Nikki Haley wins South Carolina primary, Rep. Bob Inglis loses

Haley450.jpgSouth Carolina GOP governor's nominee Nikki Haley.

South Carolina state Rep. Nikki Haley cruised to the Republican nomination for governor tonight, a victory that makes her not just the frontrunner for the office this fall but a likely national GOP star.

Haley crushed Rep. Gresham Barrett in the runoff race, an expected result given that she took 49 percent of the June 8 primary vote -- narrowly missing the chance to win the nomination outright. The Associated Press called the runoff race for Haley at 8 p.m. eastern time.

"This is a story about determination, and a story about a movement," said Haley in her victory speech tonight. "This was the best grassroots, underdog campaign we have ever seen."

Haley also credited former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who endorsed her candidacy, for giving the campaign a "boost we needed when we needed it."

In other South Carolina races, Spartanburg County prosecutor Trey Gowdy (R) easily defeated Rep. Bob Inglis (R) in the 4th district -- making Inglis the third House incumbent to lose a bid for re-nomination this year.

State Rep. Tim Scott (R) also claimed victory in the 1st district runoff; Scott's likely victory positions him to be the first black Republican in Congress since Oklahoma Rep. J.C. Watts' retirement in 2002.

In Utah, attorney Mike Lee overcame former congressional candidate Tim Bridgewater in the GOP primary to replace Sen. Robert Bennett (R-Utah) and will be a heavy, heavy favorite to be the state's next senator. After the two men unseated Bennett at the state GOP convention last month, Bridgewater beat Lee in a vote of party activists. But Lee led 52 percent to 48 percent when the AP called the race Tuesday.

Blue Dog Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) had an easy night, despite a scare from liberal primary challenger Claudia Wright. Matheson, who opposed the Democratic-led healthcare bill, spent $800,000 on the primary but won with more than two-thirds of the vote.

Meanwhile, in North Carolina, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall bested former state Sen. Cal Cunningham to win the right to face Sen. Richard Burr (R) in the fall.

National Democrats had spent nearly $200,000 on Cunningham in hopes of pushing him across the line against Marshall but he came nowhere close. Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (N.J.) described Marshall as a "proven reformer" in the wake of her win.

But, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas) described her as a "rubberstamp" for President Barack Obama's agenda.

The South Carolina governor's runoff was the marquee event of the night, however.

Even before Haley had officially become the nominee, the Republican Governors Association had all-but-endorsed her -- recognizing that an Indian-American woman as their nominee was a terrific national storyline.

Given Haley's background and the primacy of South Carolina in the 2012 Republican presidential primary process, she will almost certainly become a national figure in short order.

Scott, too, will likely have a higher profile than most freshman Members of Congress due to his unique status in the Republican conference.

"These are exciting times for our party," said Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement released after the South Carolina results.

Just did some fact-check edits for you, 37. No prob.

BTW, BHO stands for..."Barack Hussein Obama," the real name that he uses and is proud of. He's not calling himself "Barry O'Bannion."

By contrast, Nimrata does not use her real name but tries to fool the SC Yahoos and bigots by calling herself "Nikki."

Case closed.

My name? Randhawa. Nimrata Randhawa.

Not happening.
_____________

Based on information now coming from SC, Nim's name IS an huge issue. Word is that Goober and Gomer are just now focusing on her; very few South Carolinians participated in the primary. Nim's use of a fake name and inauthentic Bible beating, they say, is part of a big opportunistic con.

Look, seriously, if it weren't a huge issue, Nim would use her REAL name: "Nimrata Kaur Randhawa." But she's not. It's always "Nikki Haley" because she knows full well the bigoted baggers in SC will not cast a single vote for "Nimrata Kaur Randhawa."

Just sayin'.

Nimrata has reportedly told the Asian media that she doesn't use her real name in the SC governor race because ... "Nimrata Kaur Randhawa" won't fit on a yard sign. Oh, so that's the reason. Hilarious.

Nim, could there be any other reason for your using a fake name (Nikki Haley)?

What if BHO had gone around calling himself Barry Hugh Sein?

Out.

its patently ridiculous for S Carolina
Ds to insist that Nikki Haley campaign under her maiden name. Candidates use their married names and nicknames all the time on the ballot and to complain about that is simply unproductivewhining and bad politics. I could care less what her name is it is her policy positions I oppose.

And didn't we spend a whole day debating whether Bobby Jindal was a serious POTUS
candidate until he opened his mouth in
a response to the SOTU. The Fix is obviously
desperate to drive any R story regardless of its merits but I would urge S Carolina Ds
to give it up about attacking her use of her name. That has ALWAYS been a losing political
strategy.

This blog is really dying... just like the R party is cheerleads:

"Karl Rove's new fundraising group pledged to raise $52 million to spend on Republican candidates in November. Based on last month's tally, it may take them a little longer to reach their goal -- 21,667 years, to be precise.

Rove's group raised only $200 last month, according to a filing with the Internal Revenue Service. The group, a 527 organization set up by Rove and Ed Gillespie, is called "American Crossroads." But now it would seem American Crossroads is at, well, a crossroads."

Rs flibustered the bill last week as reported
by ABC "Senate Democrats failed for the second time in a week to get the 60 votes needed to pass the bill. "

that is one of the dumbest post I have read

If it stays in effect, Doctors will begin to opt out of Medicare- reducing the availability of services. It it reverts back, then claims will need to be resubmitted a second time, costing all of us millions in administrative fees!

Where is the Washington Post on this Story?

Pelosi wants a jobs bill tied to this approval- let it be considered alone on its merits and get our parents' doctors paid!

Male or Female Republican does not make any difference, what matters is that Republicans are utter complete lunatics.
To be exact what this means is that Republicans will say any Lunatic thing, any LIEs, to get away with their real agenda,
which real agenda are the following 2 MAIN things:
1- To give American people as little as possible for the Taxes that we pay,
2- To enable the Wall Street Gang and their Agents to get as rich as they can off the back of the American middle class (people) by not having the Government (of the People by the People for the People) regulate what they can do for the benefit of the People, such as regulate them from charging criminal level interest rates of 20%, or have Universal nationalized health care, as they have in ALL Europeans countries, Canada, Japan, Australia, etc.

So if you were wondering why is South Carolina such a poor miserable state, ranking in the bottom of almost all economic statistics, if you were wondering how is it that a State that has such an strategic location with some of the most beautiful beaches is one of the poorest states, if you were wondering why is it that NOT EVEN one major high tech company is home grown in SC, whereas a liberal place like San Francisco area has dozens and dozens of high tech companies home grown there? THEN you have your answer pretty much by the FACT that SC is being covered by Republican lunatics.

If you care about your future, about your children's future, then wake up to the lunatics that Republicans are and fight to elect independent representatives who are truly liberal, which means represent YOU the People rather than being agents of Big corporations and the Wall Street gang, saying any lunatic lie to get away with this Con Job. From the Chicago Sun-Times, on the Blago trial:

On another tape just played by prosecutors, Rod Blagojevich is heard talking to John Harris over the phone on Nov. 3, 2008 -- the day before the election.

They are discussing how Barack Obama is sending two representatives -- union leaders Tom Balanoff and Andy Stern -- to visit to talk about Valerie Jarrett.

______________________________________

I wonder what happened in the conversations between Blago and the union officials - the officials which Obama sent - union leaders Tom Balanoff and Andy Stern - IF ANY OFFER OF A JOB WAS MADE TO BLAGO BY THESE UNION OFFICIALS.

If there was ANY OFFER - OR DISCUSSION OF AN OFFER, THEN THAT WOULD BE AN ILLEGAL OFFER IN EXCHANGE FOR THE APPOINTMENT.

That would be a felony.

Same as the Sestak-Obama scandal.

Same as the Romanoff-Obama scandal.

All together, that amounts to a RICO charge.

I wish you both the best of luck, Nikki Haley and Tim Scott. I was really engaged by J.C. Watts of Oklahoma, he was a brilliant young man. I suspect that he was quite disgusted with the House and it's corruption but it can only be changed from the inside. I was so sorry to see him quit.

I also suspect that Zell Miller of Georgia was equally disgusted with the Senate and probably for the same reasons. He as much as said so in several forums and Zell was a Democrat, I think he said a Truman Democrat. Believe me when I say that the Democrats of Truman's day are more like the old Republicans than you might realize.....if it were Truman in the White House I could easily live with that.

The man who sits there now has absolutely no affinity for the usual beliefs of most Americans when it comes to everyday values. Most of us do NOT like a podium with NO Stars and Stripes. We don't like a National Day of Prayer ignored......the National Day of Prayer does NOT specify what religion is to be favored. It is for all religions and if you are an atheist, feel free to pray to Gaia, the great spirit or Mickey Mouse if you wish or to yourself, nobody really cares.

Thank you South Carolina for these delightful fresh new faces in politics. To the Democrats, I would say that you are now reaping what you have sown.....too many ugly far left people that have turned the electorate against you. We evidently want no more of the likes of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi!!

Remember, on Tuesday November 2, 2010....time to TAKE OUT THE TRASH!

I don't know if Obama can grant amnesty to ALL the illegal aliens in the country at once.

Obama probably needs Congress to do that.

The reason is this: Obama has the power of the pardon - but that this to pardon for a crime.

So Obama can PARDON an illegal alien for being in this country today and in the past,

BUT TOMORROW THE ILLEGAL ALIEN WOULD STILL BE ILLEGAL.

ONLY CONGRESS CAN CHANGE THE LAW, AND IF AN ILLEGAL ALIEN GOT A PARDON TODAY, TOMORROW THAT ALIEN WOULD BE BREAKING THE LAW AGAIN.

There are limits to executive power.

If Obama refused to enforce the immigration laws, that would be a breach of his oath of office - and AN IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE.

It is unbelievable how close to illegal behavior Obama has come this year.

Our 44th President was proudly sworn in as "Barack Hussein Obama." He didn't pretend to be "Barry Hugh Sein." Nim needs to go forward under her real name, "Nimrata Kaur Randhawa," not "Nikki Haley." The Sikh community would be so proud if she did -- but, of course, she won't. Sad. Oh well.

This is WHAT KIND OF PRESIDENT WE HAVE:

Obama wants to give AMNESTY TO MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS - many of which have never paid taxes, they are tax evaders, just like the Secretary of the Treasury and Charlie Rangel.

and yet Obama is about to fire a GENERAL FOR WHAT IS ESSENTIALLY LOCKER-ROOM TALK.

Does Obama have a complete lack of judgement ???

37, you have it backwards, per usual.

Nimrata has (allegedly) disavowed the sikh faith. It's the SIKH community that's wondering why Nim is running around SC calling herself "Nikki" and waving the bible. Sikhs question why Nim isn't using her real name on the general election ballot and cutting out this sad ruse.

From CNN on Mrs. Randhawa:
_____________

"Haley, born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa, still attends Sikh services occasionally with her parents and extended family. In 2004, after winning her first term in the state legislature, the Charlotte Observer quoted Haley as saying she and her family attend "both" Methodist and Sikh services.

As routine as that may sound to families of mixed faith, her ties to the Sikh tradition have left some evangelicals in the state uneasy.

Ray Popham, pastor of Oasis Church International in Aiken, said Haley's religion is a "big topic" among his congregants, who have posted notes about her religion on Facebook and have lately approached him for advice about the governor's race.

"She claims to be a Christian but also attends a Sikh temple and was married in a Sikh ceremony, so a lot of people can't figure how you can claim both," Popham told CNN. "I think she needs to be straight up with people, if she is both. If she believes that you can be both, then she should say that up front."

Tony Beam, the interim pastor of Mount Creek Baptist church in Greenville, hosts a radio show called "Christian Worldview Today." He recently posed a question to his listeners: Is Nikki Haley being honest about her faith?"

Haley will be fighting to win and the racist who hate minorities. Will Haley continue to celebrate Confederate Month? As Frank Rich pointed out, candidates running against baggers and other racis-, er, ultraconservatives rarely call them on on their positions, e.g., abolition of the civil rights act and social security, "Second Amendment" solutions to deal with Members of Congress they don't like, etc. The baggers get away with saying they oppose taxes and big government and avoid talk of their racist proxy agenda, see Ron and Rand Paul.

If Sheheen runs some good ads and is able to expose Mrs. Nimrata Kaur Randhawa as a phony if she is (the sikh news sites do not portray Nim as the bible-beating Jerry Falwell-ite she pretends to be), he wins. Or if more info on Nim's "personal outreach" comes out.

Obama Approval Rating Reaches New Low: Hispanic Support for Obama Slips, especially among Spanish Speakers
Last week the Gallup Poll showed President Obama down to 46% approval, and 46% disapproval, the lowest numbers since he became President. Among Democrats his approval rating has slipped five points so far this year, from 84% to 79%, and among Republicans from 15% to 12%. Among Hispanics his approval rating is still in positive territory, at 57%, but it has slipped a full 12 points, from 69% at the beginning of the year. Among persons who prefer being interviewed in Spanish, his approval ratings have dropped 21 points this year, from 73% to 52%. The biggest drop among Hispanics, from 73% to 64%, coincided with the State of the Union Address early in the year, when it became obvious Obama had decided not to tackle immigration reform this year. Now that Ms. Haley has won, you Republican Pooh Bahs running the state of South Carolina have some serious "splain'en" to do.

Why did a woman who won 49% of the original primary vote even have to enter a run-off with a guy she already beat by 25 points? Work with me here. You power guys could not figure out a way to convince Mr. Barrett to gracefully concede the party nomination and then drop out?

On the plus side, Ms. Haley owes you men nothing for your non support of a forgone conclusion that tonight turned out to be.

And so it goes...
