Moderating the VA-Gov Debate

The Fix will step out of his secret undisclosed blogging location this afternoon to co-moderate a debate between the three Democrats running for governor in Virginia this fall.

The debate, which will be held at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, is the final time the three candidates -- former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe, former state Del. Brian Moran and state Sen. Creigh Deeds -- will appear on stage together before the June 9 primary.

The Fix along with NewsChannel 8's Bruce DePuyt will be asking the questions, a combination of those we dreamed up and a handful submitted by Washington Post readers.

The debate gets started at 2 p.m. and the Post is live streaming it on our site. In the area? Come down and check it out.

A sidenote: Due to our moderating responsibilities, posting on the Fix will be light for the rest of the day.

I attended the debate yesterday and have a couple of comments. The timers were poorly placed, first where the candidates couldn't see them because of lights and then way off to the side where they still couldn't see them. I think the two young men in charge of the timing were poorly trained as they continually let things run over and their yellow clipboard didn't let the candidate know how much time they had left. Better control could help the moderators keep things moving.

Excuse me but I haven't seen anything proprietary on any of Chris' threads--everybody is just spouting off whatever comes to mind and it gets pretty entertaining sometimes. Just don't take it seriously. As for plagiarism--read any that sounds remotely original lately?

you can't bust a blogger for taking content.. but you can bust a reporter for taking blogger's content..

DDAWD: it's just that the guy is such a damned nuisance, the one time he appears to have put some work into a post it turns out to be someone else's. Now his nuisancehood is tempered by the fact of his proven dishonesty. Of course being a stupid gooper troll he has no shame.

This is like busting Ashlee Simpson for lip synching. Who cares? Not like either is talented or insightful.

Caught the debate: Great job, Chris!

Substantively, it was much like the Presidential debates--a lot of sparring between the participants, but from safe distances, but I'm just waiting for when you moderate a 2012 debate.
