity with "new" technology like digital recording to his seeming confusion with his own negative ads.

Don't laugh. "SNL" has already shown an ability to influence the political campaigns this year; Amy Poehler's (generally) sympathetic portrayal of Hillary Rodham Clinton during the spring was seen as a factor in the re-rise of the New York Senator's candidacy.

You say Obama is "another cerebral airhead.." Exctly WHY is it that Republicans insist on STUPID Presidents? Bush has embarrassed us for 8 years - Isn't that enough??
Obama worked very hard to become that cerebral - Harvard is not exactly a haven for African Americans and yet he became the first "black" President of the law review. Yeah - he's an airhead. And by the way, he's mixed race - just like about 22% of the country. Get used to it.
And John McCain? He's a good old WHITE (very very very white) boy - just like Bush. Except Bush was a C student and McCain didn't even do that well because he says he was "rebellious."
But since he hasn't seemed to learn much since, except what he somehow KNOWS; "I can fix the economy, I know how to fix the economy" or "I can win this war, I know how to win wars."
Okay John, why haven't you? You've been in there for 26 years and...we're at war, aren't we? If you know how to "win" - well, at least explain what "winning" or as you call it "victory" in Iraq looks like.
McCain is losing what is left of his marbles and you want him to run our country at a time in history when we are on the brink of losing our place in a global economy?
Hey - even I'M too cerebral to buy that!!
It's the 21st Century - wake up!

*******************************************Michael - you think socialism sucks? Ever lived in a socilaized country? Like Denmark - according to news reports "the happiest place on Earth."?
And what IS socialism, Mikey? Is it like when the government buys up the financial industry...with our tax dollars and without our permission? No wait - that's more like communism. Hmm.
Apparently we can't afford Capitalism any more - so socilaism is looking better than just about anything else. Free college, free health care, and my friend's elderly mom there is visted by a nurse at her home - three times a week - for free. Yeah - sounds like hell, doesn't it?
America Rocks...er, I mean rules..no wait, America is better than you are.

The skit exaggerated the racism in the McCain campaign. There will certainly be a Bradley effect in the election, but that won't be due to McCain's ads. However, the tax-cuts for pedophiles line was a direct hit against the ridiculous ad that states that Obama wants to teach sex-ed to kindergarteners, a ridiculous statement. The McCain camp is certainly guilty of using children to vilify their opponent.

It also highlighted (accurately in my opinion) McCain's geriatric understanding of technology, which is only shooing more and more young people into the Obama camp. When I walk into the Obama headquarters, there's an incredible imbalance of young to older people that is far greater than would be expected in a usual election cycle, and ultimately, that imbalance might cost McCain the election.

I have been making a study of the political strategy of Barack Obama for the past two years. I have read his two books and have noted every article by journalists. I have just returned from a month in USA where I more closely observed his campaign. He has totally rewritten the strategy of successfully campaigning for elections.

In spite a racist attack because of his father being black, and a stupid campaign to try to paint him as a Muslim instead of being a committed Christian, and an accusation that his name is like that of Osama Bin Laden, he has grown strong in every election. Those attacks tell us more about the mental state of those making them than of Obama personally. His strategy will be studied in every forthcoming election.

An innovative strategy. Barack Obama in the earliest days when standing against the heavily cashed up Hilary Clinton, said, "We're up against the most formidable team in 25 years, but we've got a plan, and we've got to have faith in it." More than eleven months later, that faith has been rewarded.... .......

Does the Press Indeed Fear McCain and the Rebushagain Party?
As you will note in almost every POST, one question I continuously ask myself is this, "why does the press suppress the TRUTH about John McCain and not report on it? Why is the press that he receives almost 70% positive or apologetic or advice for him, when in fact the things that he does are not very positive at all. His stances against a woman's right to choose, his desire to overturn Roe vs Wade, his desire and agreement with conservative talker Michael Medved on doing away with the Department of Education, doing away with the Department of agriculture, (side note:

Republican presidential candidate John McCain opposes the $300 billion farm bill and subsidies for ethanol, positions that both supporters and opponents say might cost him votes he needs in the upper Midwest this November. His Democratic rival, Barack Obama, is making a more traditional regional pitch: He favors the farm bill approved by Congress this year and subsidies for the Midwest-based ethanol industry. McCain instead has promised to open new markets abroad for farmers to export their commodities. In his position papers, McCain opposes farm subsidies only for those with incomes of more than $250,000 and a net worth above $2 million. But he’s gone further on the stump.“I don’t support agricultural subsidies no matter where they are,” McCain said at a recent appearance in Wisconsin. “The farm bill, $300 billion, is something America simply can’t afford.”...side note ends)

Which is definitely a sign that he does desire to get rid of the Department of Agriculture. He opposes $300 million dollars for American agriculture needs, yet from day one he has supported this quagmire and occupation of Iraq. I'm definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I'm far from the dullest. He stated that it was really those farmers with $250,000 dollars of earnings or with farms worth over 2 million dollars, yet, he wants to make the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% permanent. So on the one hand if they are rich farmers give them no tax breaks but on the other hand if they are rich business owners (corporate) give them tax breaks? That's a tad confusing wouldn't you say? A sort of speaking out of both sides of the mouth or speaking with a forked tongue, if you will....This just more evidence that as Senator Kerry put it at the Democratic National Convention that, "Candidate McCain needs to finish the debate with Senator McCain,"...John McCain needs to finish the debate with him self. McCain is 2 faced.

McCain also agrees with Michael Medved's idea to get rid of the Department of Health care, Isn't that special? Problem with all these facts you will not hear a peep about in the press. Just as the Corporate Media kept it silent when it was discovered that Senator McCain's Campaign begin sending out millions of absentee ballots to guess who? Barack Obama supporters. This storey surfaced the first week of September and was first reported by a stand-in on the Tom Hartman show on Green960, the following day Newsweek reported it.

Here is an article the mainstream press refused to touch...

McCain's Absentee Ballot Mailer Fiasco Spreads - Could Disqualify Some Voters
Reports from around the country advise that John McCain's campaign has sent confusing or incorrect absentee ballot request forms to voters in ten states at least. Affected so far are Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon (reported by blogger, not confirmed) Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin so far. In each state, the mailers have a different error, in any of these cases, the voter could be disenfranchised by the error. In at least one state a voter could disqualify themselves or be vulnerable to election challenges if they mailed these forms in. Mailers sent to Wisconsin voters are encouraging voters to send their applications to clerks in communities where they do not live. If you receive an absentee ballot request form from the McCain campaign ( or any private entity) and you do want to vote absentee, then instead check with your County Board of Elections to get the correct information.

Fraudulent Absentee Ballot Requests in Iowa? by mshakir1 Fri Sep 12, 2008 (blog, not confirmed independently)

Several days ago, I received an interesting piece of mail from John McCain 2008. It was a vote-by-mail application, which I thought was curious because I have never registered as a Republican or donated money to his campaign...After opening the application placard, I noticed that the application was asking for the usual info (name, address, date of birth, etc.), but was unusual was what else it was asking for.

At the bottom of the application, there were 3 check boxes that could be filled out, any one of which could serve to prove one's identity. One of the check boxes was for an OHIO driver's license number. This was curious for me, because as you have probably guessed by now, I live in IOWA. Then I looked at the back of the application card, and the mailing address was for the Director of the board of elections in Columbus, OHIO.

Michigan.

Although many other states have moved to give voters the right to cast their ballots in advance of Election Day, either in person or by mail, there is no provision for it under Pennsylvania law.

...An absentee ballot cast under improper circumstances — by someone who just didn’t want to be bothered to leave the house, for instance — could be subject to challenge and disqualification, she said.

"Why is a Republican, Democrat, anybody sending out an unsolicited request?" wonders Murdock.

McCain's mailer creates controversy By MARK PITSCH 608-252-6145 FRI., SEP 12, 2008 mpitsch@madison.com

The state elections agency is investigating complaints about a massive campaign mailing Republican Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign has directed toward Wisconsin Democrats and other voters.

... in some cases, the incorrect clerk's address is printed on the application, leading some Democrats to wonder if the Arizona senator's campaign is deliberately trying to get them to apply for absentee ballots in places where they aren't eligible to vote.

"They're trying to knock me off the rolls," said Democrat Beverly Jambois, of Middleton. "I can't tell you how upsetting it is to me. This is how you win elections? By disenfranchising other voters?"

Her household received the flier this week addressed to her husband, Robert, a lawyer for the state Department of Transportation. The couple are registered to vote in Middleton, but the absentee ballot application was addressed to the city clerk's office in Madison....

A Wisconsin paper calls upon McCain campaign to set things right:

McCain camp must resolve mailing fiasco The Capital Times. An editorial — 9/15/2008

When it comes to the right to vote, it is not enough after a dramatically inappropriate move to say, "Oops."

The campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain has dispatched a mass mailing to Wisconsin voters -- including many Democrats and liberals who are not likely to be McCain backers -- that encourages eligible voters to send their applications for absentee ballots to clerks in communities where they do not reside.

Following the instructions of the McCain mailing could lead voters to run afoul of election rules and regulations -- and that might lead to the disqualification or even the prosecution of an innocent citizen for supposed wrongdoing.

UPDATE at 9:12 pm CDT September 15, 2008

State Republican Mailer Under Fire As Unfair Confusion Tactic Mailer Directs Voters To Return Absentee Ballot To Wrong Address

MADISON, Wis. -- Absentee ballot mailers are under fire from Democrats.
Democrats believe a mistake by the Republican Party could be an effort to mislead or even disenfranchise voters. More than a 100,000 mailers from the John McCain campaign were sent out with an application for an absentee ballot. The problem is that the mailers were sent to a particular address, but if the voters returned the application it was addressed to another city.

The state Republican Party called it an honest mistake......YEAH RIGHT, and John McCain's PROPAGANDA ADS are honest mistakes right? 26 honest mistakes in a row, WOW, either McCain and his camp are suffering from a group experienced bout of dementia and Alzheimer's or THEY ARE CROOKS AND LIARS. Yet the press refuses too report these huge stories that reveal the BASE CONNIVING and SCHEMING character of Candidate McCain. They keep it covered up.

THIS WAS AN OBVIOUS ATTEMPT BY THE MCSHAME CAMPAIGN OF DIRTY TRICKS AND THE POLITICS OF REVIVING JIM CROW VOTING PRATICES......The Corporate Media remains silent on this fact......

Media Matters reported Friday September 19, this piece about the press and it's fear of McCain....

Despite attacks on media by McCain campaign, case studies show disparate coverage in McCain's favor

Summary: The media have for months reported complaints by the McCain campaign that they have favored his opponent in their coverage of the presidential race, while making little attempt to assess the accuracy of those complaints or to confirm or refute them. But in a review of the media's coverage of two stories negatively affecting or reflecting on Sen. Barack Obama and two stories negatively affecting or reflecting on Sen. John McCain -- specifically Obama's ties to Bill Ayers and Antoin Rezko, and McCain's dealings with donors whom he reportedly benefited and his association with G. Gordon Liddy -- Media Matters found that the five major newspapers and the three evening network news broadcasts have frequently mentioned Obama's ties to Ayers and Rezko, but have rarely mentioned McCain's dealings with donors and have ignored his association with Liddy.

Here's one more.....

CBS' Reid aired McCain attacking Obama for purportedly being in the "Washington culture of lobbying" without noting McCain's own lobbying ties

Summary: On the CBS Evening News, Chip Reid uncritically aired video of Sen. John McCain claiming that the "crisis on Wall Street, my friends, started in the Washington culture of lobbying and influence-peddling, and [Sen. Barack Obama] was right square in the middle of it." However, Reid did not mention McCain's own ties to the "Washington culture of lobbying." According to a Mother Jones report, "at least 83" McCain aides, policy advisers, or fundraisers "have in recent years lobbied for the financial industry McCain now attacks."

Here's just one more example....

Jameson Foser exposed how the CORPORATE BLATANTLY LIES AND EVEN AIDS MCCAIN INB HIS LIES BY OUTRIGHT ATTACKS ON SENATOR OBAMA

The media's counterproductive focus on negative campaigning

It's getting awfully hard to pick up a newspaper or turn on the television without seeing a news report about the presidential campaign turning negative. It often seems the media consider the tone of the campaign more important than the collapsing economy, the war, our continued failure to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, and the Bush administration's apparent disdain for the Constitution -- combined.

Before we go any further, let me be clear: I'm not saying that negative campaigning isn't as bad as the media makes it out to be.

I'm saying negative campaigning is essential to American democracy.

See, for voters to make good decisions, they have to have good information. And, unfortunately, candidates aren't in the habit of telling voters things they've done (or plan to do) that are unpopular, or of running ads about the flaws in their own proposals. And since voters need to know the candidates' weaknesses as well as their strengths, and the disadvantages to their proposals, they need somebody to talk about those things.

Oh, sure, we could rely on the media to do that. How have they been doing lately? Anybody think they did a good job of assessing the candidates' relative weaknesses in 2000? Of poking holes in the Bush administration's tragically flawed arguments for the Iraq war? Of putting down the doughnuts and barbecued ribs long enough to pin John McCain down on how long he's willing to keep fighting in Iraq, what, exactly, he plans on doing to Social Security, how he would pay for his tax cuts and wars, or how much you have to make in order for him to consider you "rich"?

Anyone who thinks we can rely on the media to tell us what the candidates don't want us to know should head over to the Swampland blog, where Time reporter Michael Scherer insists that it is unfair to bring up John McCain's lengthy history of voting and speaking in favor of Social Security privatization. Scherer says we should instead simply look at the position statements on McCain's campaign Web page (statements that actually don't provide any reason to think that McCain no longer supports privatization, though Scherer seems to think they do. See my posts on Media Matters' new blog, County Fair, for further explanation.)

So, we need candidates to engage in negative campaigning -- that is, in criticizing their opponents' positions, experience, and previous performance. That's far different from dishonest campaigning. Or from tactics that cross the line from "negative" to downright sleazy. Those tactics should be called out by the news media, and frequently. But the media's reflexive focus on simply "negative" campaigning is unnecessary and often counterproductive.

It is unnecessary because the question of whether a candidate or campaign is "too negative" is a visceral question, not a logical one. Voters don't need reporters to try to measure negativity for them or to keep reminding them of it. If something is too negative for them, voters will have a visceral reaction against it; if not, they won't. Either way, they are perfectly capable of coming to that conclusion on their own. (With the important exception that if a campaign is running a viciously negative below-the-radar campaign, such as a whispering campaign like the one George W. Bush waged against John McCain in 2000, voters can benefit from the media shining a light on those tactics.)

What voters can't easily do on their own is assess whether ads are true, false, or somewhere in between. That's where the media can be useful. They have the resources -- and, ideally, some expertise -- to assess the validity of claims made in campaign ads. That's how reporters can actually be useful -- by doing what the voters can't do for themselves, and doing it well.

Unfortunately, the news media often lump true criticism together with dishonest or sleazy criticism, as though all negative campaigning is equal, and equally bad. This week, a study concluded that a larger percentage of Barack Obama's ads since the political conventions have been "negative," bringing another round of news reports that drew false equivalence between very different tactics.

The Wisconsin Advertising Project looked at a single week's worth of ads in determining that 56 percent of McCain ads and 77 percent of Obama ads were "negative." Aside from the dangers in drawing conclusions from such a small sample of campaign ads, the findings are of limited value given that the project made no effort to assess the veracity or fairness of the ads in question. In fact, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the study counted any ad that so much as mentioned the opponent's name as "negative."

I suppose it might be mildly interesting to know that 56 percent of John McCain's ads mention Barack Obama, or that 77 percent of Obama's ads mention McCain. But it doesn't really tell us anything useful. How did they mention each other? Did the ads criticize policy positions or personality? Were they honest? The answers to those questions are essential to any meaningful assessment of the candidates' campaign tactics. (If you do find the project's findings compelling, you should keep in mind that in July, based on a much larger sample, the project found that more of McCain's ads were negative.)

Despite the study's failure to even attempt to assess the validity of the ads it declared "negative," several news organizations hyped the findings. Worse, some suggested the finding that more of Obama's ads have been negative undermines the recent conclusions of many impartial observers that the McCain campaign ads have been more dishonest than those of the Obama campaign.

The New York Post, for example, reported that the results of the study "clash with recent media coverage accusing McCain of distorting Obama's record in ads." Nonsense. That's like saying that the fact that this is September clashes with the fact that it is Friday.

On Hardball, MSNBC's Chris Matthews also touted the study:

The McCain camp's been getting a lot of attention for some recent hard-hitting ads. In fact, the Wisconsin Advertising Project, a group that studies politics ads nationwide, deems that 56 percent of the ads aired by the McCain campaign last week were negative. That's 56 percent of McCain's ads, negative.

But here's a number that may surprise you. How many of Obama's ads in that same time period last week were negative? Seventy-seven percent -- an indication, perhaps, that Obama intends to come out swinging -- or these are the next couple months. He's going to be doing it. Nearly four out of five ads Obama aired last week were negative -- tonight's "Big Number."

But the more significant "attention" McCain has been getting has not been for negative ads -- it has been for false ads. Matthews disappears that criticism, suggesting that the criticism of McCain has been for negativity rather than dishonesty.

On Race to the White House, Matthews' colleague David Gregory said, "Obama says he wants a new kind of politics. Why is he running more negative ads than Senator McCain?" Later, Gregory played an Obama ad accusing McCain of dishonest attack ads -- but look at how Gregory characterized the Obama ad:

GREGORY: That is a new campaign ad from the Obama campaign. It is out this week, taking a swipe at John McCain for his negative ads. Take a look at this, a new study from the Wisconsin Advertising Project says that it is Obama slinging the most mud on TV; 77 percent of Obama's ads after the GOP convention were negative, compared to 56 percent of McCain's.

No. Obama's ad took a "swipe" at McCain for dishonest ads, not merely for negative ads. By changing Obama's criticism, Gregory was able to use the Wisconsin study to paint him as a hypocrite. And note the phrasing Gregory used to describe the study's findings -- the loaded phrase "it is Obama slinging the most mud on TV." Remember, the study made no effort whatsoever to assess the content of the ads; it simply counted as negative any mention of the opponent's name. On that flimsy basis, Gregory accuses Obama of "slinging the most mud" -- even as the consensus among neutral observers has been that McCain is leveling more false attacks.

Lumping all negative statements together as "slinging mud," without differentiating between true claims and false (or fair and unfair) doesn't inform viewers; it is a false equivalence that serves only to advantage truly dishonorable attacks by making them appear no worse than run-of-the-mill factual criticism. It plays into the hands of liars and smear merchants. And it penalizes honest and fair criticisms -- though such criticisms are essential to the voters' ability to make informed decisions.

What does this say to us about the CORRUPT CORPORATE MEDIA? There is obviously an agenda being pursued here...The facts state this, McCain is being aided by a CORPORATE AGENDA WHILE HE STANDS ON THE STUMP and pretends to condemn the very ones who hold his purse strings.

Conclusion, I don't think the media ands the press are afraid of McCain no to the contrary, they have thrown a full throttled support behind, Chris Matthews, David Gregory, The Wisconsin Advertising Project (biased agenda), The New york Post, John McCain and the Rebushagain party give you a full throttled SHOUT of, "THANKS FOR UNABASHEDLY SUPPORTING US"

“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.”

so appropriate that it's scary...

interest in Pegler was revived when Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin quoted him in her acceptance speech at the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. "We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity", she said, a Pegler quote that also appeared in the book "Right From the Beginning" by Pat Buchanan. Rather than acknowledging Pegler by name, Palin merely cites 'a writer'.

Following the Palin acceptance speech New York Times columnist Frank Rich elucidated the political significance of quoting Pegler. Mr. Rich noted that "Pegler was a rabid Joe McCarthyite who loathed F.D.R. and Ike and tirelessly advanced the theory that American Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe ("geese", he called them) were all likely Communists." He pointed out that Palin's use of a quote from "once powerful right-wing Hearst columnist Westbrook Pegler" was intended to send a subtle but unmistakable signal to far right wing supporters.

Also Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. expressed outrage about Palin's quoting of Pegler in her speech. Referring to Pegler as a "Fascist writer" and an "avowed racist", he reminded readers of the fact that, when Senator Kennedy considered running for president in 1965, Pegler had expressed hope that 'some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies.

McCain is not a Muslim, but he could very well be "the Manchurian Candidate."

Posted by: Anonymous | September 21, 2008 9:12 PM
-------
COULD BE

For years, the mainstream news media has refused to stop idolizing the so-called straight talking maverick John McCain long enough to question the mental health consequences of the years he spent as a "special" prisoner of the communists in North Vietnam.

McCain, the presumptive Republican candidate for President, who could one day have his finger on the "red button," claims the communists subjected him to 5 ½ years of nonstop indoctrination sessions so intense that he attempted suicide.

Unfortunately for McCain, after his bomber was hit by anti-aircraft fire near Hanoi on October 26, 1967, he parachuted into the hands of an evil communist enemy who 7 years earlier had adopted Soviet methods of prisoner interrogation.

At that time, the Soviets were perfecting techniques designed "to put a man's mind into a fog so that he will mistake what is true for what is untrue, what is right for what is wrong, and come to believe what did not happen actually had happened."

Psychiatric Journals are flush with reports concluding that former POWs may remain entangled in "harsh psychological battles" with themselves for decades after returning home including difficulty in controlling intense emotions such as anger and stress.

In political circles, McCain, sometimes referred to as "insane McCain," is well known for having a "volcanic" temper which his colleagues say often erupts into vulgar language and personal insults.

Democrat Paul Johnson, the former mayor of Phoenix, experienced McCain's in your face temperament up close. "His volatility borders in the area of being unstable," Johnson said. "Before I let this guy put his finger on the button, I would have to give considerable pause."

The Journal of America Medicine reported in an 1996 article that being a former POW is associated with "increased cumulative incidence rates of chronic disorders of the peripheral nervous system, joints, and back and an increased hazard rate of peptic ulcer."

The 71 year-old McCain most certainly suffers pain and the weakening effects of chronic arthritis. He broke both arms when he was forced to eject after his bomber was hit. He says the Vietnamese periodically re-fractured his bones during years of interrogation and torture which rendered him permanently incapable of raising his arms above his head.

McCain has never been publicly vetted about what and how much medications he is taking. Aside from his anger and arthritic pain issues, McCain has had reoccurring bouts of malignant melanoma, a deadly form of cancer that can spread quickly throughout the body.

These facts alone beg the question on how a President McCain, in the absence of his campaign staff handlers, would deal with a snap decision that had to be made "if the White House phone rang at 3 a.m."

McCain's POW experience is unique. His communist captors considered him the "crown prince" of U.S. POWs because his father, Adm. John McCain, was commander of all U.S. forces fighting in Vietnam. Because the communists believed he was from a "royal family" and would when finally released return to the United States to an important military or government job, they held him for two years in "solitary confinement."

In February, Reuters news reported that McCain's former captors are expressing delight in the news of his nomination as Republican party Presidential candidate. "In the past Senator McCain has conducted activities that had a positive impact in bringing the two nations [Vietnam/United States] closer. That is a point that Vietnamese people who follow the current affairs do recognize," said retired North Vietnamese Colonel Nguyen Van Phuong, representing retired and present members of the Vietnamese communist military.

Since McCain was first elected to Congress 1982 (and later to the Senate), he and his staff have expended tens of thousands of hours pushing U.S. legislation favoring communist Vietnam. In 1995, McCain stood with Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. to give President Bill Clinton valuable political cover he needed to disregard the issue of missing U.S. POWs in Vietnam and remove the U.S. trade embargo against Vietnam.

No U.S. POW had any communication with McCain or knew where he was being held during at least 8 to 12 months of McCain's first two years of captivity. He has either been unable or unwilling to account for the months he was missing from the POW system.

Within days of McCain's shoot down and after being told the identity of his famous father, the Vietnamese rushed him to Gai Lam military hospital (U.S. government documents), a medical facility normally unavailable to treat U.S. POWs. McCain was kept at Gai Lam for six weeks under the control of Soviet medical specialist anxious to test the use of their "mind and behavior modification" drugs on such an important prisoner.

McCain said the communists were so effective with their interrogation techniques that he broke on the fourth day after being captured and began cooperating. "Demands for military information were accompanied by threats to terminate my medical treatment if I [McCain] did not cooperate. Eventually, I gave them my ship's name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant." Pages 193-194, Faith of My Fathers, by John McCain.

U.S. intelligence agents concluded in the early 1950s that Soviet intelligence (KGB) agents were experimenting on their prisoners with "mind control" techniques and behavior modification drugs

Allen W. Dulles, the newly confirmed CIA director acknowledged the dilemma in April 1953, when he told a gathering of Princeton alumni that "a sinister battle for men's minds" was underway. The Soviets, Dulles explained "have developed brain perversion techniques, some of which are so subtle and so abhorrent to our way of life that we have recoiled from facing up to them."

During the Cold War, the Soviets and the CIA began competing with secret experiments on prisoners aimed at honing the use of "chemical and biological materials capable of producing human behavioral and physiological changes." The experiments included isolation, sleep deprivation, humiliation, alternating with long hours of interrogation.

Since the Russians and Chinese (and our own CIA) have proven they can in a relative short time alter the basic emotional and behavior patterns of captives, it is fair to assume that McCain's unpredictable and often volatile temperament is directly related to his treatment as a 5 ½ prisoner of the communists.

The American public was first exposed to Soviet "brain perversion techniques" during Korean War when the communists launched a propaganda offensive featuring filmed and recorded testimony of captured U.S. servicemen confessing to war crimes including the use of germ warfare.

By the end of the Korean War, "70 percent of the 7,190 U.S. prisoners held in China had either made confessions or signed petitions calling for an end to the American war effort in Asia. Fifteen percent collaborated fully with the Chinese, and only 5 percent steadfastly resisted."

Military officials were especially alarmed when a significant number of the U.S. prisoners refused to recant their confessions as soon as they returned to the United States.

Beginning in 1960, KGB and Chinese agents directed the Vietnamese in establishing Vietnam's original interrogation guidelines for U.S. prisoners. They suggested interrogation techniques and issued specific intelligence requirements to be extracted during prisoner interrogations.

Official American position on POW confessions was that they were false and forced while privately expressing grave concern that the collaborations proved the communists had developed techniques that could "put a man's mind into a fog."

Psychologist have identified behavior in which a former prisoner emotionally bonds with an abuser as the Stockholm Syndrome. McCain was a strong advocate for prosecuting Bosnian, Yugoslavian and Iraqi war criminals and is adamantly opposed to any form of normalized relation with Cuba until it allows "free elections, human right organizations and a free and independent media."

Yet, McCain has resisted any kind of war crimes investigation of his former Vietnamese torturers. Prosecution and subsequent trials could bring to justice the Vietnamese torturers known by the American POWs as the Bug, Slopehead, the Prick, the Soft Soap Fairy, Rabbit, the Cat, Zorba and many others who were responsible for the murder in North Vietnam of at least 55 U.S. POWs and the brutal torture of hundreds of others.

In November 1991, Tracy Usry, chief investigator of the Minority Staff of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, testified before the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, that the Soviets interrogated U.S. prisoners of war in Vietnam. McCain became outraged, interrupting Usry several times, arguing that "none of the returned U.S. prisoners of war released by Vietnam were ever interrogated by the Soviets."

Former KGB Maj. Gen. Oleg Kalugin testified during the hearings that the KGB did interrogate U.S. POWs in Vietnam. Kalugin stated that one of the POWs worked on by the KGB was a "high-ranking naval officer," who, according to Kalugin, agreed to work with the Soviets upon his repatriation to the United States and has frequently appeared on U.S. television.

Col. Bui Tin, a former Senior Colonel in the North Vietnamese Army, testified on the same day, but after Usry, that because of his high position in the Communist Party during the war he had the authority to "read all documents and secret telegrams from the politburo" pertaining to American prisoners of war. He said that not only did the Soviets interrogate some American prisoners of war, but that they treated the Americans very badly.

McCain stunned onlookers at the hearing when he moved to the witness table and physically embraced Col. Tin as if he was a long, lost brother.

In 1949 Dr. Andrew Salter authored Conditioned Reflex Therapy, a pioneering work in the field of psychoanalysis. Ten years later, as Richard Condon was writing The Manchurian Candidate, he asked Dr. Salter to help "design" the brainwashed character for the book and subsequent movie.

More than 40 years later, in 1992, during the C-SPAN broadcasts of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, Dr. Salter watched the hearings from his New York City apartment. Salter became fascinated with McCain's overly aggressive and angry behavior toward witnesses, especially family members of men still missing in action. After a few hours he called a friend telling her, "the signs are all there, I'm afraid Senator John McCain has been brainwashed."

During the Senate Select hearings, McCain opposed all efforts by the POW/MIA families and activists to have the Select Committee expand its investigation to study how successful the Vietnamese, Soviet, Chinese and Cuban interrogation apparatuses were at exploiting American prisoners of war.

News pundants have elevated McCain to "the most popular national political figure in the country" by repeatedly describing him as a "war hero" based on his refusal accept a communist offer of "early release" from captivity.

What the media has carelessly refused to acknowledge is that the camp's senior ranking U.S. POW (SRO) had issued unquestionable orders that if a POW was to be released, "it would be the longest held prisoner" Because McCain was not the longest held POW, he would have faced a military court-marshal if he had accepted the offer.

It is incumbent upon McCain to prove to the American people that the 5 1/2 years he spent at the mercy of communist interrogators did not leave him with mental health issues that could hinder him in making snap decisions "if the White House phone rang at 3 a.m."

Is McCain taking any kind of pain or "nerve" medicines? If so, do the medicines cause emotional and physical reactions?

McCain was once treated for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which is said to get worse over time for former POWs, what is the status of his treatment?

Does McCain still harbor stress triggered suicidal tendencies?

Where was McCain and what was happening to him during the months he was missing from the POW camp?

McCain implies that he made only one propaganda broadcast for the communists, but Senate Foreign Relations Committee staffers say he made over 30. How many did he make and what did he get in return?

Why does McCain still deny that the Soviets were involved in the interrogation of U.S. POWs in Vietnam?

Does McCain's former interrogators, the communist Vietnamese, Russians, Chinese and Cubans have anything in their secret intelligence files about his behavior as a prisoner with which they could blackmail a President John McCain?

John McCain may love this country.

News Item: "Karzai Agrees To Meet With Palin"

Maybe Karzai can explain a little something to Palin about the reality of countries she cannot see from her back porch!

In her acceptance speech, Sarah Palin approvingly quoted Westbrook Pegler, who among other things was a racist, an anti-semite and a fascist who advocated killing Robert F. Kennedy.

In Spanish, there is a phrase, "To s/he who understands, few words are needed."

Palin's literary choice speaks volumes about why her ignorance does not portend bliss for the American people and their ideals.

In this time of economic turndown, a moment when the search for scapegoats may be just around the corner, it might be wise to remember the words of author Sinclair Lewis, which hopefully will not turn out to be prophetic:

“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.”

Hasn't everyone at one time gone into a small town or a community where people seem bitter, angry or distrustful of strangers. Has anyone ever bothered to see first-hand the poverty and sadness that surround many pockets of our country? It's heartbreaking. Is it really that uncommon for human beings to cling more tightly to their religion when times are difficult? These are facts of life for some. So which is the part that isn't true...the gun part?
Has anyone noticed that our Constitutional rights are being stripped away from us daily, but people are OK with this as long as the 2nd Amendment remains intact?

I guess the truth does hurt sometimes.

You're right to say "don't underestimate the power of SNL". Thanks in part to last week's Palin/Clinton skit the nation is starting to realize how bogus and cynical the McCain/Palin ticket is. Hence the reversal in the polls. Palin has no business whatsoever as vice president and SNL has helped expose that fact big time.

Posted by: John Doug | September 21, 2008 9:26 PM | Report abuse

what he said was true...sometimes the truth hurts...he will never lose PA...never...Philly & Pittsburgh will carry him

“You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them…And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

not as funny as the skit last week, but it's a parody folks - that means its meant to be outlandish.

Frankly, with the ads that McCain (a man I used to deeply respect) has approved in the last few weeks - it's not all that far from the truth.

The biggest mistake Obama made was the "Americans clinging to guns and religion" comment. He actually said people in PA... that comment may cost him PA and therefore the election... don't underestimate the negative effects of those comments. I am sure they will be run over and over again by McCain in Oct, in PA, OH and elsewhere.

Aplogies to Chris for the blatantly off-topic post.

I’ve read many people link today’s situation to 1929. The financial types are all in lather to not make the same mistakes now as then.

One thing that’s not in any of the financial textbooks is the undermining of the nation that took place then. We’ll never know if the coup d’etat of 1934 would’ve actually been successful. It also remains to be seen if the howl of anger over this bailout plan brings us closer to Jeffersons “A little rebellion now and then is a good thing.” or is just venting.

I, for one, find the false choice of “700B or nothing” the same false choice of “Invade Iraq or mushroom cloud”. Given how the latter turned out - if those are my choices, then nothing seems to be the least bad choice.

I think that the last time that the republic was under fundamental stress - with violence in the streets - was during the Vietnam war. I think the underpinnings was conscription, no one could avoid Vietnam. (Imagine how conscription would effect the feelings of the Iraq war today). Given that the bailout would cost every man woman and child in this country $2,100 - and that many people feel powerless to stop their wealth from being conscripted - I wonder how close we are to street protests? Or is it just venting?

Funny how you take away what you want from a skit. I support McCain and don't think this was terribly "biting". Constantly calling McCain "McSame" is a similar tarring by association. That's how the game is played. We all know it. It is doubtful that negative advertisements do anything but suppress vote- they don't change votes, just dampen motivation.

I'm personally not voting for Obama because I think he's another "cerebral" airhead like Jimmy Carter, and will sell us down the river like Carter did. But this skit was not offensive to McCain supporters.

BARACK IS POMPOUS, ELITIST, ARROGANT and out of touch with the heartbeat of middle America.

BARACK'S WORDS ARE EMPTY AND HOLLOW; he talks about the struggles of americans, while he spends $20,000 for each of his children's schooling.

BARACK'S RELIGIOUS LEADER JEREMIAH WRIGHT IS IN HIDING, while waiting to move to his multimillion mansion, built with the blood and tears of the poor people he preaches to.

BARACK IS JUST ANOTHER CORRUPT PRIEST OF FALSEHOOD, NOT THE MESSIAH HE PRETENDS TO BE. He preaches humility and togethernes, but he fractured the democratic party when he chose his inflated ego and rejected Hillary Clinton as VP. This grave mistake has sentenced his campaign to the grave.
On the other side, THE MAVERICK STOLE THE MANTRA OF CHANGE FROM BARACK WHEN HE SELECTED A WOMAN REFORMER FOR VP, who has gained the respect of the State she governs as well as of the nation governors.

THE MCCAIN/PALIN TICKET HAS GIVEN HOPE FOR THE FUTURE OF AMERICA TO ALL THE 18 MILLION FORMER HILLARY SUPPORTERS who now have a very compelling reason to vote for the republican ticket, as a way to put their country first by electing a president that has the qualifications, experience and love for our country and at the same time elect a woman to the White House as equal partners in governance and leadership of our country.

>>"Aspergirl, your point is misleading. That was actually an article from the LA Times that was published."

He "republished" it, is probably a more accurate thing to say, after it appeared in the L.A. Times.

>>"What's funny is how people keep bringing up Rev. Wright. What about Palin's Assembly of God church in Alaska. They are way crazier..."

Well, I think that's debatable based on how comfortable you are with evangelicals versus other church cultures. But after people treated Obama's church so sensitively, it seems intolerant and hypocritical to mock and berate Sarah Palin for hers.

And the material is really, really funny. I've heard that comedians say they don't make fun of Obama because he's not funny, but I don't buy that.

>>"Besides, I think that after 500 years of slavery Black people have earned the right to be as left-wing as they wanna be."

I agree with you. I believe there should be, not reparations but free higher education or job training for black people for at least 2 generations.

But there is great cultural insensitivity directed at the Republican ticket. So laughing down at Sarah Palin for her religion & sexuality and laughing at John McCain for his age, is, well, corrupt and stupid. IMO.

>>"That doesn't mean Obama is. Nothing in his background or policy positions would point to him being a radical. I bet he never even owned a Che T-shirt."

I think his autobiographical writings are more an affectation than a promise that he would stand with Muslims against the rest of America, or that he is truly offended at feeling identified with or integrated with whites.

But if no one is mocking Obama for making those revelations, why mock McCain for saying he's not comfortable with the computer? He has war injuries that makes it hard for him to keyboard.

I suppose my problem is with the double-standards in this election coverage and the media treatment of the candidates.

----------
What about Barack Obama's own writings? Why do the comedians ignore that, if they find such rich humor in the biographical fact that Sarah Palin won a beauty contest for a college scholarship? If you want to make fun of someone's past posturings, why pass up the rich comedic material Obama's autobiographies offer?

If the below lines from his books aren't made for mocking and laughing at, what is? I mean, the SNL skit would be so easy. The below quotes from Barack Obama's autobiographies are really begging to be made fun of:

From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'

From Dreams of My Father: ; 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'

It's begging to be parodied!

Please! Obama wants to keep Paulson on in his administration? Let's look at Paulson's record:

"... worked for the administration of U.S. President Richard Nixon, serving as assistant to John Ehrlichman from 1972 to 1973." - Wikipedia

CEO of the number 1 WS investment bank Goldman Sachs from 1999 to 2006, covering the entire period of the Wall Street driven housing bubble.

Said the sub prime crisis was contained.

Said if given the bazooka to acquire the GSEs that in itself would calm the market. Fired the bazooka and market sank deeper.

Said no bailout was needed for Lehman and AIG. Bailed out AIG with 85 billion loan. Market froze overnight.

Now he said to trust him with 700 billion more.

And Obama thinks Paulson was put into a bad situation?
Please, it would be more accurate to say Paulson and his pals put the US in a bad situation.

More important Obama's judgment on this is clearly flawed. He has failed his first crisis test.

HOW CAN SNL MOCK SARAH PALIN'S RELIGION & IGNORE OBAMA'S TRINITY CHURCH?

1. Commitment to God
2. Commitment to the Black Community
3. Commitment to the Black Family
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic

--------

With six weeks until Election Day, and just days before the first debates, the two candidates are running tight races in Florida, Ohio and Missouri, according to polls released Sunday.

McCain holds a razor-thin one-point lead in Florida, ahead of Obama 47-46 percent, according to CNN's poll of polls.

The Republican presidential nominee held a healthier margin there for most of the summer, but Obama has aggressively targeted Sunshine State voters on the airwaves, topping McCain by a margin of more than eight to one when it comes to ad spending.

Florida has 27 electoral votes at stake.

McCain also leads by a one-point margin in Ohio, up 47-46 percent. No Republican has won the White House without winning Ohio, which has 20 electoral votes at stake.

The Ohio poll of polls consists of three surveys: Big Ten Battleground (September 14-17), CNN/Time/ORC (September 14-16), and Ohio Newspaper Poll/University of Cincinnati (September 12-16).

She would think I'm wasting my time on this blog. But I have a purpose for what I do. I'm learning from arguing with mentally deranged, political people. It's like a behavior modelling class observing people who feel that they have a compelling communications mission.

My mother, like Obama, was an "elitist". She would think you're all trash. Well, I do too, but only after finding that out; i.e. modeling your cyberbully behavior and communications culture and using other cultural coding in your speech to map it to the ghetto cultures you come from.

My mother would think I'm wasting my time, but I think of this as a learning experience.

I'm starting to understand why our political environment is so dysfunctional, twisted and divisive, and it has less to do with Republicans that Democrats think.

You are all great arguments for not wasting money on affirmative action admissions to college or community colleges. And great arguments for abortion, consistent with Steven Leavitt's "Freakonomics" analysis of the relationship between ghetto abortion rates and social dysfunction in criminal communities.

In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." Right. Now it's cancer. Your original spin was you chose not to work, and were well off.

Assuming this is the one time on The Fix that your are on the level (and don't think for a minute anyone believes it), what would your mother looking down from heaven think of her child sowing these lies and mistruths, then? Thank you David Underwood. Finally, a serious on point question. I commend you. Of course the jewish controlled comedy program failed to offer any balance or fairness to their show. They only attacked the integrity of our American hero, John McCain. McCain and Palin should take that show off the air as soon as they take office. P.S. Don't even watch the video clip that Mr. Cillzini attached to his article, it's a disgrace.

Then why was he talking to Stephanopolous about what he referred to as "my Muslim faith"? Was that just a Freudian slip? He didn't seem to be confused as he said it, only after it was pointed out to him what he had just said... watch the video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUYHFlGb2Ng&feature=iv

At minute 1:34 Stephanopolous asks Obama about why he makes accusations that the McCain campaign is going to accuse him of being Muslim, when the McCain has condemned people making those accusations.

At minute 2:49 Obama says: "You're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith."

Posted by: AsperGirl | September 21, 2008 4:04 PM

________
you're thick aren't you? this has been addressed, and you have been exposed...
he was referring to mccain calling him a 'muslim'...

again, with out the cutting in...
OBAMA:
Let's not play games. What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my 'Muslim faith'. And you're absolutely right that that has not come (directly from him)
that I'm a Muslim. And I think that his campaign's upper echelons have not, either.

he was saying that the direct mccain camp has not said he was of muslim faith, not that HE was of the muslim faith...

btw: 1/2 his time in indonesia (6-10) was spent in Catholic schools...
When Obama's mother remarried, it was indeed to an Indonesian man named Lolo Soetoro, whom his stepson describes as a "non-practicing" Muslim. But it was his "secular" mother who supervised his education, Obama has written, sending him to both Catholic and Muslim primary schools after the family moved to Jakarta. There is nothing on record to indicate Obama attended a madrassa (Muslim religious school) run by Wahabbists, and in any case it's unlikely his mother would have chosen to expose him to such an extreme form of Islam given her stated abhorrence of religious closed-mindedness and her stated goal of giving him a well-rounded education, including in matters of faith.

(Update: CNN has tracked down the school in question, the Basuki School in Jakarta, which a deputy headmaster described as a "public school" with no particular religious agenda. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment," he told CNN. A classmate of Obama's described the school as "general," with students of many religious backgrounds attending. Obama entered the school at the age of 8 and attended for two years.)

Some of the bills your bright boy has voted against and Pelosi has blocked and some of the initiatives passed expressly prevent the U.S. from doing more exploration to get a better estimate as to how much oil is out there.

Your sweeping statements are inconsistent with reality. According to Islamic law, even, he's considered Muslim by Muslims because his father was one. Even if he never practiced Islam as a child, he'd have been considered a Muslim child. The offshore oil thing is a complete ruse. The total "technically" available oil offshore, including Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic and Pacific represents less than 8 years of oil assuming a 1.5 % per year increase in usage or 10 years assuming no increase. THis oil is not easy to get, thus the word "technically." We need to solve the next 100 years of energy needs, not the 8 years from 2015 to 2023.

Yep. A quick search on "reserve currency status" reveals a next step in the crash is already under discussion ... American dollar not desirable anymore as a reserve currency.

Maybe the Democrats will let us drill for oil when no one will take dollars anymore, so that we actually are unable to buy it?

That is the next step in our energy dependence cycle-of-addiction buying our energy on credit no one wants to extend to us anymore. Of course, the currency has to become a world reject for that to happen first. But I'm sure Nancy Pelosi and Obama are comfortable with that approaching problem.

Meanwhile, we can sit around laughing at old-people-and-technology jokes that the lame, shallow and not-funny-anymore people at SNL cook up in their dim-bulb lefty-brains as relevant humor in this historic year.

Asper Girl - are you anti-free market too? America has tons of oil - it just happens to be along the coasts. But your Hollywood crew and limousine liberals are too concerned about their ocean views to be patriotic enough to allow real businessmen and entrepreneurs drill within 50 miles of the coastline. We've got three enormous coasts with tons of oil that God has placed there for us. Let's use God's gift and forget about romantic sun rises and sun sets. Go serious and straight in 08!

The "bailout" package is $700 billion?

Well, let's elect Mr. Barack Obama, who has raised & squandered $455 million on a campaign that should have cost 1/5 that much.

I wonder what he would cut if he wanted to save some of that money? The $6 million dollar stage for his one-time speech in mile-high stadium? The firehose blast of money he directed at his ill-conceived 50-state strategy?

He has raised and spent more than any other candidate in history, with obscene, lavish outlays.

There is a lot of humorous material in the Obama campaign. Only there is a cone of silence around the absurdity and sexism and shrill, specious allegations of racism that erupts from his direction.

The best SNL can do is its mean-spirited sexist, ageist parodies that lack insight, depth, meaning and value. They are empty Democratic, propaganda-cheerleading bobble-heads like the rest of the media this year.

I wonder what kind of sexist, ageist crap they will come out with for next week. Maybe they can mock Sarah Palin's religion or, hey, they can make racist jabs at John McCain's Bangladeshi adopted daughter like Bush did in 2000. I'm sure they can do a lot of pregnant-daughter stuff, too.

Because of the energy dependence and other issues of our trade deficit, on top of our other chronic economic problems, the next president, whomever he is, will likely be presiding over something a lot like a depression for at least several years.

We are running out of things to hock and sell. That is, in part, why our credit markets are overleveraged and shut down. We are as a society a few steps away from our own kind of bankruptcy.

One of the next steps will be for the United States dollar to lose its status as a reserve currency. And for commodity producers to take oil and gold and other commodities off the dollar standard. The careful disengagement from other economies dependence on the dollar should be the next step in our economic decline.

Then there will be less of an impact on other economies in the world when we spiral into a currency crash and/or other form of national economic bankruptcy.

But go on making out-dated and no-longer scientifically meaningful arguments against off-shore drilling and nuclear power. They entertain the shallow, young Democratic masses. In-between American Idol runs.

Why is the media's questioning of an underexperienced, radically Left, and compeltely polarizing moronic pick for President funny? If they arent doing it then they aren't doing their jobs.

I find it hard to believe that a candidate that accepts money from every lobbiest group in the country is ever going to turn away from buisness as usual. The people that bought him will continue to control and dictate his policies just as sure as they are spoon feeding him the script he reads for every speech.

As for negative ads and mud-slinging politics. Obama has it down to a science. Ive yet to see a speech where Obama doesnt engage in it.

This is funny... the divine madness of fools, Kafka-esque.

The drilling bill that bans drilling
By Jeff Jacoby

Q: Says here the House of Representatives approved a bill to allow offshore oil drilling, but nearly all the Republicans voted against it. Weren't Republicans the ones chanting "Drill, baby, drill!" at their convention last month?

A: Yep. That's why they voted against this bill. It isn't a drilling bill, it's an anti-drilling bill. If it becomes law, nearly all the oil and gas in the Outer Continental Shelf would be off-limits forever.

http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/09/21/the_drilling_bill_that_bans_drilling/

::::::

How much do we spend abroad for foreign oil this year - $700 billion! Same amount as the staggering, historic "Bailout" that is SHOCKING everyone! Democrats don't see any connection between the fantastical spending we engage in on credit to satisfy our enormous import requirements and the inflated asset values that we can't borrow against any more. What link is there between a trade deficit, a federal deficit and a credit-overleveraged consumer economy? The Democrats don't know...

Why don't the Democrats get that energy dependence isn't a joke?

This is so Kafka-esque. Half the country living in a deluded, media-hyped world of pie-in-the-sky unreality.

The Democrats are responsible for what is happening to our economy, from the "subprime" mortgages that they forced on the mortgage banking world decades ago, claiming that poor blacks weren't getting mortgages due to racism and not economic reasons, to their creations Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, and the sweeping deregulations of banking, finance & commodity trading in the Clinton Administration.

The one thing Democrats can never, ever be trusted with is putting their fingers into finance and banking. Every mark they have made on the industry to support their social agendas is an ingredient in the stew of malfeasance and malpractice that requires the banking bailout today.

Now, they are holding us trapped in energy dependence, without any apparent clue what it means to buy oil on $700 billion in credit every year and send it to our enemies.

The Democrats are the evil pols and bureaucrats in this economic mess.

That is why the media hasn't been pointing fingers at the Republicans over this. Every finger of blame points right back to the DEMOCRATS.

It's like Kafka, the broad madness in the Democratic party this year. It's almost existentially humorous if you take a step back. There is very little funny that SNL can do, so long as they are part of the propaganda machine that has become America's pop-culture-cum-fourth-estate this year.

What can SNL do? The humor they can come up with is only mean, sexist, ageist stuff. If they were smart enough to see the bigger ironies and madness playing itself out this year, they can't be brave enough to portray it.

But I don't think they're smart enough. I think that, like other dim bulbs in the media/entertainment complex, they just experience cognitive dissonance and retreat into a comforting hatred of Republicans, blaming the Republicans for a broken Congress, dysfunctionally divisive Democratic party and chain of natioanl events that make no sense in their affected, idealistic world.

Humor is puncturing through some cognitive dissonance with which we are uncomfortable, to some truth underneath. No Democrat this year has any capacity for any true political humor but the mean tribalistic jeering of culture and class resentments against Republicans. And sexism against executive political women.

WATCH THE CLIP YOURSELF
HERE, I'LL POST IT AGAIN TO HELP YOU OUT

OBAMA'S "MY MUSLIM FAITH" BLOOPER:

George Stephanopolous asked Obama about his accusations that the McCain campaign are going to accuse him of being Muslim. Obama goes into a 2 minute answer that includes the blooper "my Muslim faith".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUYHFlGb2Ng&feature=iv

At minute 1:34 Stephanopolous asks Obama about why he makes accusations that the McCain campaign is going to accuse him of being Muslim, when the McCain has condemned people making those accusations.

At minute 2:49 Obama says: "You're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith."

George Stephanopolous steps in and corrects him to say "Christian faith" and then Obama agrees and says "Christian faith". But then what Obama was going to say doesn't make sense anymore because that would be, "You're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Christian faith."

Obama then has to spend the next 15 seconds regrouping to make a point ("John McCain has not suggested I was a Muslim.")

All people aren't fooled by the media and "factcheck" sites that promote blatant lies about Barack Obama. They push lies 24/7 but even the candidate keeps making bloopers and Freudian slips.

The Associated Press tracked down his old school in Indonesia & recently posted a picture of his school's registration form.

It shows that he registered as a Muslim and an Indonesian citizen.

A lawsuit currently before a federal district court in Pennsylvania alleges that he used his Indonesian passport as late as age 20 to travel to Pakistan when normal (i.e. non-Muslim) Americans had difficulty going to Pakistan. His use of the Indonesian passport means he's either an Indonesian citizen or claims dual citizenship. The lawsuit claims that if Obama has dual citizenship he cannot qualify to be president of the U.S. because he can't have "undivided loyalties".

The Muslims think he's Muslim (or at least has Muslim childhood & origins). Below is a blog that lists a bunch of references.

:::::::

Barack Obama through Muslim Eyes
by Daniel Pipes

How do Muslims see Barack Hussein Obama? They have three choices: either as he presents himself – someone who has "never been a Muslim" and has "always been a Christian"; or as a fellow Muslim; or as an apostate from Islam.

Reports suggests that while Americans generally view the Democratic candidate having had no religion before converting at Reverend Jeremiah Wrights's hands at age 27, Muslims the world over rarely see him as Christian but usually as either Muslim or ex-Muslim.

Lee Smith of the Hudson Institute explains why: "Barack Obama's father was Muslim and therefore, according to Islamic law, so is the candidate. In spite of the Quranic verses explaining that there is no compulsion in religion, a Muslim child takes the religion of his or her father. … for Muslims around the world, non-American Muslims at any rate, they can only ever see Barack Hussein Obama as a Muslim." In addition, his school record from Indonesia lists him as a Muslim

Thus, an Egyptian newspaper, Al-Masri al-Youm, refers to his "Muslim origins." Libyan ruler Mu‘ammar al-Qaddafi referred to Obama as "a Muslim" and a person with an "African and Islamic identity." One Al-Jazeera analysis calls him a "non-Christian man," a second refers to his "Muslim Kenyan" father, and a third, by Naseem Jamali, notes that "Obama may not want to be counted as a Muslim but Muslims are eager to count him as one of their own."

NBC used to be middle-of-the-road.

The liberals in New York and California somehow believe it is right for them to utilize the public airwaves in such a biased and horrible manner. What is wrong with them? Have they been to Rev. Wright's church - do the whites at NBC know how much Obama's church friends hate them?

Obama in the mud: So much for honesty

When Barack Obama first began campaigning in New Hampshire in early 2007, many voters swooned. We watched him speak to retirees in Claremont one snowy February day that year. Not a single voter we talked with before he spoke planned to vote for him. Afterwards, many said they would. The word that spontaneously came from the lips of multiple attendees: sincere. They couldn't remember a politician who spoke with such sincerity, they said. And many of them had been voting since World War II.

We wonder what those same voters think of Obama's sincerity now. In the past few weeks, Obama has thrown so many false accusations against John McCain that just keeping track of them has become difficult. And these aren't innocent errors. They are deliberate distortions of the sort Obama has always said he reviles.

Click for Editorials & Op-EdsOn Thursday, Obama said of McCain, "He has consistently opposed the sorts of common-sense regulations that might have lessened the current crisis." That's entirely untrue.

As The Washington Post pointed out in an editorial on Friday, McCain in fact has supported many new regulations of financial institutions, including some that Obama opposed. "In 2006, he pushed for stronger regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- while Mr. Obama was notably silent," The Post wrote.

Obama attacked McCain for having a top financial advisor who supported a deregulation bill a few years ago. Yet two top Obama financial advisors, with whom he met on Friday to help him form his response to the current troubles on Wall Street, supported the same bill, which was signed by President Clinton.

Also last week, Obama released a Spanish-language ad that portrayed McCain as anti-immigrant and anti-Hispanic and tried to link him to immigration policies that were not his own as well as some choice Rush Limbaugh quotes that appeared to insult Mexicans.

Anyone who has followed the immigration debate knows that McCain is the most pro-immigration Republican on the national stage and that he is not in the least anti-Hispanic. To pull quotes from Rush Limbaugh, who has completely different immigration views than McCain and who opposed him on that issue for years (and still does) is completely disingenuous. The ad is so bad that even The New York Times called it "misleading."

Obama's campaign also accused McCain of lying when McCain's campaign ran an ad saying that Obama supported sex education for kindergarteners. But the bill in question, which Obama supported in the Illinois state Senate, did indeed change state law to allow sex education for kindergarteners.

Obama has said that he won't attack John McCain's motives, only his policies. But he has repeatedly attacked McCain's motives, suggesting that he has been bought off by oil companies and lobbyists.

Obama's greatest strength as a candidate, aside from his oratorical skill, has long been his apparent sincerity and decency. Voters attracted to him think of him as that rarest of things: an honest politician. He has claimed himself that he would never engage in the sort of deceptive politicking that he says has tainted Washington for so long.

Yet here he is violating his own professed standards. This is not the Barack Obama so many voters in New Hampshire and elsewhere thought they knew. But it is the real Barack Obama. For despite his rhetoric, he is in fact campaigning so dishonestly that even The Washington Post and The New York Times have called him on it. Which means that he is in practice no different from those regular politicians against whom his entire campaign has been built.

The media is no longer the fourth balance of power, but an elitist group out to manipulate the average American. Sad day for America when the media (big brother) thinks Americans are so stupid that they need to tell us how we should think. Luckily the average American has more common sense than the average New York elitist, and sees through the bs they spew on us daily.

WHY WHY WHY did Obama refer to "his Muslim faith"???

Was he confused because they were using the work Muslim over and over in their conversation? No.

Did the republican word fairy make him pull the word Muslim out of thin air? No.

Obama slipped at the wheel and responded NATURALLY to the topic. "My Muslim faith".

I don't care if Obama is a Muslim. I do care that he tries to hide and and has alterior motives.

This is the best example of extreme Muslims:

Nazis were a minority in Germany. Most Germans were complacent about their country let the Nazi go about their reckless measures. In turn, Germans were associated with Nazis. Why? Because the complacent German citizens didn't speak out agains the Nazis until it was too late and the Nazis had control.

Moderate Muslims are not speaking out on a level to make them non-complacent with the extreme radical Muslims. This makes all Muslims extreme to public view. So Obama... you need to speak out or otherwise you'll just get labeled an extreme.

You're such an effing liar. Below is the exact link & description of the exchange.

Your Muslim boy can't keep his mouth wired to his lies consistently.

We now have created the Soviet Union circa 1989. Palin represents the worst instincts of the fundamentalist core of the Republican party that managed to drive away people like me. This narrow minded, provincial, poorly educated, but religiously rigid worldview is shared by our very enemies, Moqtada Al-Sadr and Mullah Omar. Obama's solution is raise taxes on rich? HAHAHAHAHahahahahAHAHAHahaha.

Ted Kennedy tried that. He proposed and backed a bill on congress to impose luxury taxes, tax the rich.

Several years later after several industries were on the cusp of going away forever due to lack of business and laying off thousands of employees - all due to rich people no longer buying anything due to higher taxes - after several years, Kennedy jumped on the congress floor proclaiming we need to "get rid of this luxury tax" that is killing our enconomy.

First he takes credit for taxing the rich, then Kennedy wants to take credit for solving the impending economy down turn caused by his luxury tax.

Obama thinks he can fix problems by JUST taxing the rich? is that all he has? taxing the rich? Oh no! this country's headed for a economical stone age under Obama.

McCain? He want's to provide tax incentives to companies to KEEP jobs in America and stimulate job growth here in our OWN country. He want's to cut wasteful spending on earmarks and private projects inside of congress. McCain want's to give tax breaks to ALL Americans. Why give tax brakes to "rich" business owners?

You give a lower class citizen a tax "rebate"? what does he do with it? He pays his bills?

You give a middle or upper class citizen a tax "rebate"? what do they do with it? They buy something... GOD FORBID they buy something which in turn causes higher production of merchandise which causes jobs which causes higher wages... oh I see where this is going. $%&@ McCain wants to create jobs! How dare he!

Obama? How will he create jobs? Create more wasteful spending in Washington and give ppl government jobs. Where will Obama get the $$ for these projects to give these ppl jobs? By taxing the rich. But if the rich stop working, where will he get the money? uh.....uh oh. Middle class will eat it. tsk-tsk.

NOT, that he was muslim...

You are somewhat of an idiot when you try to post something you didn't copy and paste. It is all you can do to make a sentence and what you do manage to write needs several readings to have any ides what you are talking about. Maybe you should forget the originals ideas and stick with posting the republican emails you get.

The truly hilarious material is stuff that people on SNL are too afraid to tackle. Like the following:

--the Temple of Obama

--Joe Biden's elevation over Hillary Clinton (parody heaven)

--how feminists react to Sarah Palin's fertility w/heads exploding

--in a year when we will send $700 billion abroad to buy foreign oil, just coincidentally (?) the same amount of the Big Huge Bank Bailout, how the dysfunctional House of Representatives just passed a "drilling" bill that sabotages drilling under 100 miles out (at what point do the anti-drillers get painfully absurd enough that comedians make fun of this?)

-- How the media react to Sarah Palin

-- Anything in Alaska involving a moose

The SNL crowd have so much material, they could be rolling in it. Except for the fact that all the absurdity this year is on the part of the democrats (a big reversal after 8 years of Bush).

And they're not allowed to make fun of dems and laugh with Republicans at the absurdity.

So they put out this lame & dishonest McCain skit.

That was just to poke fun at Obama's expense that benefited Clinton.

I'm sure they encounter more than a "furor" if they make fun of Obama, dems, to the benefit of Republicans. They'd be met by the loony left villagers with pitchforks & torches.

Sarah Palin Meets with Afghan President Karzai (Transcript)

"Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will meet next week with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in New York, on the sidelines of the opening of the U.N. General Assembly, according to Afghan officials in Washington."--Washington Post

TRANSCRIPT:

Palin: Oh, Mr. President, it is such a pleasure to meet you, you're the first head of state that I have had the opportunity to meet--which is more than many Vice Presidents--and I'm so glad that my first one is an Afghani.

You know, in Trig's class there was a little Afghani? He was the child of one of the oil executives, and he was so cute, with his little turban runnin' around, everyone just loved him, and felt for him...

Karzai: Yes.

Palin: And everyone knew that we just had to defend him and keep him free and that's why I think that with a Palin/McCain...

Palin Aide: (looking up from clipboard) McCain/Palin.

Palin: ...McCain/Palin ticket, we can make sure of that, if we have to attack Russia, even, I mean, to keep people free at home, just like we want to keep our people free. We have so much in common! I know you have the problem with the poppies, and I understand because we have the same problem with the crystal meth in Wasilla? And I said "Look, we've got to shake this up!" and then that's exactly what I said: 'Look, let's just see what we have in common with these guys!" And that's just what you could do with the Taliban, Mr. Karzai. They've already so moral, and they want people to live by the straight and narrow, and they've got the newspapers sayin' and the schools doin' lots of the right things. They just need to get some of the right ideas, and pray to the right Lord. And, if they don't understand, we still have the weapons left over from Iraq, and then we can't blink, we can't blink, can we, Mr. Karzai?

Karzai: (Looks at Palin silently without moving his head. Pauses.). Blink?

Palin: Right. The thing is, we just have to hit the ground runnin', Mr. Karzai. That's what I do. A few weeks ago I didn't even know what a Vice President does! That's why I put a clock on my wall--do you have the same clocks as we do in Afghanistan? With the twelve numbers? (points in air to numbers on air clock)--Anyway, I said "I'm gonna measure just how much time I have left here" and that's what you could do, I think, with the war, Mr. Karzai, is to put up a clock so you know just how much time you have left until you finish it. I tell you, Mr. Karzai, it's such a motivating influence on my staff, the good ones, anyway, they know what they're supposed to finish and when, they hear me sayin' "Look at the clock, people, look at the clock, and know what you have left to finish..."

Karzai: Yes.

Palin: And so I said to my husband, Todd--I call him the "First Dude"--Do you have that word 'Dude' here in Afghanistan?--maybe it's like "Khan" or "Emir" or somethin'?--I said to him, 'Todd, we have to take a look at what's happenin' in Afghanistan--before McCain called or any other thing happened--' cause I saw that Russia was right across from us and then right next to that you have all the Stans (counts cross fingers) Kyrgyzstan, oh, what's the others?--well, you are aware of them, of course, Mr. Karzai (laughs)...

Karzai: (Nods)

Palin: And if we don't let other people know of what I'm aware of, then the world won't change, Mr. Karzai. I know we have the same goals even if we don't have the same God yet...(aide touches Palin on shoulder, whispers). 'Even', not 'yet', I meant 'same God even', Mr. Karzai. And my point is, we can't let others stop our choice, which is freedom for those who deserve it, and that's why I know a Palin/McCain...

Palin Aide: (reaching over to touch shoulder)

Palin: Stop! (brushing aide's hand off)...McCain/Palin ticket will do just what you want, Mr. Karzai...

Second Palin Aide Approaches: It's time for your next appointment, Gov. Palin.

Palin: It was so good meeting you, President Karzai, and all of your other people, it was so good meeting you too! Shalom! (waves, exits)

Karzai: (to his aide, in Pashto): She makes the last one look like the Grand Mufti.

Whats not funny:

Temple of Obama: How is having reverence and respect for the canadate you support for the highest office of the land funny?

Hillary: Why is picking the least polarizing and most experienced person for the second highest office in the land funny?

I don't give a care about how femenists react to Sara Palin's fertility. Not funny.

How is protecting our shores from becoming industrial sludge wastelands funny? What is funny is John McCain proffesing to be able to fix the economy when he doesn't even know what went wrong.

Why is the media's questioning of an underexperienced, radically right, and compeltely polarizing moronic pick for vp funny? If they weren't doing it then they wouldn't be doing their jobs.

Finally anything involving a moose and alaska is not funny, unless you're a dimwit.

... and for Mark Warner. Keep virginia RED in the presidential elections, all you independents.

This is not Trent Lott or Jesse Helms. Its JOHN MCCAIN. A man cordially detested by true"blue" republicans.

One thing that NEVER gets mentioned is that fact that Palin VETOED a bill that denied same-sex couples health benefits. This doesn't look like the act of a spiteful fundamentalist, as the media would have you believe she is. By the way, shes running for vice president.. not president.

They could make a skit in which he furiously battles rumors that he's a Muslim, putting up a fight the smears website, etc. And then runs around constantly making religious/Muslim bloopers.

OBAMA BLOOPERS IN WHCH HE TALKS LIKE A MUSLIM

Obama is known for always speaking very carefully & precisely (it's his gift). Except when he's talking about his religion or when he's making those "Muslim bloopers".

:: BARACK OBAMA: "MY MUSLIM FAITH" ::

In an interview of Obama on September 7, George Stephanopolous asked Obama about his accusations that the McCain campaign are going to accuse him of being Muslim.

:: OBAMA THINKS THE U.S. HAS "57 STATES" ::

You can watch Obama's statement that he's visited "57 states".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpGH02DtIws

This is no joke, he really said this. This was no "slip", he pauses & thinks about it!

What American would forget that? And why would he pick the number "57" out of the air?

Everyone knows that we have 50 states. But there is a union that has 57 states in it: the nation of Islam. The Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is an international organization with a permanent delegation to the United Nations. It has 57 Islamic member states, from the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, Caucasus, Balkan, Southeast Asia, South Asia and South America.

This is kind of an important slip coming from a candidate who is African-Arab by racial heritage, Muslim by birth who claims to now be Christian, who was raised abroad in an Islamic state (Indonesia) with a Muslim stepfather, who traveled to Pakistan using his Indonesian-citizenship passport at age 20 when he was supposed to be a U.S. citizen and Americans weren't supposed to go to Pakistan, who belonged for 20 years to a Church that publishes pro-Hamas material and whose leadership has close ties to the Nation of Islam, and who has been endorsed by Hamas.

:: TOO-LONG, BABBLE-ANSWER ON THE QUESTION WHAT IS THE MEANING OF JESUS IN HIS LIFE ::

You can also watch Barack Obama's too-long, wandering, lame response to the question: what is the meaning of Jesus in his life. He starts kind of okay with a trite answer, but then gets lost and stops making sense until he ends up claiming that Jesus makes him try new things like running for President after Rev. Warren starts making noises that signal to Obama he needs to cut it off.

http://www.youtube.com/v/gHtAWPjzvyk&rel=0&color1=11645361&color2=13619151&fs=1

Afterward, Obama declares that was a tough question, whereon Rev. Warren says, "Oh no, that was a freebie, a gimme."

Successful comedy depends on a common audience perception of something true, or at least already broadly accepted as being true. Parody in particular builds on a basis of widely-recognized reality.

These aren't new charges against McCain – they're SNL's comedic twists on the irresponsible tactics McCain and his SchmidtRove campaign have chosen to use. If those tactics weren't already widely recognized as deceptive they wouldn't be the subject of a teevee satire broadcast to a national audience.

Compared to the Tina Fey skit, this is a bit lame, and not that funny. SNL can do better than this.

Posted by: Zoe | September 21, 2008 11:23 AM | Report abuse

Pretty lame. Not that funny.

The SNL skit seemed to accuse McCain of using racist imagery, consistent with Obama's false accusations of prospective racism (i.e. promising that the Republicans will use racism against him). As we know those accusations on Obama's part are false. So the SNL skit, ironically, is like an ad that perpetuates a false accusation that Obama has made about how the Republicans "will" campaign in the future against him.

Also, ironically, the SNL skit deploys a prejudice against McCain's age, which the Obama "disco era" ad smeared McCain with.

The SNL skit boldly integrates an Obama smear into its skit, parodying what it presents as McCain's racist ads, a parody that embodies a false accusation against Republicans by Obama, and it does so in a skit showing McCain putting out dirty ads after a week in which Obama took the record for dirty-ad spending historically.

The SNL people might think they're on the side of good, but they're propaganda con artists like the rest of the media this year. They have become part of the Evil Empire of dishonest propaganda pushers, whether or not they think their ends justify the means.

Yeah, but this skit paled in comparison to the Tina Fey skit last week. Fey and Poehler's performance last week was one of the all-time great SNL political skits: it was totally spot-on writing and perfectly executed.

This McCain skit pretty much sucked.

Lol...that was funny!

"Barack Obama has fathered two kids in wedlock"...I'm surprised the repubs haven't tried to somehow smear Obama on that.
