Congressional Campaign Chairs on 'This Week'
Looking for answers to what happened in the 2005 election? Make sure to tune in to ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopolous" on Sunday where the heads of the House and Senate campaign committees will offer their spin.
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Elizabeth Dole (N.C.), Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.) and National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds (N.Y.) are scheduled to appear on the show. Reynolds and Emanuel will be in studio; Schumer and Dole will appear via satellite.
For fun, count how many times Emanuel says "new priorities" and Reynolds says "local issues." Emanuel and his fellow Democrats are doing their darndest to turn the 2006 midterm elections into a national referendum on Republican stewardship of government. Republicans insist that each race should be weighed on its own merits and that national atmospherics will have little impact on the local playing field.
Sunday's faceoff will be one of myriad rhetorical battles fought between the two sides over the next year. If you watch "This Week" on Sunday, feel free to use the comments to tell us what you thought of the parties' spin.
