Kaine Speaks! (with video)
After an appearance on WTOP radio with Gov. Martin O'Malley (Md.) and D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine held a brief press conference in which he addressed reports that he is under "serious consideration" to be Barack Obama's running mate.
"I haven't sought it, I'm not running for it, I am not asking for it," Kaine said of the second-in-command slot. "I've never asked anything of the campaign. I didn't endorse him to get anything, I endorsed him to help."
Be clear: That is NOT a denial. Kaine is -- smartly -- simply reiterating that he is not campaigning for the job and that his endorsement way back in February 2007 was not a quid pro quo that he be included in the veepstakes.
Remember that actively running for vice president is the surest way not to get it. In that, Kaine is playing his cards just right.
