Sunday Afternoon Fun: The Best Band in the World

Wilco, led by Barack Obama-loving frontman Jeff Tweedy, appeared on "The Colbert Report" earlier in the week and even found a way to make mention of the host of the show.

Hat tip: Philadelphia based music man (and Democratic strategist) Mark Nevins.

If there was a white Presidential candidate who was found to be a member of a racist church, same as the Rev. Wright's church except substitute "white values" for "black values" and visa vera, THE MEDIA WOULD BE IN TOTAL ATTACK MODE AGAINST THAT WHITE CANDIDATE.

OBAMA IS A RACIST - OBAMA GAVE $20,000.00 TO A RACIST CHURCH IN ONE YEAR.

YOU CALL THAT JUDGEMENT ???

Washington Post - there are a lot of Churches in Chicago which are black and which are not racist - Obama did not have to give $20,000.00 to this one Church - STOP GIVING OBAMA A PASS ON HIS RACISM AGAINST WHITES.

SOLD OUT?!?!?!

Wilco has gotten LESS commercial over the last few years and not more, they are much more arty and esoteric in their songs than before - despite doing VW ad background music...the corporate sell out thing is sooooo 20th century...

Always love it when my favorite band, blog, presidential candidate and late night TV show come together in one place.

Chris, thanks for doing such a great job on the Fix, if only it were eligible for an Emmy you could win one over the ever deserving Colbert!!!

People are missing the point here. Wilco sold out 5 years ago, and hasn't made anything worth listening to since Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

The only thing that will stop Obama from being elected POTUS is fear! The fear the old white guy has of voting for a black man for POTUS. Let us hope that there are enough people of good faith that will overcome their fear and go ahead and vote a good man into office. I'm 74 years young now but when I went to grade school I was taught in the first grade that Black people were the decedents of Ham the son of Noah who joked about his fathers drunkenness and that therefor black people were put on this world to serve us. That they never should be treated as equals. This I was taught in a Christian grade school 68 years ago this fall. Was this in the deep south? No, this was in an so called enlightened Western European country. It took me until we had moved to the States and I had lots of friends that were of a different color than me to overcome this teaching. But I am not so naive to believe that I was the only one to be taught this way and I am not so naive to believe that all of us have overcome those beliefs. Let us hope and pray that enough of us have overcome our fears and false beliefs so that next Tuesday it will not make one iota difference.

I'm a middle aged guy- many years to work- I believe in paying my fair share- I would not complain about a rise in my income tax during this economic crisis....BUT Obama is proposing something way beyond that- his wanting to "spread the wealth around" includes removing the payroll tax cap on Soc. security taxes, a move which Democratic Economic hero Bill Clinton called "Regressive" because it is regressive...the more a small business owner profits, the more she's taxed...it will lead to layoffs in my business and in many many others. Obama wants to send my additional tax dollars to those who currently pay no income tax....and he will have more and more former employees to send checks to. He also will raise business taxes- which we will all pay. He doesn't care- he supports corn ethanol which helps Illinois farmers, makes us all pay higher food prices, and does nothing to reduce our dependence on foreign oil- uses one unit petrol for every one it saves.

So, he's obviously more motivated by what's best for Barack Obama than what's best for America...and IF you're supporting him, he's obviously also successful in fooling you and those like you.

I was kind of curious what Tweedy's political stance would be. He cut his teeth as a country musician, so I thought perhaps that would make him McCainian.

I'd still love Wilco even if Tweedy went Republican, but its cool that he's on my side, hehe.

wow, I'll be the first one to actually comment on the article...

I have to say, I'm a big Wilco fan, but the song wasn't very good. I thought Tweedy's interview was a lot of fun, though-- as much fun as Tweedy can have. It would definitely be amazing if they played at the Inauguration-- get them, the Boss, will.i.am, and others, and it would be the best inauguration ever!

In a twisted sort of way I almost want McCain to win this election because four more years worth of failed Bush/McCain policies would for all intents and purposes be the end of the Republican party as we know it today. They would become the 4th party gadflies that they deserve to be.

*McCain - Founding Member of the Keating 5

McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.

Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faces new trials in both courts.)

McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal."

McCain was not convicted of any crimes, though the Senate concluded that he exercised "poor judgment." (Furthermore, he got off on some charges by a technicality -- that he was still in the House when he took those vacation trips, and so the Senate couldn't prosecute him. The House concluded that THEY couldn't prosecute him because he had moved to the Senate.)

Here's some mavericky straight talk, my friends:

President George W. Bush Endorses Barack Obama For President
Says He Was Always In The Tank For The Illinois Senator.

Washington DC - In perhaps the most surprising move in what has been an unpredictable campaign season, president George W. Bush called a press conference early Monday to announce that he will be supporting the Democratic nominee Barack Obama for president. President Bush joins a long list of Republicans who have endorsed the Democrat, but his endorsement was probably the least expected. No American president in recent history, if at all, has ever crossed party lines to endorse the candidate of the opposing party to succeed them. As the news reverberated around the country there was initial shock followed by disbelief. Even the Obama campaign at first thought it was a joke before issuing a statement saying they did not appreciate the late Bush endorsement. “This is a last minute ploy by the president to help get his friend John McCain elected,” the campaign said. On the other hand, the McCain campaign was quick to say that “the Bush endorsement shows Senator Obama will continue the disastrous polices of George Bush.

McCain does not have the ability to fix this economic crisis. After declaring the fundamentals of the economy strong, he created a political circus in Washington by mucking up bailout negotiations; a deplorable campaign stunt, considering he and his political cronies helped cause the current meltdown.

It was McCain and his economic adviser Phil Gramm who pushed for the deregulation that helped lead to the banking crisis, and it was McCain's crony Rick Davis who had deep lobbyist ties to Freddie Mac. Don't let others be fooled by McCain's economic grandstanding because the reality is his policies and principles will only exacerbate our financial hardships.

McCain is being deceitful with his sudden populist message and support for regulation; his economic policies still favor our nation's wealthy elite.

Chris Cillizza we have been on these boards long enough to read about Barack Obama's racism against Hispanics. Obama does not even dispute this on his website or in public. And since this damaging information has been posted on your blog for as long as Obama has been running for president by chaos45i you have said nothing. It would not be because you and your paper are suppressing it. Just for the record. We all know you would not inform Hispanics if Obama won't. Anything for Obama to win. Right...

Gateway Pundit
EXPLOSIVE NEW AUDIO-- Obama Promises San Francisco Audience He Will Bankrupt Coal Industry!!

OBAMA TOLD A SAN FRANCISCO AUDIENCE THAT HE WILL BANKRUPT THE COAL INDUSTRY!!!

ATTN: Coal states Virginia , Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Indiana, guess what Obama told San Francisco about you?

OBAMA TELLS SAN FRANCISCO HE WILL BANKRUPT THE COAL INDUSTRY:

from his talk to the San Francisco Chronicle in January 2008:

"Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.

That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.

The only thing I've said with respect to coal, I haven't been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.

It's just that it will bankrupt them."

This goes hand-in-hand with what he's said about nuclear energy.
His preconditions make it impossible to expand nuclear energy at this time.
From The Wall Street Journal:

On nuclear power, Sen. Obama says he's open to expanding nuclear energy, which now provides 20% of the nation's electricity, as part of an effort to increase power sources that emit little or no carbon dioxide. But he also has said there is no future for expanded nuclear energy until the U.S. comes up with a safe, long-term solution for disposing of nuclear waste. He opposes the Bush administration's plan for storing waste at Yucca Mountain in Nevada.
