Palin speaks at tea party convention

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was in Nashville, Tennessee last night to address the first-ever national gathering of the tea party.

Her speech was heavy on folksy, applause lines -- "We win, they lose" was her answer on national security -- and light on specific policy proposals.

Wrote the Associated Press' Liz Sidoti:

"The speech also was rife with criticism for Obama and Democrats who control Congress, but delivered with a light touch. But, aside from broad conservative principles like lower taxes and a strong national defense, the speech was short on Palin's own policy ideas that typically indicate someone is seriously laying the groundwork to run for the White House."

Palin made little reference to her political future in the speech -- although a mention of "President Palin" brought chants of "Run Sarah run!" from the audience.

But, whether or not Palin runs for president in 2012, the night was almost certainly a success for her. "For Palin, the millions of tea party activists represent not only her political base but also her customer base," wrote the Post's Phil Rucker and Ann Gerhart. "They helped make her book a bestseller, put her speeches in high demand and tune in to her Fox News appearances."

One other point...Why is it you Liberals assume that anyone in the "Tea Party" movement is poor, uneducated, and out of work?????(Can't afford to attend conventions)
It's that kind of thinking that will remove all of you from Washington...real soon! The difference is.. that there are some middle Americans with money...that are willing to spend it on the fight for America and American's. Believe it or not....You do not have to be selfish and greedy....when you have money.

Also, Sarah did charge a fee to speak, (AS DO EVERY OTHER POLITICIAN IN AMERICA) However, she returned the money to the cause, "The People." Double standards in the voices of the elite Liberals once again make all you supposedly stand for..........
Appear IGNORANT AND UNEDUCATED/NON-INTELLIGENT. You really should look in the mirror and criticize yourselves before making ridiculous statements...American's have their eyes open NOW...towards a real change......2010/2012.

I am an Independent not a tea party member. I watched her whole speech because I knew the buzz would all be about her in the next week after. Why are so many Liberals afraid of her? The comments written here, make all of you Liberals sound condescending and arrogant.
That will be the lefts downfall. Most Americans are completely turned off by arrogance and that is the Liberals message we hear. I'm not sure who exactly the members are in the Tea Party movement, but as an Independent, We have already organized and are set to change any thing we can.....
In Washington.

If you want to point blame, point the blame to your Liberal self's. Take the credit for what is Not happening that should be. Take the credit for basically opening the American's eyes to the corruption of the Liberal Democratic elite few in our countries Government. Your current Administration in Washington...(esp. the press secretary)Really took the low road. Making fun of Sarah's notes on her hand during her speech. At least it was Her Speech and not something thrown together on a teleprompter. Many in college are even taught to use notes on the inside of the hand while giving a speech. Why??? So that the presenter does not miss main points. I would take someone who is actually involved in their speech/words than someone without a clue trying to read a teleprompter inconspicuously POOR!( appearing uneducated and ignorant in the eyes of those watching.)
I am not sure why Sarah scares Washington...But she certainly does. Bravo to her.

The bottom line is Americans do not want to be treated like, "Peasants" nor do we want Politics in Washington to simulate the corrupt Chicago style Politics. All the sneaky, name calling, career ruining actions....Believe me...America is watching. Americans want to be part of the process, not just important during re-election campaigns.. Washington...you have treated the Largest portion of Voters like we are second class citizens. Your treatment of Sarah Palin showed your true immature colors. Wasn't Mass./Senator Scott Brown enough of a warning for you???? Because change is truly coming whether you stay in denial or not. It is the Independents that will decide the outcome of 2010/2012. Haven't you learned anything yet?
With out us...Obama would be a no name person warming a seat in Senate....making no decisions via senate votes...( He cannot be held responsible for anything....If He never votes/ AKA Obamas Senate record)

**I once again must say that in the State of Illinois Corruption is rampate. eg. ***This is an example of Democratic politics in Illinois....They took a man who legally won primary for position of LT. Governor...with in less than a week, somehow they found a whole lot of negative Info. and ruined this mans career. Now The Democratic Party gets to decide who gets the job.....NOT THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS!!!! This is the corruption in Washington ..TODAY!

CLEAN HOUSE ILLINOIS AND WASHINGTON!

The loosely-organized tea parties that sprung up around the country last year were very convincing in their populist denouncement of big government. But now they have diminished their credibility by organizing as a national party and staging a premature convention, a media spectacle, with no clear platform and, worse, charging $560 for a ticket, not including travel and hotel expenses, an out-of-pocket $1,500 + expense that the majority of adherents, the backbone of the movement, many unemployed and struggling to make ends meet, could not possibly afford.

Then there was the $100,000 honorarium paid to Sarah Palin for the keynote speech. The hockey mom from Alaska had exhausted her store of ideas in the first five minutes of her very first speech at the 2008 Republican convention, so all she could deliver in the her Tea Party speech was an anti-Obama diatribe couched in a litany of social conservative platitudes, with much sneering, mocking and name-calling, but substance-wise not worth a miniscule fraction the $100,000, if that. Then, there was the staged question-and answer finale. After mocking Obama as a “charismatic guy behind a teleprompter,” even as read she read from a script on the lectern, she sat down to answer pre-rehearsed questions from a fawning host, with the aid of crib notes scribbled on the palm of her hand. But the audience overlooked it all. Their idol Sarah could do no wrong. And should she now assume the leadership of the Party, where would that leave the far better informed, better qualified Mark Skoda, the current leader? Playing second fiddle? Out in the cold?

As Friedrich Nietzsche noted, “Insanity in individuals is rare – but in groups, parties, nations, and epochs it is the rule.” (Beyond Good and Evil)

Going Rouge Has New Meaning:

Hey, Tea Bagger attended Dixieland Convention and Palin’s lovers why didn’t Charles Krauthammer’s my Special Olympics nominee ask Sister Sarah what was written on her left palm? Was this Todd Palin decision? It is clear that the first dude was running Alaska Governor’s Office. What I don’t understand about this crap, sister Sarah was for the tanning bed and the first dude was for the bridge-to-nowhere. It serves this them right. They are always taking the high road and they are no better than common thieves stealing electricity from their neighbors and slamming the president because a teleprompter, it is a visual aide made in the USA.

She used you people. She took your hard-earned dollars and buy her own books (68,000) to distribute them back to you. She gets to write off donations refund of 35% of $100,000 that equal to $35,000, make a profit of 15% by buying wholesale, and write down the full value of books in the first print editions. By manipulating the 15%, royalties that are equal to the first print edition she stands to gain $60,000 dollars. In addition, she and her entourage expense can also be written of $22,000 dollars. The total tax-free venture is estimated at $107,000 profit.

I have some questions for the Tea-Baggers at attended the Convention in Dixieland

1. Has Sister Sarah brand as a perfect candidate is now indefensible been damaged
2. Would Sister Sarah be better served by a teleprompter
3. Do Todd Palin has some explaining to do in front of a grand jury, for the use of government equipment
4. Did Todd’s have a official government position while he was involved in political nominees sandal
5. Did Todd involvement in the structure of a Alaska gas taxes, hindered state’ revenues too indigenous people
6. Will the Alaska ethic commission question two judges involved in the brother-in- law firing and related matters.
7. Why Sister didn’t call out Rush for using the “R” word
8. Mike Wallace gave Sister Sarah every chance to be a FOX News analyst and she read her palm and ramble on, and on

It is my opinion, that Sister Sarah and Brother Todd are Alaska hillbillies in Republican-Tea Baggers-Fiscal Conservatives-Anti-President Obama, sheep clothing’s. I can now can see Russia form my front porch and their two inmates going Rouge across hills.
She; does not at this time and place have the right to attack everyone else and think that your immediate family members are sacred territory. Her brand is damaged and Todd is skating on thin Alaskan Ice.

Going easy on a couple of rouges, Haaaaaaaaaaah, Haaaaaaaaaaah, I have soda running down my nose.

What is going on with the rise of a leftist aristocracy? Al Gore becomes a multimillionaire railing about reducing our lifestyle in accord with the pseudoscience of his climate-change gurus? John Edwards built a mansion to better voice his sermons on “two nations”? From his estates, John Kerry limoed and jetted in Kennedy-fashion to warn us about a cruel jobless vision of George Bush’s America?

A zillionaire Gates family, that has ensured there will be no federal inheritance taxes on their $50 billion, lectures on the benefits of higher inheritance taxes; a speculating Soros expounds on capitalism’s sins; a billionaire, tax-savvy Buffet laments the too-low federal income tax; a multimillionaire, low-ratings Katie Courac bristles at Palinism as her network lays off hoi polloi. And on and on.

Yet rarely is voiced the common denominator. High Liberalism is now a psychological manifestation, by which the very rich, immune to both the realities of tough living and the hurt of high taxes, finds solace, self-worth, penance even, by sympathy for big government entitlement for the less fortunate whom they connive hourly to avoid. Prep schools are jammed with the children of those who damn charter schools and vouchers; environmentalism’s most articulate advocates of small is better live in ways undreamed by the masses they wish to rein in. The greatest advocates of public expenditure, whether a Rangel, Geithner, or Daschle, are quite busy ensuring that they themselves will not have to pay for it all.

Yes, it’s a mad, mad world, after all — proof positive that the enormous engine of capitalism, when married to the absolute freedom of Western democracy, results in some very funny things indeed. To make sense of it all the contradictions, we lie — increasingly about almost everything.

Also, an interesting sidenote to all of this - whites around the country know NOTHING of this black liberation philosophy - and many don't believe it when they are told.

It is amazing.

Whites in Chicago I found know something of it - as opposed to whites around the nation - There were several Aldermen in Chicago over the past few decades who have had various stances over the past few decades - reported in the Chicago papers at the time - some of this in the 90s or maybe 80s before people around the country could read the papers over the internet.

So the whites in Chicago have had some exposure to the black liberation thinking through the statements of these Alderman through the years - as reported in the Chicago papers.

Your point about Obama knowing what was going on with the philosophy at Rev. Wright's church is correct - I was trying to make that point as well.

Obama had to know - there is absolutely no doubt.

The reason is there are many in the black community in Chicago who have been there only once or twice or 3 times - and they were fully aware of the philosophy - an economic-based black liberation theology.

The blacks I spoke to - and there were over 50 - many were extremely specific about the philosophy and extremely specific about why they disagreed with its thinking - it was not a casual breeze-over - they were specific on the details.

So Obama HAD TO KNOW - There is absolutely no doubt.

It is important to point out that vast majority of the black community has appeared to reject this thinking -

It is also equally important to point out that Obama kept going back to the Church - with his children - and giving that Church $20,000 one year - so Obama did not reject that philosophy.

Obama could have given that $20,000 to a different black Church which had a different philosophy.

I'm not saying I am an expert on Black Churches - however a little bit of looking into it can yield a GREAT DEAL more information than the newspapers report.

I agree with you - Obama almost campaigned on being a CENTRIST - and it appeared that he was making the commitment to be CENTRIST when he promised over and over again to be bipartisan.

However, your analysis is correct, there are vast periods in Obama's history which appear to reflect a far, far far left-wing tendency which is dangerous.

My concern is that Obama is trying to appoint these far-left wing people into the government and they are pulling all sorts of things under the radar.

To be specific, I did not expect Obama to appoint conservatives - but there is a huge difference between moderate democrats and liberals - and these far left-wing radical left.

The media likes to ignore that the far radical left is there - but they are and some of them are working in the administration now.

I remember Palin and the rest of your conservative clowns dissing Obama for using a telepromter and Palin uses notes on her hand like she's cheating in an 8th grade math exam. Obama has a few failures but you might try adding up Bush and the GOP failures of the last years:
The biggest ones allowing 911 to happen on their watch.

Starting the Iraq war based on lies and flip-flopping everytime they were asked WHY the lied about WMD.

Creating the worst financial disaster in this country since the big depression then sitting back and criticizing everything the current administration does.

All the conservatives do is criticize but never, never put forth an viable solutions except for more tax cuts for the wealthy or calling rescinding tax cuts for the wealthy as raising taxes.

The GOP and the last administration completely mismanaged both wars especially the Afghan war.

So the GOP and their constituents have NO room to talk. They're a do nothing party especially when it comes to really helping the least of us or who are in trouble.

They the GOP make big messes, walk away and blame the Dems for not having cleaned up after the ELEPHANTS literally. If there's one thing the GOP is good at is creating a circus as distraction.

'the war card"

'This morning on Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace conducted a 25-minute interview with Sarah Palin, a paid contributor to Fox News. Palin told Wallace that she doesn’t think President Obama will win reelection in 2012 if he “continues on the path he has America on.” However, Palin indicated that his chances of winning would dramatically change if Obama simply declared war on Iran:

WALLACE: How hard do you think President Obama would be to defeat in 2012?

PALIN: It depends on a few things, say he played — I got this from Buchanan — say he played the war card. Say he decided to declare war on Iran or decide to really come out and do whatever he could to support Israel–which I would like him to do. That changes the dynamics of what we can assume will happen between now and three years. Because I think if the election were today, Obama would not be elected.

WALLACE: You’re not suggesting that Obama would cynically play the war card?

PALIN: I’m not suggesting that, I’m saying if he did, things would dramatically change."

Cynical enough for ya? She'd declare war just to win an election.

My God, this woman is a tragic f*cking clown -- a cartoon, a travesty, a national embarrassment. Nice job licking her stillettos, Chris... after she cackled crap like this:

"And then, I think, kinda tougher to, kinda tougher to put our arms around, but, allowing America's spirit to rise again by not being afraid [applause] not being afraid to kinda go back to some of our roots as a God-fearing nation [applause] where we're not afraid to say, especially in times of potential trouble in the future here, we're not afraid to say, "You know, we don't have all the answers as fallible men and women so it would be wise of us to start seeking some divine intervention again in this country," so that we can be safe and secure and prosperous again."

I'm sure she'll be able to find some cracker televangelist to give her 'guidance' directly from God.

"Specifically, [Police Superintendent]Corbitt rejected a recent Page Six report that a trooper on [disabled NY Governor]Paterson's security detail discovered the governor in a utility closet [unfounded smear omitted] and that this incident spurred Paterson to change protocols and bar troopers from the residence altogether."

Bottom line: smear "rejected."

37thand0street. You're correct that it was the Main Stream Media that successfully censored all of Barack Obama's Communist and racist and vile white--hating past that is the reason why white Democrap Socialists voted for him. Had the MSM done so, Obama would never have gotten elected.

Obama's, the MSM's, and his adoring cult-member fans like Noacoler, broadwayjoe, et al's excuse has always been that Obama was never actually present when Wright made those racist anti--white and anti--American sermons (which is pretty hard to believe, since Obama has claimed that he goes to that church regularly, and has done so for over 20 years), but even that excuse has been proven a lie.
In a column in Newsmax by writer Jim Davis (who is black), first published on August 9,2007 "Obama Attended Hate America Sermon", and by the "Washington Insider" by Ronald Kessler. Mr. Davis reported that (condensed): "..he attended several services at Senator Obama's church during the month of July, including July 22. Senator Obama was present and sat through the sermon given by Rev. Wright when the minister blamed the 'white arrogance of Americas Caucasian majority for the world's suffering, especially the oppression of blacks". Mr Davis wrote that on that day "..Wright tore into America, referring to the 'United States of White America' and lacing his sermon with expletives as Obama listened. Hearing Wright's attack on his own country, Obama had the opportunity to walk out, but he just sat in his pew nodding in aggreement. Addressing the Iraq War, Wright thundered, 'Young African-American men' were 'dying for nothing". "The illegal war, he shouted, was based on Bush's lies and is being fought for oil money".
There's more, but it would make a book so to he** with it.

NOW Obama wants to televise a sit-down negotiation with the Republicans.

Obama can not expect the Republicans to hand him a victory - not after all the attitude Obama had over the past year.

It's going to be tricky - for both sides. Certainly, Obama's "politics of blame" over the past few weeks has NOT set the right atmosphere for productive sessions, but let us see.

Obama can't think that he is going to slam the Republicans - and blame them the whole way through - and try to make them the bad guys.

Obama is on the verge of looking like a spoiled brat - "If you don't give me what I want, I'm going to cry and make you look bad." That is not going to work.

Well.

Obama can not expect a full forum in which he is the only one able to give a smack-down - and respond to every point.

If Obama is not being bipartisan or centrist, the Republicans are going to smack him down - call Obama out for his lack of bipartisanship - and lack of centrist policies.

See once Obama starts with the calling out - and the trouble making - then he sets the tone for the Republicans to do the same thing back at him.

Obama really shouldn't be thinking that he is going to be able to get away with what he did in Baltimore.

Obama is really becoming slimy - he will try to get away with as much as he can - can then complain if he gets it back - life isn't that way - and Obama can not expect to be treated like a child.

Well stated Armpeg

If only the Washington Post and the mainstream media had told that story to America

Half of Obama's supporters would never believe it.

I would like to add one comment -

Of all the black people I spoke to in Chicago - which there were probably well over 50 - I was astonished to hear that ALL of them had been to Rev. Wright's church.

Trinity Church is extremely well known in the black community - and everyone in the black community appeared to be WELL AWARE of what was going on there.

There was ABSOLUTELY no dispute among the black people I spoke to that a racist idealogy was preached there.

What they then said stuck me : almost everyone said - "I went once and I didn't like it - I go somewhere else" or "I haven't been there in years"

The philosophy is WELL KNOWN in the black community, but the black don't support it.

Perhaps 20% - 30 % of the black community holds those views.

Many of the people I spoke to were VERY SPECIFIC about what they thought was wrong with Rev. Wright's church - and what their views were that differed.

So, yes, there is a racist philosophy there which the mainstream media REFUSES TO REPORT.

White people really are not aware of what is going on.

The Blacks know about it - to a person - but they do not support it.

NO ONE I spoke to said they went to that Church for years, or that they brought their children there.

In other words, the blacks I spoke to didn't support the Church and were not members.

However they had all been there - and they all knew about it.

Very interesting.

It is also very interesting that the media will not tell you about this.

No surprise there though.
The race card is always the first gambit the ghetto-black Obama--worshippers trot out against anyone who isn't one of their tribe, and who disagrees with anyone of their race. The irony of these racists though is the fact that the person that they're trying to defend with their race card gambit was--and probably still is--a racist white--hater for all of his adult life. In college his mentors from 1971 to 1979 included James Combs, Frank Marshall Davies, and Paul Robeson, all Communists, all--anti Semetics, and all white--haters. James Combs was leader of the Black Liberation Front that was teaching the Malcolm X philosopy of hatred for white people, Jews, and our country. Frank Marshall Davies (who Obama was particularly close to) and Paul Robeson were leaders of CPUSA (Communist Party USA). Out of college and now in Chicago, Barack Obama's friends and associates were Weather Underground America--haters and terrorists Bill Ayres and Bernadine Dorhn. Obama also then joins the racist white--hating and America--hating cult Trinity UFC Church, and stays in the racist cult for over 20 years. While in this racist cult, laughably called 'church', Obama's friends that he schmoozes with, are racist white--haters Jerimiah Wright Jr, and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
It takes a lot of chutzpa for the racists broadwayjoe and Noacoler to try to frame Sarah Palin with their phony race card gambit, when the guy they're trying to defend, Barack Obama, was a racist white--hater for all of his adult life.
Noacoler and broadwayjoe should look into a mirror to see the real racists here.

But if the GOP ran her anyway and something horrible happened to Obama and by a sick twist or a quasi coup she made it into office, we're not talking about just a Bush rerun with a dash of Hee-Haw, we're talking about nuclear weapons, massive environmental destruction, and not at all unlikely the end if civilization, all faced without blinking. So here's CC coming into the office on a Sunday to gush over Sarah "governor for a short time" Palin.  As though Palin is ever going to articulate a vision for a new America, as though Palin is ever going to inspire anyone to do good or to make sacrifices or to do anything but hate other people.  "Merchant of hate" is an apt description.  That's all she does.  Her applause lines are never inspirational, they're always puerile gotcha-garbage, satisfying snark appealing only to nasty-grimies who'd call Obama by the N-word, people who resent the educated, people who're outraged at blacks and gays on TV.

The idea that Palin would ever appeal to enough people to win a national election, even with the most depressed turnout among the opposition, isn't even ludicrous enough to be funny.  And the cinder of a planet we'd have if this happened isn't funny at all.

It's a betrayal of the role of our once free press that Palin is cast as a legitimate political force.

On Friday I made a post about what great news it was that the unemployment rate had dropped to 9.7%. I got some grief from zook/moonbat/drivl/that one about how that number wasn't good news -- it just meant people had quit looking for work.

Well, the very economics, statistics and chart-driven folks at Fivethirtyeight have an exceptional column explaining just what a very good thing that 9.7% represents. I realize zook/moonbat/drivl/that one LIVES for bad news, no matter how much misery it represents, but still, I invite him to go to http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2010/02/look-at-employment.html
and get schooled. That .3% drop in unemployment was a legitimate improvement, not smoke and mirrors, and shows that the chief lagging indicator for this recession is indeed turning the corner.

Palin ghostwriter Lynn Vincent (who coauthored book with an alleged white supremacist blogger). Dot.
S-mbo-gate. Dot.
Quoting racist and antisemite Westbroook Pegler at GOP convention. Dot.
Unfortunate encounter with Gregory Charles Royal. Dot.
Conncetions with Alaskan secessionist movement. Dot.
Embrace of racist proxy movements such as the teabaggers and the deathers. Dot.
Inability to remember name of vice president (Biden) despite multiply tries. Dot.
Inability to identify a single newspaper she has read. Dot.

The MSM is complicit in this silly deification of Mrs. Palin.

They know full well she is completely unfit to be POTUS. She's probably unfit to be night manager at Arby's. Charley James's piece on Palin remains the only sourced profile of her we have read. Notably, not a single word in his story has been challenged or refuted to our knowledge. Every now and and then it would be nice if the MSM would simply report on her rather than bloviate.

For someone who makes offensive comments all the time, it is difficult for me to understand why you believe that it is wrong for others to make offensive remarks as well.

Offensive remarks are offensive remarks.

I have no idea why you think that your offensive remarks are any different from any other offensive remarks.

When you use an offensive remark, you are basically green lighting all offensive remarks.

Yet you persist in this twisted line of thought, and you seek to draw others into this way of thinking.

37, you may want to read this excerpt from a piece by journalist Rich Benjamin:

"How fitting, therefore, that Sarah Palin keynote the movement's first organized confab. Neglected in all the fevered conversation around the movement's meteoric rise, and Palin's selection, is any useful reflection on what the cause and this figurehead stand for: white racial resentment. Packed beneath her beehive is a spitfire brew of optimistic, yet aggrieved, whiteness. Palin embodies a bizarre, sometimes alluring, combination of triumph and complaint that many Caucasian Tea Partiers identify with through and through.

Deciphering the racial codes on the movement's ubiquitous placards does not require a doctorate in semiotics. One popular sign shows the president's face and a caption: "Undocumented worker." Another combines Obama's image with this caption: "The Zoo Has an African Lion and the White House Has a Lyin' African!""

Obama's "Cocaine Binge" Budget is going to run up the debt in this country like nothing else.

The country needs to find a way to stop Obama from spending so much - and the budget has to be wise about what we are spending money on.

The mainstream media, in the interest of creating a faux horserace in 2012, is going to present Palin as serious contender even though she has never articulated a serious policy thought (see McCain campaign comments)--and so far has not been subjected to a legitimate interview by a legitimate journalist.

From Fix's coworkers today on Palin's "speech."

"In a 40-minute speech at the inaugural National Tea Party Convention, she embraced the grass-roots movement of disaffected conservatives, calling it "ours," and said that "America is ready for another revolution." She called the country's national debt a "generational theft," adding that "many of us have had enough.""

"Another revolution"?

More Palin:

"In the speech, Palin derisively referred to Obama as a "charismatic guy with a teleprompter," but speaking from her notes, she misspoke when she said U.S. policies might discourage those who see "Alaska as a beacon of hope." She presumably meant to say America."

Others report that she made numerous glances to a palm pilot during the speech--kinda like looking at a teleprompter?

You betcha...
_______

This is what working journalists are saying about the Tea Party and their events. Excerpt from Michale Stone's article:

"Suggesting a literacy test is nothing short of calling for a return to Jim Crow laws. Under Jim Crow laws literacy tests were used to prevent blacks from voting during segregation. They were banned by the Voting Rights Act in 1964.

Tancredo blamed the election of Obama on "the cult of multiculturalism." Such remarks are code to rally the racists. Calling for a literacy test, complaining about those not speaking English, lamenting our multi-cultural society, are part and parcel of a well established racist code. Tancredo's remarks are like blowing a dog whistle, calling all racists."

With the help of our allies the majority our troops will be returning home from Afghanistan. They are already returning home from Iraq.

As for the economy we have Paul Krugman and Robert Reich our side. Despite inheriting a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit from the 8 years of Bush/Republicans main street will survive.”

How IRONIC it is that you are accusing a group of people of wanting to bring back what the democratic party supported in the 1920s.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

And your language is offensive.

Everything about you is offensive.

You are really being silly now - You appear to forget that the Republicans freed the slaves.

You forget that the democratic party worked with the KKK.

You forget a great number of things - your view of history is selective - and you forget how the democratic party supported the cross burnings.

MTP had a great discussion on Palin's speech this morning. She definitely is running for President!

It is always encouraging when MSM journalists call out bigotry rather rationalize it.

Excerpt from Dr. Rachel Maddow's interview of conference opening speaker Tom Tancredo:

"FMR. REP. TOM TANCREDO (R-CO): Mostly because I think we do not have a civics literacy test before people can vote in the country, people who could not even spell the word, "vote," or say it in English, put a committed, socialist ideologue in the White House. The name is Barack Hussein Obama.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MADDOW: Just for reference here, when Tom Tancredo talks about literacy tests, that`s what they used in the south to keep black people from voting before civil rights legislation and court rulings put a stop to that.

So the convention opened with a clarion call to bring back the literacy tests for voting. And as you could hear, the tea party convention crowd erupted in cheers at the suggestion, although, to be fair, it was sort of hard to tell exactly what the sounds coming from the crowd meant. They were sort of a little bit muffled by, you know, the white hoods."
______

37, once you step outside Drudge World, the perception of these "conventioners" is quite different. Cheering a return to Jim Crow???

alexeipg, I'd also like to hear her policy plan for getting the country out of this recession, her ideas for the Fed and Wall Street, how she plans to make America safer from terrorism, her vision for tax reform and government reduction and how that would drive local taxes, infrastructure maintenance, the future focus of our military, new steps in disaster planning, the agricultural complex (I see she is very involved in her children's nutrition), foreign affairs, and how she hopes to sell America on her conservative social agenda.

She delivered platitudes on a few "feel good" subjects dear to her base -- but she gave us absolutley nothing of substance and steered well-clear of details on anything. TEA party remains agenda-less.

Getting back to the topic, 600 registered for the full convention events, but another 500 paid a reduced ticket price just for the speech. 300-400 press were covering the events, of course broadcast live to millions. Much better than the GOP's first convention in 1856.

Since you are bringing up the Klan in order to justify your hatred, it would be useful to point out that in Indiana, candidates for office who sought the democratic nomination used to have to sign a pledge to support the KKK.

In Indiana, the democratic party and the Klan worked hand in hand.

This continued for years, until a democratic party official was involved in a scandal which involved the rape of a girl - only then did people turn away from this arrangement.

You really should get your history down.

Funny how you bring up the history of the 1920s - a time when the Klan worked with the Democratic Party to suppress the black community.

In fact, the Klan controlled delegates to the Democratic National Convention, and Presidential candidates, while seeking the democratic nomination, regularly sought the support of the KKK.

In fact, the KKK was formed in great part to oppose and reverse the REFORMS PUT INTO PLACE BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

You really should get to know your history before you start off on the history lessons.

And figure out who is who.

No matter how many times Palin intones that her crowd is the "real America," most actual voters despise this sort of partisan pow-wow. Independents are tired of partisan politics and the extremes of both parties. Palin and the Tea Partiers are sorely out of touch.

_______________

Reminiscent of George Allen's "real Virginia" comment during his infamous macaca moment? Palinisms like "real America," "real amuuricuns," and the need for a "revolution" to "take back America" are, as legitimate journalists know, familiar codewords in the supremacist community.

Many commentators, including RFK, Jr., picked up on the fact that Palin quoted Westbrook Pegler, the late racist, anti-semite icon, in her speech at the GOP convention in 2008. The Pegler shout-out was seen as a powerful dogwhistle to the supremacist/separatist communities.

"But, whether or not Palin runs for president in 2012, the night was almost certainly a success for her."
_______

It most certainly was. She reportedly collected a fee of more than $100.000. As her almost son-in-law Levi Johnston has indicated, with her, it's all about the money.

BTW, what is the factual basis for the reference above to "millions of tea party activists"?

To our knowledge, only about 600 or so registered for this Nashville hate fest. The most successful bag events have never attracted more than 10,000 or so of these "activists." In fact, the most socio-, er, political activists who have shown up for any such "event" were the 40,000 Klanspersons who attended such rallies in the 1920s. Civil rights groups estimate total Klan membership today at no more than 100,000.

Also, can we finally dispense with the cover issues that media sympathizers tell us motivate the bags, i.e., that they are fighting against the "creep of socialism" in this Administration?

Gimme a break. The opening conference speaker, who just happens to be an icon in the organized hate community, seemed to advocate a return to Jim Crow era literacy tests for those seeking to vote! And then there's the matter of the founder and president of the Tea Party carrying an n-word sign at an earlier bag event. Seriously, can a movement ever walk back from publicly waving n-word signs?

Many of goodwill believe this bagger event is the most pathetic in the history of the United States since 40,000 Klanspersons matched down Pennsylvania Avenue on August 8, 1925.

It was a "success"??? Are you kidding? She was a nervous wreck, offered no substance but the usual tired bromides, all with 2nd-grade written notes on her hand. And the leg rubbing! body language doesn't lie; she was trying desperately to be believed. Now I don't doubt the 'faithful' love her, but she doesn't have the intellectual depth OR curiosity to be a viable candidate. But her narcissism on full display, "I'll die for you!" schtick, Evita from Wasilla is going to do her level best to bust open that door that she insists God is opening for her, regardless of the consequences, because she really does think she has been chosen by God.

It was very difficult to squeeze all of obama's failures into a 45 minute speech but she made a valiant try. Reminding the voters of these errors in liberal policy will be the key to victory in nov.
