MA-Senate: Khazei is Running
City Year co-founder Alan Khazei (D) will run in the special election for the seat long held by Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy (D), he confirmed in an e-mail to friends and colleagues this morning.
"Because like all of you, I have dedicated myself to empowering people from all backgrounds to make a difference and strengthen our democracy, today a group of citizens is picking up petitions and helping me take the necessary steps to participate in the special election in Massachusetts," wrote Khazei.
He also announced he would be taking a leave of absence from "Be the Change", a volunteer-oriented organization he heads to pursue the race.
Khazei joins state Attorney General Martha Coakley and Reps. Stephen Lynch and Michael Capuano in the Democratic contest. Steve Pagliuca, a managing director at Bain Capital, is very interested in the contest and would be able to spend considerable sums of his own money if he ran.
The Republican field is far thinner with state Sen. Scott Brown the odds-on nominee.
The special election primary is set for Dec. 8 with a general election on Jan. 19.

It's worth remembering that snowbama is posting from a PC in a mental institution. Not exactly a reliable source of information. He's been institutionalized for years.

leriverend: snowbama is a troll formerly known as king_of_zouk and is best ignored as his posts have little to no relationship with reality.

Chris,
It might be nice if you gave a detailed pro and con of each candidate in MA once the race solidifies a bit more; rather like you did with the Fix Hall of Fame candidates.

Love the way that Navy seals took out the wanted terrorist in Somalia, under the direction of POTUS, Barack Obama..Don't you love the way Democrats protect the security of the nation..Find the target, take them out and no civilian casualties..That is the way Barack Obama is gonna take out OBL..OBL must be quivering in his cave..instead of the bluster of W and co, he now faces a President who knows how to get things done..

Thanks, Leriverend, for the link. I get it now--Kazei will use the next 12 weeks to promote public service. Good for him.

Snowbama...check out MA. It's in the top five states for just about every positive attribute: wealth, income, productivity, entrepreneurship, health, education, etc.
It's also in the bottom five for every negative attribute: poverty, childhood mortality, crime, murder, teen pregnancy, abortion, divorce. So yeah, I think it's fair to say that catching up to Massachusetts is a great goal for the rest of the country.
As far as taxes go, last time I checked we were in the top quartile...meaning we pay less in taxes than most states do, we produce more, we earn more and we live better lives. Now if we could only do something about the seven months of winter.

Not a lot of traffic on the blog about "who will be the next far left liberal from Massachussetts". like it matters. the state is the poster child for tax and spend and fail.
Hey, I got a great liberal idea. Let's extend that certain failure to the entire country. that'll show em.

All I could think of was, if he can't even win in Afghanistan, why would he run here?

I guess one advantage to a special election is the shortened schedule. He can take a leave of absense for 12 weeks and be back to work on Dec. 9th.
He has no name recognition--perhaps he is trying to get some?

I don't know why he bothered. He has absolutely no name recognition, and far less experience than the other Democratic candidates. I might vote for someone like Khazei for a local office, or even for the House, but definitely not for the Senate.
