Senate Democrats Hire Spend-meister

Jim Jordan, a longtime party strategist, will manage Senate Democrats' independent expenditure program for the fall elections -- a position from which he will direct tens of millions of dollars of spending on television ads, phone banks and direct mail.

"It's a pleasure to be back in the fold, and I'm grateful for the confidence in me that Senator [Chuck] Schumer and Senator [Harry] Reid and the [Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee] leadership are showing," Jordan said in a brief interview with The Fix today.

For Jordan, his new post is not much different from the political work he did earlier this decade. In the 2000 election cycle, Jordan served as political director and communications director at the DSCC. Two years later he spent a cycle as executive director of the Senate Democrats' campaign arm. He went on to manage Sen. John Kerry's presidential bid for much of 2003.

DSCC research director Judith Wallner -- seen as a rising star among Democratic operatives -- will join Jordan in the independent expenditure (IE) effort.

The vast majority of spending from national party committees on Senate and House races is now done via these independent expenditure vehicles, which, can spend unlimited amounts of money on behalf of a candidate. (In the 2006 election, the DSCC's IE spent nearly $43 million on races.) The lone caveat is that the independent expenditure organization can have no contact with the party committees and must operate as an entirely separate entity.

At the end of January the DSCC had more than $30 million cash on hand. The National Republican Senatorial Committee showed $13 million in the bank at that time.

Why do people keep saying they invent things about Obama? They don't need to. There's a lot out there, and trust me, the Republicans are going to bring it all out. What is really bad is what was going on in Illinois.
As for Hillary, it's all about her husband. Bill never did anything as bad as Michelle Obama saying she wasn't proud of her country, after all this country gave to her. She should give it all up.

I see Clinton has her trolls out, gutter snipes like elme13, spreading malicious lies and gossip about Obama. lme13, one thing you need to understand, the are millions of Democratic votes wo will never vote for Hillary Clinton. We think she would be an even worse disaster than Bush. Many of us have memories of the Clinton Administration where she used/abused the power of government to punish political enemies (and other enemies, too - she is paranoid). Right now, a little something Chris and the pundits aren't talking about is discussion amongst elected delegates for a mass walkout of the convention if Clinton somehow manages to steal the nomination by seating the corrupted Michigan or Florida delegates, or with Super delegates. Imagine that one on national television and all of those Obama delegates hitting the streets...maybe some 1968 style riots? You can't steal this one. Mathematically it is impossible for Clinton to win the nomination right now. All you can succeed in doing is wrecking the Democratic Party forever. Maybe it has to come to that, though. There are two Democratic Parties right now, one compose of people who want policies and programs that are in the long term interests of the country, the other a collection of special issue, eve single issue, "gimme what I want now!" sorts - the gay rights, feminist, hispanic alliances. In the end, these groups have almost nothing in common. We are witnessing that in this election.

THIS ELECTION IS ABOUT - 29 NEW NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS (Big MONEY)
Aka: Dick Cheney's NEXT Big ENERGY MONOPOLY RIPOFF ... ( Plan)....

Whether Cheney's PLAN succeeds ....OR NOT.... is UP to ALL of YOU.

We all know CORPORATE POWER is in control of our government and ROBBING us every way they can. The "NEWS" media is NOW nearly totally under the CONTROL of Powerful CORPORATE Interests.

The Corporate-Controlled "news" media have interlocking Boards of Directors (same member serves on multiple boards) and all of them serve to enrich their CONGLOMERATED Corporate Masters. (*see FAIR website LINK at the end of this post.)

(YOU can HELP Get the Word Out: Please post this NEWS thruout the Blogsphere and in any NEWS media you can find.)

REAL News you won't see on TV:

Obama is the pre-packaged "New & Improved Chocolate Flavor" Presidential candidate being Marketed like a PRODUCT - hyped & PUSHED by GE and its WHOLLY-Owned subsidiaries NBC & MSNBC...along with Westinghouse & its subsidiary CBS...while slamming the Clintons all day every day. (Assisted by...CNN/FOX/ and a lot of newspaper & radio media dependent on advertising $$$.) GE is the 2nd largest corporation on the planet.

Obama is IN with the Nuclear Industry: Excelon Corp of Illinois has been one of his largest contributors from his entry into politics to the present. Excelon is the largest nuke operator on the planet;owns Con-Ed of NY; more nukes in Illinois than any other state.

GE, Westinghouse, Excelon & 3 consortiums of other companies are planning to build 29 new nuclear power plants. Their Wholly-Owned & Wholly Influenced "News" media are selling the Obama Product because Obama is in favor of Nukes.

In 2005 Obama Voted FOR the Cheney Energy Bill (H.R.6) which ENABLED the nuke industry to make its Plans to build 29 new nukes-by Guaranteeing Taxpayer Payback of any nuke loans that default. (No nukes were built for the past 30 years because the banks wouldn't loan the money - too risky)

Obama Voted FOR the Cheney Energy Bill-despite the fact the Congressional Budget Office rated the risk of default on the nuke loans at 50% or greater. (Does that sound like...GOOD...JUDGMENT to You?)

[NY Times has several articles about the nuke plans & a map showing all 29 locations; Wikipedia covers the subject]

Clinton Voted AGAINST the Cheney Energy Bill and said her Energy Plan does not include nuclear.

? "Its about the FUTURE ...... Turn The PAGE" ?

Nope. Its about Turning the PAGE BACK to the PAST: Obsloete 50 yr old nuke power plants-the dirtiest most expensive kind/centrally-controlled MONOPOLY POWER-instead of deploying New, Clean, Green De-Centralized Inexpensive Energy.

An ad campaign has already begun on the TV media to re-package & re-name nuclear power plants as: GREEN & CLEAN -for- everybody too young to remember the 1970's anti-nuke movement and all the Bad News about nuclear energy.

Don't be taken in by the ad campaigns - Google:'nuclear waste dumps' & read about the hundreds of BILLIONS of gallons of nuke waste at the Hanford Washington dump; 14 tons of plutonium stored at Rocky Flats, Colorado; Barnwell, South Carolina; leaking into groundwater and rivers; plutonium released into the air around Denver from 500 instances of fires at Rocky Flats; nuke waste stored ON-SITE at every nuke reactor in America...presenting hundreds of potential "dirty bomb" targets for terrorists.

Is it true that Obama takes No Contributions/ NO MONEY from Registered Federal Lobbyists?

Yes. It's a LawyerSpeak/Trick of: Speaking a Small truth covering up a Big Lie.

Nope, doesn't take money from REGISTERED FEDERAL Lobbyists.

DOES take money from STATE Lobbyists, Not Registered Lobbyists, AND the wives, husbands, law partners,
...of REGISTERED FEDERAL Lobbyists. Gets money from the same big corporate donors as any other candidate.

Obama's campaign finances are involved in the prosecution (by Patrick Fitzgerald) and trial of his friend of 20 years Antoin Rezko. Some of the funds... allegedly...extorted by Rezko went into Obama's campaign coffers.

Curiously, Iraqi Power Plants and fraud are also involved in Rezko's trial. (Google: Obama -Rezko- Alsammarae-Auichi- IRAQ POWER PLANTS). With the Rezko trial looming over his head Obama, in all good conscience, should not have run for the Presidency - given all the unanswered questions about his involvement with Rezko; including Obama's meeting with Rezko and Rezko's friend Iraqi Billionaire Auichi. Obama's LACK of good conscience in running for President - given the very high risk that the Rezko trial will result in the election of a Republican - reveals Obama's lack of good conscience and his lack of any regard for his party, his country, or its people. Obama should withdraw from the race.

At the beginning of this campaign season a large majority of voters were looking forward to electing Clinton. Then Obama stepped in and started the dirty campaigning that has created the DIVISION he so hypocritically decries. Obama played "the race card" so he could win in South Carolina. He was caught red-handed playing that race card-but the media blamed it on Clinton -even though they all knew they were pushing THE BIG LIE..

With nearly ALL "the mainstream media" pimping for Obama & slamming, smearing, and lying about the Clintons-it is truly amazing enough voters have seen thru the Media-Created Obama "movement"-for Clinton to STILL be in the race.

The only way a very small minority can CONTROL a very large Majority is: DIVIDE & CONQUER -Exactly the same Republican Strategy/Deception they have successfully pulled for most of the last century And ALL of this century, so far. . .

GE, the nuke industry/wealthy have hedged their bets & they will get 29 new nukes IF either Obama or McCain is elected.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Dads & Moms buy nothing GE & Westinghouse are selling - not Obama, not a washing machine, a dishwasher, 29 nuke power plants, or a garbage disposer .... because there is no garbage disposer for Radioactive Nuke Waste. Do not allow them to poison the earth and your children anymore.

and mark, the Fla Dems told Crist and the Republicans that they must delink the voting machine reforms and changing the primary date. Crist threatened to veto and the Republican Legislature repeatedly voted their delinkage resolutions down. Learned something from having Air America on at the office.

Republicans and those opposing a Revote have totally ignored this story. If anyone wants to see a fair revote in Fla, they need to pass on this story and demand that Crist find the $25 million and stop the bs insisting that the dnc bankrupt itself to correct this deliberate manipulation of the Fla primary and the Democratic Presidential selection process. Floridians should be outraged and compare this manipulation to Katherine Harris's dirty tricks in 2000.

mark here is the linkage story it was real and Christ was applauded for making these long awaited voting machine changes everyone in Fla incuding the unions demanded. The dems and unions were duped when Crist insisted thatb if they wanted to have an election that didn't repeat 2000 they needed to agree to move back their primary date knowing how the dnc would be respond. Crist created this mess he should be made to find the $25 million and Floridians should be screaming impeachment if he doesn't. This vote was unanimous mark, unheard of and Crist' popularity shot up to 80%.

Here is the link so Dems need to quit beating up on the Fla Dems and start calling and yelling at Crist to fix this mess:

"TALLAHASSEE, FLA--In a 118-0 vote in the Florida House of Representatives, a bill was passed requiring all Florida counties to have paper ballot voting technology in place before the 2008 Florida primaries and general election. The House vote comes shortly after the Florida Senate approved a similar measure.

The ACLU of Florida applauded the Legislature for acting on Gov. Charlie Crist's commitment to change the State's voting system to a paper ballot-based technology. "The battle for fair elections in Florida now focuses on the 15 formerly DRE counties, which must act independently to ensure that disabled and language-minority voters will not be second-class citizens," said Howard Simon, executive director of the ACLU of Florida.

Crist congratulated the Florida Legislature for passing legislation that will replace touch-screen voting machines with optical scan machines statewide for Election Day voting and early voting sites. He also praised the Legislature for changing the date of Florida's presidential primary to an earlier date - the last Tuesday in January--Jan. 29.

Florida's Primary would not be only a week after New Hampshire's traditional first primary and the Iowa and Nevada caucuses. The South Carolina Democratic primary is also set for Jan. 29.

Florida presidential primaries have been in March since 1972 but have little impact.

This year, many states, including New York, have shoved back their presidential primaries to Feb. 5, the earliest date allowed by the Republican and Democratic national committees.

The national committees are threatening to cut the state delegation in half."

Hillary will get the nomination because she will be the best President and has the best chance of standing up to he Republican attack machine.

If the superdelegates look at message boards like these ones, they'll see that Obama supporters more often than not act like immature jerks making personal attacks at anyone who doubts their saviour's divinity, rather than discussing the issues.

The final reason is that Obama's supporters will drop him like a rock once it dawns on them that he's not the saviour they think he is, but just another politician who tells one thing about an issue to one group and the opposite to another.

Posted by: svreader | March 6, 2008 9:38 PM | Report abuse

and how does he do that and still claim to be a uniter? This was the box I think his campaign has been in since day one. Like Edwards in 2004 its not so easy to move from being the candidate of hope to the agressor. It failed for Edwards in 2004 and that is why Edwards the guy I first supported came out as the aggressive populist this time. I just see a repeat of 2004 with Obama and 4 more years of endless war. under McCain. Voters don't want nice guys in the oval office(ask Adlai Stevenson and Michael Dukakas) they look for toughness whether we agree or not. If voters think of the nominee as a wimp, even if that is only perception, it is likely that candidate will not win the presidency.

Heard the linkage account on Air America but we need to do our homework before we start attributing this to Fla Dems. Wexler has fought for Fla voter machines probably since the debacle of 2000 and others suggest that that was the rationale for agreeing to move out their primary date.

Posted by: leichtman | March 6, 2008 9:35 PM | Report abuse

I did not know about the "linkage" - I assume you correctly recollect. I do not have any recollection of same.

I do know that every news story at the time
stressed the bipartisan push for moving up the dates.

I will look for an article on "linkage" to the voting machine issue - but if you have one, please share.

Crist and the Gov. of MI are playing to their constituents, of course - but you are suggesting gamesmanship, as well. I understand that games are a possibility.

As a Obama supporter, I would agree that he needs to show some fight...it is his weakest area, imo. Abe Lincoln, after all, was a crack debater and prosecutor....We do not need JUST a philosopher king, we also need a fighter. There is a difference between fighting dirty and just plain fighting.

Posted by: wpost4112 | March 6, 2008 8:51 PM | Report abuse

mark, have not seen you for a few days. Did not Congressman Wexler fight for 3 years to get voting machines with scanners and a paper printout. And isn't it also true that the Republican State legislature who had blocked this common sense voter protection bill, finally relent and link the paper backup to moving their primary. And mark what you or the Fla Dems have said if they had refused this gambit and allowed another presidential election without proper voting machines especially after 2000? Were they duped and outmaneuvered by the harris/Bush /Crist machine? Probably.

Believe me when Hillary wins the nomination she will unload on McCain. Its political strategy something your side is just not up to which really concerns me about Obama in a general election. If anyone heard Matthews tonight I think he is absoltely correct about Obama in Nov. He would either be a 45% or 55% candidate in Nov. His most challenging election was against Alan Keyes, a very challenging race. Maybe his supporters don't think it important but Obama has never been involved in a tough campaign or a national campaign. The way his campaign folded this week should really give you pause. He lost Texas and yet his campaign had him giving his Tues speech in San Antonio TEXAS. As a political strategy that made no sense at all. His team likely knew he would lose why was he not in Philadelphia in Independence Hall making a stand. San Antonio, The Alamo, didn't they even understand the symbolism. Seriously, I don't think his campaign beyond fundraising and internet prowess really is all that politically savy or ready for prime time, and if he is the nominee that really concerns me.

"8 House Dems get letters, photo of New York recruiting station before bombing

Eight House Democrats were mailed a letter and photo of a Times Square recruiting station in Manhattan before it was bombed this morning, according to House insiders.

UPDATE: A House aide suggested many more members could have received the letter and suggested law enforcement officials do not know the full scope of how many missives were actually sent.

The letter did not contain any specific threats against the lawmakers or the site, but the U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI are now investigating the matter.

It was unclear which lawmakers received the letters, but House aides confirmed they were all Democrats. The letter was postmarked Feb. 28, a week before the explosion in New York.

The New York Times is reporting that the "improvised explosive device" used in the attack "was 'roughly similar"' to the devices used in two earlier bombings at foreign consulates in Manhattan in 2005 and 2007.

UPDATE: The letters and pictures went to Democrats representing New York City-based congressional districts, according to House sources. It's unclear whether Democratic Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer received similar letters.

terrorism
" Acts of terrorism are not intended to merely victimize or eliminate those who are killed, injured or taken hostage but rather to intimidate and influence the societies to which they belong.[citation needed]

Many putative definitions of terrorism define as "terrorism" only those acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal and by a member or members of a group (as opposed to being carried out in a lone attack), and which deliberately target, or else disregard the safety of, non-combatants (civilians). Many definitions also include only acts of unlawful violence as opposed to "lawful acts of war".

Do not fear the gop fascsits. To fear them terrorists is to give them your power.

His Repub State Legislature cooked up this mess, they in fact control the Fla State Legislature, pushed this date for their primary to accomodate the RNC, then attached paper printouts to their primary date, something we have been fighting for since 2004 making it impossible for Fla dems to oppose, and now Crist backtracks and says Fla shouldn't pay for a revote, just like they refused to pay for a 2000 recount, and Crist now tells Matthews tonight that he would like to break the DNC and make them pay him $25 million for a revote. Sounds like a Tom DeLay stunt when he pushed through ReDistricting in Texas against the wishes of most Texans. As far as I see it the revote idea officially ended tonight. Thanks for the in-state insight, Republicus!

Interesting to hear about this Jim Jordan fellow. I hope he's fiscally responsible because the amount of money that comes to the Democrats once Obama is elected is going to be disturbing, to say the least.

I missed the close of comments on the "New Super Tuesday" post so forgive me for posting here. 2 comments:

(1) PLEASE, no more super tuesdays...let me suggest a new name: "Title Tuesday . . . that is, until the next bout."

(2) I'm from North Carolina and understand the politics well. Obama is the clear favorite in that contest.

"Jim Jordan, a longtime party strategist, will manage Senate Democrats' independent expenditure program for the fall elections."

If Sen Clinton is on the ticket, he's gonna need all the help he can get.
