The pick of Charlotte, North Carolina as the site of the 2012 Democratic National Convention shocked many in the political world. (Former Fix boss and political handicapper Charlie Cook had to eat a crow!)
But, there was significant strategy and symbolism wrapped up in the pick as the White House sought to make clear that they plan to re-build the 2008 coalition that saw President Obama win a sweeping 365 electoral vote victory that including a win in North Carolina.
