Giannoulias: Obama will campaign for me

By Felicia Sonmez

Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias (D) said that he expects President Barack Obama to visit the Prairie State to campaign for him in his bid for the chief executive's former Senate seat.

"I have a feeling he'll be out here a few times before November," Giannoulias said Tuesday in an appearance on the ABC News/Washington Post "Topline" Web show. Giannoulias said that he had not personally asked Obama to stump for him, but added: "The White House has been great; they'll be out here."

The comments are the first indication by Giannoulias that he expects the president -- with whom he is basketball buddies -- to publicly campaign for him, and may be a signal that the White House's confidence in the Democratic nominee's chances are increasing after a rough spring that saw Giannoulias' family bank seized by the feds and some whispers in political circles that he might not survive as the Democratic nominee.

(The White House had previously played a prominent role in the attempted recruiting of state Attorney General Lisa Madigan -- widely seen as the strongest Democratic candidate -- into the Senate race last year even though Giannoulias was already running. Madigan decided against a bid.)

In recent weeks, however, a cavalcade of administration officials -- Vice President Joe Biden, White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Obama '08 campaign manager David Plouffe -- have all been in the state to support Giannoulias.

That increased level of national support has coincided with damaging revelations that Giannoulias' Senate rival, Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), exaggerated his military record. Giannoulias made no mention of Kirk's misstatements of his record during Tuesday's appearance.

Both candidates are hammering one another on the airwaves. Giannoulias is running preparing to run a 60-second ad that details Kirk's series of misstatements about his military record while Kirk is up with ads accusing the Democratic nominee of making "risky loans to convicted mobsters."

Little reliable polling has been done in the race of late but both sides believe Kirk's lead has disappeared in the wake of the resume inflation charges.

The x-factor in the contest? The trial of disgraced former Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D).

Despite the mention of his name last week at the ongoing Blagojevich trial, Giannoulias said that he never spoke with Obama or Blagojevich about the president's former Senate seat and that he "will only be beholden to the people of Illinois." Giannoulias has been subpoenaed by Blagojevich's lawyers but says he doesn't expect to testify.

Kirk's "mobster banker" meme is just as much of a joke as he is. Giannoulias hasn't worked at that bank in over four years and those two guys whom Kirk calls "mobsters" were nothing more than low level street crooks who had good credit ratings. If you have a good credit rating there's no bank in America that won't give you a loan, doesn't matter who you are.

Try again...

Kirk's going to have to come up with something better than just yelling "mobster banker" all the time and then running away if he's going to have any chance whatsoever of surviving the fall out from his long list of lies and hypocrisy.

For those keeping score, subjects Mark "Pinocchio" Kirk wants to avoid right now like the plague are: the naval intelligence officer of the year award that he didn't receive, the Pentagon war room that he didn't command, the fire he didn't come under while in Iraq, Kosovo or Kandahar, Desert Storm that he didn't serve in, Operation Iraqi Freedom that he didn't serve in, the nursery school where he didn't teach and where he didn't have students bringing guns to class ...

Kirk is a serial liar, he needs to resign.

Peds issues are at the boiling point. After spending the entire weekend spewing hate and arguing with birds, why don't you tell us what you learned, terminally lonely one.

Don't feel too bad. Drivl spent the holiday alone as usual also. The wages of hate. You two must be desensitized by now.

Between these two virulent losers, they think the notion of a family, a friend, a hobby, a passtime (other than hate blogging) is so inconcievable that certainly no one else could possibly have one.

Could they?

Mark Kirk is not only a serial liar, he's also a hypocrite.

Kirk, an in the closet homosexual, voted against repealing DADT. So anotherwords, Kirk voted to continue kicking people out of the miltary who are like - Mark Kirk.

Hey, present, you dumb lying sack, take an actual count of the psots here and in any thread here and tell me with a straight face that it's dominated by liberals. Half the posts the 4/5 of the space are taken up by one screaming meth-head nobody reads, and much of the rest come from elementary school dropouts who use words like "Democrap." That includes you.

Go back to stormfront, creep, and brag to the bog troll girls with the swastika tats that you brought the liberal blog to its knees.

I thought this was a Washington Post blog moderated by Chris Cilizza.

Turns out two big losers run the thing and post constantly without a break. Clearly there are no rules about who and what gets posted. What is that about? Are only liberal losers supposed to post here, or risk getting insulted?

Are the topics of any significance or do we just post whatever?

Honestly, the poster(s) here seems positively juvenile.

The real problems in this country

the budget deficits - both federal and state

the oil spill

ON EVERY issue, Obama has made the situation WORSE, not better.

We have crazy boycotters on this blog - and they have all missed the point - this nation is FAR WORSE OFF TODAY THAN THE DAY OBAMA TOOK OFFICE.

Obama became OBSESSED with his health care plan - however this plan has become NOTHING BUT A DRAG ON HIRING.

Companies do NOT want to hire when they don't know the health costs of the people they have working now, much less add to that.

AND why should a company hire someone here in the US - when that company can easily sidestep OBAMA'S CRAZY TAXES AND RULES by hiring someone in ANOTHER COUNTRY.

Obama's health care plan IS DRIVING JOBS OVERSEAS.

Obama has NOT helped any of the major issues facing this country - to the contrary, Obama's policies and distractions have made EVERYTHING WORSE.

And the democrats on this blog are representative of the democrats as a whole - completely distracted with small issues - and sort of obsessed with the Tea Party - and calling the Tea Party sexual slurs.

We don't have a focus from the democrats on ANYTHING THAT IS IMPORTANT.

Well, margaret, Angle has been getting severely schooled by establishment Rs in what the polls say, and her positions are being changed to reflect that. Like all R politicians she now lies constantly. But she's as nutty as ever, and hopefully, every senior in AZ will come out to vote against her.

If I was Reid, I would be running ads day and night talking to seniors about how Angle wants to pull the plug on granny and take her retirement money away.

I guess this drindl clown thinks that only Liar Democraps are permitted to change, morph and lie their way into office.

Obama gave primary voters a firm assurance that if he became the nominee of the Democratic party he would (unlike Hillary Clinton) abide by the campaign finance limits of public funding; but as soon as he became the party’s nominee, he reneged on that pledge.

During the presidential campaign Obama criticized the presence of former lobbyists in the Bush administration and solemnly assured us that he would appoint no lobbyists to his administration; but once elected he proceeded to appoint even more lobbyists than his predecessors.

When campaigning Obama criticized bills before the congress that were too long for anyone to be able to read and promised to stop that; but the bills he has been backing throughout his first year are infinitely longer (2000+ pages) than the ones he criticized.

URGENT TO POTUS, W.H. STAFF: Change the subject. Restore the rule of law and respect for human rights in America...

Endless oil spill, endless wars conveniently deflect attention from Homeland-run fusion center silent atrocities and Gestapo-like civil rights violations....

• American University policy address referencing American immigrant inventor Nikola Tesla a harbinger of an Apollo Project-like push to develop "scalar wave electromagnetics" as a source of cheap, inexhaustible energy?

• Indication that Obama knows the technology is being used by federal-local multi-agency "fusion centers" to inflict silent torture and impairment on extrajudicially "targeted" citizens...

...and that he's using his executive powers to bring those responsible to justice?

drindl, for once Angle was fact driven when she changed her position on welfare, errr, Social security. Someone must have told Angle just what % of her state's population gets a social security retirement check (11%) or disability/survivor's benefits (another 5%).

Virtually everyone in Nevada over the age of 65 gets one of those welfare checks, and those old people VOTE!

I for one hope that Comrade Obama DOES campaign for Giannoulias, as well as every Democrap Socialist running for elected office. Any Democrap Socialist nominee will probably lose after being seen standing next to this incompetent dope.

Yawn -- obama will campaign for Democrats, who will want him to. he is still popular with Dems -- sorry to deflate your balloon, Felicia.

Now on to another fun one. First Sharron Angle compares herself to -- Abraham Lincoln on this radio show. I mean, LOL. Then this:

"Manders then suggested that Angle had “softened” her hard right image since she won the primary. “Well, you know, we’re in a general election,” replied Angle. “I actually softened because I’m being held accountable for every word, as you know.”

She then apologized for saying that the unemployed are “spoiled.”

Though she hasn’t changed her radical ideas, Angle has sought to “soften” the presentation of her views. During the primary, Angle argued that, “We need to phase Medicare and Social Security out in favor of something privatized.”

Now, Angle says it’s “nonsense” that she wants to privatize Social Security, euphemistically saying instead that “going forward we need to personalize that program.”

Until last week, the “issues” page on her website said that Social Security needed to be “transitioned out.” Now, her website says, “We must keep the promise of Social Security”.

She was against Social Security before she was for it, I guess. Except she's lying through her teeth now.

There are few competitive races in the country in which the democratic candidates will actually want Obama.

Obama is going to be hard pressed to prevent the perception that his own party is shunning him this fall.

Obama will probably do some photo-ops in safe democratic House races - so if Obama can get a welcome from Alexi - then OK.

The democratic candidates in the other competitive Senate races are likely to run from Obama.
