A Few Lingering Surprises in House Returns
A trip through Associated Press vote returns produces a few intriguing races to continue to watch.
In Kansas's 2nd district, 2004 Democratic nominee Nancy Boyda is leading Rep. Jim Ryun (R). If that leads holds it would be a major upset in the heart of red America. Boyda challenged Ryun in 2004 -- a less favorable Democratic year -- and lost 56 percent to 41 percent.
In Iowa's 2nd District Democrat Dave Loebsack and Rep. Jim Leach (R) are running neck and neck. Leach has held the eastern Iowa seat since 1976 despite its strong Democratic leanings. Loebsack was on no one's radar but could be benefitting from the Democratic wind blowing across the country.
Wyoming Rep. Barbara Cubin (R) is trailing Democrat Gary Trauner (D); Rep. Gil Gutknecht (R) and Democrat Tim Walz (D) are locked in a close race in Minnesota's 1st.
