Jeff Greene enters the Florida Senate race

Billionaire real estate developer Jeff Greene confirmed this morning that he will run for the Senate in Florida as a Democrat, the latest twist in an already unpredictable and fascinating contest.

"Are you fed up with the way things are going in Washington and tired of politicians who don't get anything done," Greene asks in a web video announcing his bid. "I'm just as frustrated as you are. That's why I am running for Senate this year."

It's not yet clear how serious Greene's candidacy will be. On one hand, his vast personal wealth makes him potentially viable. On the other, some of the information we know about him -- boxer Mike Tyson was the best man at his wedding, Heidi Fleiss lived at his house for a year -- could be fodder for opposition researchers.

Greene joins Rep. Kendrick Meek in the Democratic primary. Former state House Speaker Marco Rubio is the likely Republican nominee with Gov. Charlie Crist now running as an independent.

BP/Halliburton should be paying to clean this MESS up -- this is their negligence. NOT US TAXPAYERS.

Greene has a shady past here in California. But don't underestimate him, he may be Obama's pick for Florida's Senator or rather Rahm Emanuel's pick. He is VERY well connected.

Obama wasted valuable time in responding to the Oil Spill.

That is an unavoidable fact.

The damage is much much greater because Obama was preoccupied with creating false partisan attacks for the past 10 days.

Here's that mischief that drivl is always warning us about. Oh wait, wrong party. as usual.

After four days of deliberation, a federal jury today convicted 22-year-old David C. Kernell of two charges stemming from a 2008 break-in of an e-mail account used by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The former University of Tennessee student was convicted of felony destruction of records to hamper a federal investigation and of a misdemeanor charge that he unlawfully accessed a protected computer

Don't see how you can tag an entire species as useless. Every one of them fills a niche and serves a function there. Silverfish are incredibly primitive arthropods and for them to have survived while evolution leapt past them has to mean something. Turtles have speciated but otherwise largely unchanged from the original design predating dinosaurs.

Uselessness comes to a sharper point with individuals, and I think it's be hard to make a case that anyone or anything could be less useful than 37th or zouk.

The human appendix, maybe. Or tonsils.

The democrats on this blog have to be honest with themselves - and with everyone else.

All Obama has been doing over the past two weeks is trumping up FALSE PARTISAN CHARGES - and trying to tie the Republicans to Wall Street when the Republicans were negotiatinga bipartisan agreement.

So Obama was distracting himself with PARTISAN ATTACKS - COMMITTING FRAUD AGAINST HIS OWN 2008 CAMPAIGN.

Obama should have been on top of the oil spill.

Obama should have made sure that the action was much much faster - now the weather is bad - and Obama WASTED VALUABLE TIME - MAKING THE WHOLE SITUATION MUCH MUCH WORSE.

This is Obama's Katrina.

Obama was more concerned over the past few weeks in LYING ABOUT THE REPUBLICANS - AND BACKING THEM INTO PARTISAN VOTES IN THE SENATE - than actually doing what he should have been doing.

Charge made - GUILTY.

THIS OIL SPILL IS OBAMA'S KATRINA.

The opossum occupies no ecological niche apart from road kill*, raiding birds' nests and Appalachian haute cuisine.

Gallenod, I'm not sure I buy into the theory that Jeff Greene is only entering the Senate race to make Kendrick Meek look good, but I could see this being a concerted effort to get people to notice Meek. Name recognition is key, and in that race, Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio have huge advantages over Meek in terms of name recognition. A lot of that stems from the nasty battle they've been having over the Republican nomination, while nobody's been paying much attention to Meek.

Now, with the possibility that Rubio and Crist could split the conservative vote and give the Democratic nominee a real shot at winning, there's a sudden need for Meek to have a presence in this race. But you don't want him to start picking fights with Crist and Rubio at this point, because they're both in stronger positions than he is. So how do you raise Meek's profile without directly putting him up against those two before he's ready? Well, you could get him embroiled in a primary fight with a high-profile opponent who he'll almost certainly beat.

COULD A CLASSIFIED U.S. DOMESTIC WEAPON SYSTEM BE PLAYING A ROLE -- FOR GOOD OR FOR ILL -- IN THE GULF OIL SPILL DISASTER?

Do POTUS, VPOTUS, SecState, and other high administration officials, know that a "Multi-functional Microwave Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon System" deployed on cell towers across America, and in other nations as well, could play a role in the Gulf oil spill disaster...

...or perhaps IS playing a role, in some capacity?

This technology can ALTER THE WEATHER, ALTER ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS, ALTER WIND PATTERNS.

The U.S. Patent, which USED to be available at http://freepatentsonline.com/7629918.html states that this technology can be used to alter "atmospheric conditions."

This reporter just tried to access the patent, and got a message that is was "not currently available."

Why is that patent not available? Is there a cover-up afoot? Of WHAT?

Someone in the White House should be addressing this, STAT.

Also, read how THIS may tie into this "matrix:"

Instead of acting to get the Federal government involved in the clean-up immediately, Obama was OFF BEING PARTISAN - DRUMMING UP HIS PARTISAN ANTICS.

AND please do NOT forget the OBAMA'S CLEARLY RACIST remarks last weekend.

And now Crist adroitly moves to the middle - can he take votes from the D side? I think he's learning the Kay Bailey Hutchison lesson -- you can't outwinger the baggers, so go for the rational conservos and moderates.

"The oil spill spreading across the Gulf of Mexico is sending ripples through Florida and national politics, giving Gov. Charlie Crist a reason to withdraw his support for offshore drilling.

After a 90-minute plane flight Tuesday above the spill, which was spreading in an 80-mile by 42-mile blob, Crist said, "Clearly it could be devastating to Florida if something like that were to occur. It's the last thing in the world I would want to see happen in our beautiful state.''

He said there is no question now that lawmakers should give up on the idea of drilling off Florida's coast this year and in coming years. He has said previously he would support drilling if it was far enough from shore, safe enough and clean enough. He said the spill is proof that's not possible.

"Clearly that one isn't far enough and that's about 50 to 60 miles out, it's clearly not clean enough after we saw what we saw today — that's horrific — and it certainly isn't safe enough. It's the opposite of safe," Crist said."

spill, not the TAXPAYERS OF THE UNITED STATES.

Posted by: drindl | April 30, 2010 11:53 AM | Report abuse

I had not read anywhere that Halliburton was involved in this -- had anyone else?

What this is going to do to one of the most specialized and diverse wetlands areas in the country is criminal. And I mean that quite literally. The costs of cleaning this up will be colossal --the extent of the damage catastrophic and probably many species will be irretrievably lost. And meanwhile, it's caused by a private company, and who's footing the bill for the mess? Anerican taxpayers. Socialize risk, privatize profits.

Sure, maybe we'll get some bit of it back -- maybe.... someday.

This happened on the --was it 25th? anniversary of Earth Day. Guess we just can't learn.

"The catastrophic gusher of oil unleashed by the explosion of BP’s Deepwater Horizon rig last week is on track to quickly exceed the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill, an independent expert warns. An explosive burst of oil destroyed the exploratory rig 41 miles off the Louisiana coast on the eve of Earth Day, killing 11 workers. After the shattered hulk of the rig sank to the ocean floor a mile down, the pipeline continues to spew oil that has now reached shore, with an end weeks or months away. John Amos, the president and founder of the nonprofit firm SkyTruth, “which specializes in gathering and analyzing satellite and aerial data to promote environmental conservation,” estimated from satellite photos that the calamity is increasing at a rate of 850,000 gallons (20,000 barrels) a day:

That’s right: more than 6 million gallons spilled into the Gulf of Mexico so far. This, and other radar images that SkyTruth is getting, confirm what we’ve seen on the NASA/MODIS images so far, and support our conservative calculations showing that in the first week of this spill at least 6 million gallons have entered the Gulf. That’s a spill rate of at least 850,000 gallons (20,000 barrels) per day, 20 times larger than the official Goast Guard estimate of 42,000 gallons per day.

By today, about 7 million gallons will have been spilled, taking the Deepwater Horizon disaster more than halfway to the 1989 wreck of the Exxon Valdez, which dumped 11 million gallons into Alaska’s Prince William Sound — one of the nation’s worst environmental disasters. This catastrophe — which occured as Halliburton was cementing the well — will exceed the scale of the Exxon Valdez within a week.'

The OIL SLICK IS HEADED TOWARD FLORIDA

IT IS CLEAR that this is Obama's Katrina - over the past 10 days Obama has been more concerned with PARTISAN ATTACKS than on making sure the oil spill is dealt with properly.

Obama has been more concerned with twisting the position of the Republicans - and falsely characterizing the Republicans as wanting to keep the current state of deregulation on Wall Street.

Obama has been more concerned with PARTISAN VOTES IN THE SENATE.

Obama has been more concerned with a 1500 page bill - and not giving anyone a chance to negotiate a fair bill.

Over the past 10 days - Obama has been more concerned with a BLANTANTLY RACIST STATEMENT LAST WEEKEND -

Bulletin to CC: HERE's what's important in Florida politics today -- an approaching OIL SLICK!

***

AFTER KATRINA, WHY DIDN'T TEAM OBAMA PUBLICLY MOBILIZE ON GULF OIL SPILL?

Team Obama had a six-days heads up on the Gulf oil spill. Where were the daily live media briefings? The prep? The mobilization of EPA, Homeland, Energy, U.S. Coast Guard, etc? The "executive superintendence" of BP?

From a stagecraft view, the players didn't even try to put on a show, take the stage in a commanding role. After the "lessons learned" from Katrina, this is inexcusable.

Of course, this is the government that continues to allow a Homeland-run multi-agency fusion center network of cellular "torture towers" to silent attack and impair "targeted" Americans with debilitating, harmful microwave and other radio frequencies -- an Orwellian electromagnetic torture, entrainment and subjugation regime.

Many pols and journos think "it can't happen here." I am here to tell you it can, and it has, and as an unjustly, extrajudicially "targeted individual," I can testify that this microwave/radio frequency daily torture and impairment is every bit as insidious and inhumane as Nazi Germany...

...and those in the media who ignore the facts, fail to question authorities about the deployment and criminal use of this system to attack Americans, are complicit in the destruction of not only our democracy and the rule of law -- but the end of human FREE WILL.

JOURNO EXPOSING HOMELAND CELLULAR 'TORTURE TOWERS' ATROCITIES DESCRIBES LATEST MICROWAVE / RF RADIATION ATTACKS, HACKING OF LINK TO DOMESTIC WEAPON SYSTEM PATENT

"The forces of fascism cannot control those who love liberty as much as life, because all thinking persons know that without free will, life is not worth living. That is the ultimate reason why the Third Reich fell, and it will be the reason why America's Fourth Reich -- the fusion center Gestapo -- is about to fall."

Connections to Mike Tyson, Heidi Fleiss, etc. shouldn't matter if Jeff Greene can establish that he has good ideas and give voters no reason to believe he might be prone to the same sorts of ... ethical lapses as those two. But I think we all know that "shouldn't" doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot in politics. If Greene somehow gets the Democratic nomination, Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio are going to be able to go so negative on him he won't be able to get a word in edgewise, and that will resonate with voters, a majority of whom would much prefer to fixate on politics by association rather than engage in the dread process of actually examining the candidates' positions. And if those connections can potentially sink him in the general, Democrats are going to be wary about putting him on the ballot when the Crist-Rubio scrap is suddenly handing them a viable shot at winning the Senate seat.

"But now that you mention it, what is he going to do with his political frustration? What will he get done?"

I have the same question about a lot of candidates these days, shrink2.

He might top Bloomberg's campaign dollar per vote ratio, but he won't do it while winning. I think we will get to watch a very costly ego parade that will only make Meek look better and better.

Has all the hallmarks of a stunt. I love the bits about Mike Tyson and Heidi Fleiss. Florida is certainly providing some good political entertainment.

Meek should definitly go up on TV now with a Biosketch type of thing. He should have a few million in his acocunts and with Crist as an Independent now the big money donors will see Meek as a viable candidate, which should help the money come in.

Interesting that the Washington Post thinks having Mike Tyson being in a guy's wedding could be an issue, but has never mentioned that Michael Steele was in Mike Tyson's wedding (they were brothers-in-law) during his races for Senate or Lt. Gov, or during his tenure as RNC chair. Media bias favoring Steele.

This is good for Meek. The media will take a break talking about Teabagger Rubio and Gov. Crit. The media cannot cover this billionaire without mentioning his opponent, the former State Tropper Kendrick Meek.

I'm astonished that Bob Bennett's troubles still haven't made it on here.

I think in the end "billionare Real Estate developer" is going to be his bigger problem. Made his billions leading the Florida economy into it's current state?

"How about, I don't know, focusing on what his policies would be?"

Yeah, I feel the same way about Sanford, Clinton, Vitter, Packwood, Ensign, Foley, Spitzer...personal decisions are not policy decisions. But now that you mention it, what is he going to do with his political frustration? What will he get done? Is there a political record we can examine?

Actually, to be serious, just for a second, if I were Meek, I'd have one web video after another coming out about my career with the State Police, my voting record and so on. What is he afraid of, overexposure?

Mike Tyson. Heidi Fleiss. YAWN. Anything else, or are we gonna hear the same two names OVER AND OVER until August? How about, I don't know, focusing on what his policies would be?

This just keeps getting better and better.
Mike Tyson his best man? Heidi Fleiss? Who is his spiritual advisor, Tiger Woods?

Anyone want to vote for a train wreck collector?
