Woodhouse to DNC

The takeover of the Democratic National Committee by Barack Obama's campaign continues apace with the hiring of communications operative Brad Woodhouse at the national party committee.

Woodhouse will share duties with current communications director Karen Finney -- a similar setup to the one the Obama campaign has put in place with other recent moves such as installing Paul Tewes as the de facto executive director of the committee but leaving current DNC executive director Tom McMahon in his job. Those familiar with the setup say that Finney will remain a spokesperson for the DNC while Woodhouse will run the day to day operations of the organization. All of the current DNC press staff will remain in place.

Neither Woodhouse nor the DNC would comment on the pending move.

For Woodhouse, who has been running the issue-oriented progressive group Americans United for the last several years, his new post is a return home. He has a number of long-standing relationships with senior level staffers at the Obama campaign. Woodhouse did a stint in the consulting firm of Tewes and Steve Hildebrand, one of the lead strategists for the Illinois Senator, and has a relationship with Obama press operative Robert Gibbs that dates back to the late 1990s when the duo worked together in Rep. Bobby Etheridge's (D-N.C.) office. Woodhouse is taking leave from his current post at the head of Americans United but will return to the job once the election ends.

Woodhouse's hiring is the latest sign that Obama's campaign is working to install operatives of their own choosing in key roles across the party to ensure that the brand the Illinois Senator has built during the primary season is preserved in the general election. In addition to Tewes, recently named campaign political director Matt Nugen as the head of operations for the Democratic National Convention later this summer in Denver.

The takeover of the national party by the presidential nominee is nothing new. Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) did much the same earlier this year after securing his party's nod. It is always a delicate process, however, as new faces must be moved in without offending the old faces already in place.

So my question is this, Do you believe the constitution have the rights to define us what ethnic we belong to ? how about the orang asli jakuns aren't they related to us too and also our founding ancestors ? No racist comments plz I am actually a proud muslim, but I don't like the constitution cause if you look how they define the malay ethnicity in Malaysia is like how the Jews define the Jewish ethnicity based on religion, culture and language. Sorry no offence my malay brothers. It's ironic malays criticise Jews very much while the Malaysian constitution define the malay ethnic the same ..

NEWS FLASH . NEWS FLASH

Obama really did it now - he is FALSELY ACCUSING the Republican party of racism BEFORE THEY SAY ANYTHING - Obama does not have an actual quote or instance of racism - so he is going with the "Republicans are GOING TO BE RACIST" line instead. The Constitution states one is innocent until proven guilty - Obama's new version of the Bill of Rights is "one is a racist before one says or does anything." Is this Obama's version of a post-racial campaign ? Give the country a break.

Obama is a disgrace to the Bill of Rights.

This is actually a new version of twisting someone's words around and "FALSELY PRETENDING TO BE OFFENDED." Or the FALSE ACCUSATIONS OF "OFFENSIVE COMMENTS."

This time, Obama has nothing to go on. He has nothing.

So Obama says the Republicans are "GOING TO SAY SOMETHING WHICH MIGHT BE TWISTED INTO SOMETHING THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED RACIST IF ONE REALLY REALLY REALLY TRIED." THESE REMARKS BY OBAMA ARE SO ANTI-AMERICAN AND SO OFFENSIVE TO EUROPEAN AMERCANS THAT Obama should RESIGN FROM THE SENATE IMMEDIATELY AND WITHDRAW FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE.

****************************************

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (CNN) - Barack Obama told supporters that Republicans will "try to make you afraid of me" in remarks he made Friday at a Florida fundraiser.

"The choice is clear. Most of all we can choose between hope and fear. It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy.

"We know what kind of campaign they're going to run," said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. "They're going to try to make you afraid. They're going to try to make you afraid of me. 'He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did I mention he's black?'"

In similar comments at a Chicago fundraiser last Thursday, Obama told supporters that Republicans would try to portray both him and his wife Michelle as "scary."

"They're going to try to make me into a scary guy," he said last week. "They're even trying to make Michelle into a scary person. Right?" And so that drumbeat - 'we're not sure if he's patriotic or not; we're not sure if he is too black.'

"I don't know, before I wasn't black enough," said Obama. "'Now he might be too black. We don't know whether he's going to socialize - well, who knows what.'"

Not if but When President Obama rebuilds this Country where do you see it going?
Where do i see this once proud nation going once our President Barack Obama is done rebuilding this country to where it needs to be, that real simple and very easy to great places because with Obama we americans know that we can trust him with our country and better yet with our lives. since we know that our country will be in safe hands with him and that mostly because he is a great american, no that not good for him he is a great american leader

I know for sure that Obama will fix all the problems that america has right now since Obama will work for the people's and not someone else, like Mccain who will fellow Bush orders since he a fellower but back to Obama i see a better healthcare plan with him to make it affordable for anyone. what else you say i think he will put an end to the war on terrorism and make this world safe, i also think it possible that he will come up with a plan and stop globel warming. so where do you see this country going with Obama as our leader

If you pose it that way, a President Obama would take this country right down the sewer. This is why there will not be a "President" Obama.

You should stop mixing your medication.

The election hasn't even happened yet.

But, to answer your question...IF he wins, the changes he will make will be higher taxes, more social programs, more decisions made for us by the government.

My question for you is this, you, like him just make vague references to "change"...what exactly do you see as the changes he will make IF elected?

And, don't cop out and say "read his web page".

"I know for sure that Obama will fix all the problems that america has right now "

I'm a lib and find your statement utterly hilarious. (btw-America is capitalized, or are you too lazy?)

Neither of the presidential candidates will resolve healthcare, illegals, national debt, failing American owned industry, decaying national infra-structure, nor the ever-worsening education system.

At best after 4 years, we'll be respected in foreign countries for a leader that listens to its allies and its own people.

No matter what happens I really believe that this country is going to see a prosperous day that we could have never imagined. Despite all that is happening I am extremely optimistic about the future of this country. I know this because despite all of our differences Americans are smart, hardworking, and generous. It is always darkest before the sun comes up...but its its getting light out.

It for sure cant get any worst!!! I think most white people are afraid to have a black man as a leader, b/c of OUR nations past history with race issues. I beleive it is time for change and I think Obama is the one. If we dont face those issues how can we heal. Slavery is wrong, racism is wrong we all know that, so why are people judging him and hasnt even given him a chance. Elect McCain and the country will stay just like it IS! If you are not rich then I know u r feeling the crunch!

Bush fluffers, what would it take for you to admit Bush lied to us and has been a bad president?
We all can agree the things Bush has been accused of, if true, would make him one of the worst presidents ever. The reason you Bush groupies still love him is because you don't believe the claims to be true.

What would it take you to believe the claims to be true? Obviously you're programmed to accuse everyone of lying so what would it take to actually convince you of this?

So far the following does not qualify as evidence against Bush:

Videos of saying one thing and then denying he ever said it.(lying)
Insiders/ex-loyalists coming forward confirming the exact same thing the public has been saying for years.
Retired Generals coming forward saying the president was wrong and the war is a failure.
etc....

All of these people have conveniently been labeled as liars. So I ask you, what would it take for you to believe us? What would it take for you to finally denounce Bush and admit he's been a horrible president?

PLEASE DON'T ANSWER WITH A QUESTION. THANKS.

Joe, so you're just denying the facts to score points? What grade are you in? This isn't a game. People are dying because people like you still willing to defend and re-elect corrupt presidents.

BTW, I personally have never defended Pelosi.

when you admit those things about Pelosi and the Dems and the Clintons and OBama, we'll look at the facts surrounding Bush.

Bush cares about American kids. Too bad it doesn't seem the Dems do. They seem to fight and get upset if Bush interfers with the lives of potential terrorists.

Who's laughing now?

Are you trying to tell me how to answer your question? Don't you know I have the right to answer your question with a question if I want to?
Why do you think the discovery of new information automatically changes someone's previous position into a lie? Would you agree that most everyone believed the same as Bush did back in2002-2003? So, was everyone telling lies, or do you just apply that to conservatives?

All Liberals whould have to pull their heads out of their @$$ and admit Jimmy Carter was the sorriest president we ever had. That his policies were a failure and if he had been elected to a second term we would now all be speaking Russian. They would also have to admit that Clinton was a bigger Liar than Bush or Nixon!!!!

THANKS.

Even though there really aren't any Repub 527s around, I am so scared of my own shadow, that I feel I must totally abandon my previous reason for living, campaign reform, and take the money to defend myself. you see, if the truth about me ever really got out, past my base, aka the MSM, no one would vote for me.

This money will allow me to manage my message and only produce the lies that will get me elected. you see I am truly the Seinfeld/MTV candidate. It is all about nothing. no substance, all flash.

and if anyone comes after my wife, I hope with all audacity, that John McCain will come to her rescue.

I hope you like the MTV me. Please don't look behind the curtain.

MEMO TO WOODHOUSE: MAKE DEMS THE CHAMPIONS
OF CIVIL LIBERTIES AND CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS

Woodhouse should refocus the Dems on constitutional rights issues -- domestic surveillance, dangers to democracy posed by electronic voting machines and the lack of a paper trail, and possible Administration aid and support for KKK-style vigilante groups known as "GANG STALKERS" or "COMMUNITY STALKERS."

While the media focus on the horse race, democracy is being threatened by suspect election apparatus and grassroots quasi-military vigilante squads.

Where is the national media on stories about our threatened democracy?

Yes, Chris, this has much to do with politics. Because the politics of fear and vigilantism is destroying our democratic freedoms at the grassroots, while the pundits play the "Who Won the Week" game.

Where are todays Woodwards and Bernsteins?

Nader is running due to his own oversized ego -- he is the last thing needed this time out, he has elected (with republican money) Bush twice.

Resistance is futile!

It's very important that Obama rebrands the party with his own people. The party had been under the control of the Clintons for 20 years and so, many are operatives of the clintons.
Since they have now been 'dethroned', Obama needs to put his people in who understand the man and what his priorites and ideas are.
It will be excellent for the party as a whole as, after 20 years of the same rule, for some fresh talent and thinking to guide the party and help steer it in a new direction and strengthen a party that has been severely weakened over the past 2 decades.

the subtext is that the Rodham Clintonistas had taken over the Party as part of her march to the nomination. Most normal people would get the message and resign and move on similar to the people that moved on when HRC had her people installed, but... these are political types that don't do anything normal because they rule over us, they are smarter and better than normal types. They will need to be shadowed like repugs working inside the Democratic Party.

Why Won't Corporations Take on Big Oil?

By RALPH NADER

Here is a counter-intuitive story for you. Why don't organized corporate interests challenge damage or risks to their clear economic interests?

Think about oil prices for big consumers, not just your pocketbook. Airlines are groaning, limiting flights, and laying off employees because of the skyrocketing price for aviation fuel. Executives in that industry say that fuel costs are close to 40 percent of the cost of flying you to your destination.

The powerful chemical industry is under pressure from the prices they're paying for petroleum--probably their main raw material.

The powerful trucking industry is beside itself with diesel fuel going to $5 per gallon.

You can add your own examples--cab companies, tourist industry, auto companies, etc.

Why aren't these very influential lobbies throwing their weight around Washington to get something done about the speculators on Wall Street determining what is paid for gasoline and related petroleum products? It is in their own economic interests.

To do what? Well, for starters, push Congress to legislate higher margin requirements for the speculators at the New York Mercantile Exchange--the same fellows who, based on rumors, took the price of a barrel of oil up another $10 in one day.

Higher margin requirements (and wider disclosure rules) result in dampening speculation by reducing the amount of borrowed money these traders can use in their gigantic commodities casino.

Long-time member of the New York Stock Exchange, Michael Robbins--an astute and fair analyst--says margin rules have historically been used to dampen speculation on stock exchanges. He mentioned a time years ago when the Federal Reserve raised the margin requirement to ninety percent--meaning the traders had to put up 90% of their own money on trades.

There are other moves that can be made by Washington to ease the oil price crisis that is fueling inflation throughout the economy and shocking consumers. Suffice it to say that ExxonMobile testified earlier this month in Congress that absent the speculators, the price of a barrel of crude oil would be half what it is today. That would mean about $65 a barrel instead of $130 a barrel.

What else do these big corporate buyers of oil need?

Another area of major business firms not acting in their own interests involves the proposal in Congress (HR 676) to establish a single-payer health insurance system. That would mean government health insurance, private delivery of health care, free choice of doctor and hospital and saving about half a trillion dollars in insurance company administrative expenses and computerized billing overcharges a year.

Presently, tens of millions of workers have employer-based health insurance. For years, CEOs have complained that this cost puts them at a competitive disadvantage with their corporate competitors abroad and in Canada where there is universal government health insurance.

Former General Motors CEO, Jack Smith, publicly approved of the Canadian medicare system, which he had experienced when he was head of GM Canada. Under full medicare, these companies will pay less even with an assessment.

So, what's up here? We don't see these weighty corporate lobbies on Capitol Hill supporting the 91 House members who have endorsed HR 676.

Then there is the small business lobby ostensibly represented by the large National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). Small business is regularly subject to government policies and market discriminations that put them at a disadvantage with their large competitors.

Presently, for example, a Small Business Administration report concludes the following:

"Small businesses in their commercial sector faced a 30 percent price differential for electricity and a 20 percent price differential for natural gas. In the manufacturing sector, small businesses faced a 28 percent price differential for distillate fuel oil, a 27 percent price differential for natural gas, and a 14 percent price differential for coal."

Are these volume discounts all fair for the Big Boys? Doubtful. Don't count on the NFIB to protest. More often than not, the NFIB talks small business but walks the walk of the National Chamber of Commerce, which primarily lobbies for the interests of large companies.

So, why the overall reticence to fight for their own economic interests? First, corporations do not like to fight each other because they may need each other on other matters. Second, hey also have exposable skeletons in their own closets. Third, they do not have to initiate a business war of retaliation. Fourth, they do not want to give their traditional labor, environmental and consumer adversaries cause to strengthen their own power by, in effect, siding with these groups' traditional causes.

If investors in this country had any power over the companies they own--as individuals, or through mutual funds and pension trusts--an inquiring process could open up on this fascinating question.

But as Robert Monks--a leading shareholder activist and writer--has said many times, those same CEOs have their own economic interests--think CEO compensation--in keeping investors powerless.

Ralph Nader is running for president as an independent.
