Dick Cheney unloads on Obama Administration, Joe Biden hits back

Former Vice President Dick Cheney took after the Obama Administration on several fronts -- most notably for its approach to national security matters -- in an interview with ABC's Jon Karl this morning.

Cheney took umbrage with the President's initial description of the attempted Christmas Day bombing as the work of an "isolated extremist", arguing that it is evidence of a "mindset" that suggests the current Administration does not understand the country is at war.

"What the administration was slow to do was to come to that -- that recognition that we are at war, not dealing with criminal acts," Cheney told Karl.

On Iraq, Cheney castigated President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for opposing the troop surge that he said is responsible for the turnaround in the country. "If they had had their way, if we'd followed the policies they'd pursued from the outset or advocated from the outset, Saddam Hussein would still be in power in Baghdad today," Cheney insisted.

Knowing the attention that the Cheney interview would draw, the White House dispatched Biden to appear on both "Meet the Press" and "Face the Nation" to provide the counter-perspective.

On "Meet the Press", Biden hammered Cheney by insisting that the former vice president was "not entitled to rewrite history. He's not entitled to his own facts." Biden noted that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was treated in the exact same manner as shoe bomber Richard Reid.

"All I know is he's factually, substantively wrong on the major criticisms he is asserting," Biden added of Cheney. "Why he's insisting on that, he either is misinformed or he is misinforming. But the facts are that his assertions are not accurate."

As this administration is half through a one term run, they can make themselves heroes in working to fix the economy, and restore personal responsibility. The Progressive direction will memorialize this administration as a failure and betrayal.

HEY, DICK: GET ON THE STICK,
RUN 4 POTUS, MAKE IT QUICK!

Friends, the greatest thing
about posting “political”
Is that the strangest can
become true, after all!

To wit, one Dick Cheney
has serious style and knack
To light-up libs, passing
even Sarah’s skill at “whack!”

Most other Republicans say
this and that, who cares?
But, when Cheney speaks,
we get sirens and flares!

Obama even trots out Joe
to debate Dick, then prevails
Upon his liberal press buddies
to spin those tales.

So, me thinks Dick Cheney
should just say, “O.K.,
I’ll take my repudiation
of Obama – ALL-THE-WAY!”

“I shall explore and make
my positons clear, then,
I shall gather donations,
support, and do it again.”

“I shall tell the world
that Obama must not win now -
And, I’m dah man who can
make that happen, and how!”

Yep, if I ran things, that’s
how I’d tell Cheney to run -
Win or lose, he’d shake ‘em
all up. My-oh-my, what fun!!!

Whodatsaydat just loves to see
Apoplectic liberals on TV!

For the immediate attention of POTUS, VPOTUS, WH Staff, Team Obama:

THE MILITARY KNOWS THAT MICROWAVE/LASER/PARTICLE BEAM 'DIRECTED ENERGY WEAPONS' ARE THE 'NEW NUKES." SO WHY AREN'T THESE SILENT, INVISIBLE, POWERFUL WEAPONS SYSTEMS COVERED BY NUCLEAR ARMS TALKS?

Could it be that the militaries, secret services, and intelligence agencies of the world, Western democracies as well as China, aren't letting the diplomats in on the dirty high-tech secret -- the scientific fact that many of these telemetry-delivered weapon systems are operational (despite the propaganda), and are capable of silently, invisibly precision- targeting, harming, impairing, or slow-killing, entire nations -- or selected "targeted individuals"?

Wake up, politicians and diplomats of the world. Your mission has turned into Kabuki theater. You are fighting the last war. And the generals and secret services and intel chiefs behind a globalist military order know it. When will they tell you all about it? Maybe never -- unless you demand the truth.

And mainstream media: When will you start asking questions that aren't about the pre-ordained "issue du jour?" NBC's Nora O'Donnell may have been the last journalist to ask the Defense Department (Rumsfeld) about directed energy weapons -- and she got the run-around. Did NBC's defense contractor owner put the kibosh on further inquiry into the subject?

You are in a dream world if you think that Clinton and the democrats were not responsible for the lack of intelligence coming out of the Middle East in the 90s.

AND you fool.

In case you didn't know, Bush and Cheney were preparing to act against Bin Laden, even if 9/11 did not occur.

In fact, there were high level meetings on Sept 7, 2001, preparing for military actions against Bin Laden.

So, not only are your charges politically motivated gibberish, they do not even stand up to the facts.

To be honest, there is a tradition in this country - when a new administration comes in, it does not criticize the previous administration.

Obama and the democrats have been slamming Bush all year, which is a serious breach of protocol.

It is just a sign of the lack of class that Obama has.

After the Bush bashing continued, Cheney has every right to come up and defend the policies.

However, it was Obama who has been way out of line the whole year through.

Obviously not as big as you.

VAN SUSTEREN: All right, now, so that I can sort of set the table right so you and I are on the same page, is waterboarding torture or enhanced interrogation technique? What word should we use on this?

MCCAIN: It's torture. It's in violation of the Geneva Conventions, of the international agreement on torture, treaty of torture signed during the Reagan administration. It goes all the way back to the Spanish Inquisition. It's not a new technique, and it is certainly torture.

VAN SUSTEREN: It's now the subject of a great debate again today that President Obama spoke and former vice president Cheney spoke. President Obama says it's torture. Former vice president Cheney says it's enhanced interrogation techniques. Those are the words he uses. President Obama says it's a recruitment tool. Vice President Cheney says it is not. Is it a recruitment tool?

MCCAIN: Well, torture certainly is. I was at Camp Bucca a couple of years ago with Senator Lindsey Graham. And there was 20,000 prisoners in that prison at that time. We were taken by the Army general to meet in a secluded area with a former high-ranking al Qaeda member, a very tough guy. In the course of our conversation, I said, What was it that made you succeed so well? And he said, Two things. One, after the invasion was total disorder and chaos, murder, all kinds of bad things, and that allowed us to gain a foothold. He said, But my greatest recruiting tool, he said, I recruited thousands of young men -- Abu Ghraib.

And the right wingnuts will still insist on believing 24 and Jack Bauer are the real thing...

It's just amazing that if a democrat did half the crimes and abuses done by Bush/Cheney, they'd be screaming "treason". But it's okay for the Bushies to repeat proven lies over and over, such as:

- there were no terrorist attacks under Bush
- there was an AQ-Iraq link
- Atta met with Iraqi intelligence, presumably to plot against us
- there were WOMD
- we'll catch OBL "dead or alive" (but when the commanders on the ground, who the Bushies claim to listen to, asked for extra troops to get him at Tora Bora, Rumsfeld said no)

And what really must bug you screaming wingnuts, is this is all documented (Fox Noise, the GOP propaganda arm, and WND, both of whom are documented about lying about what they publish, don't count).

And let the right wingnuts froth away...

Zero, you ARE dense. I said the detainees you said were released by President Obama and the ones released by Bush were SUSPECTED terrorists. You don't even read your own posts, how in the world can we have a civil discussion?

Well, I see by your Republican debating rules (calling others idiots and such) that we can't have a civil discussion. Besides, a discussion would take facts, something you, like brain cells, are short of.

It doesn't matter if Abdulmatallub talked for 30 days or not, we have been safe the whole time. He's just a disaffected college student anyway, not a top al Qaeda operative. He doesn't know squat.

Actually, to be very factual, we have NEVER been safe. You could be killed in a car wreck, have a heart attack, be shot, have a stroke, or die from cancer, but that probably doesn't concern you at all.

The world has always been an unsafe place but you were so insulated in your cozy little life you never noticed. There has been terrorism since time began (read the Bible) but because your life wasn't affected you never noticed how many others died. Such a soft little child you are.

So let me tell you what I've done to make my country safer and then you tell me what you've done.

I served 24 years in the military. I spent 5 years teaching emergency responders how to respond to WMD events. I now teach nuclear weapons safety to the military.

I put my life out there. I know how dangerous the world is. I've lived it and I was never a pants-wetter like you and your ilk. Even on a dark street in Egypt during 9.11 I was never a pansy like you are.

Oh, well. Go on living your mousy little life. You'll be at the end of your days knowing all you did was cower.

Real Americans stand up to terrorists. Real Americans try them in the harsh light of day so everyone can see that we are fair and we prosecute those who dare to kill us. Real Americans don't soil the Constitution and the meaning of America.

GW Bush released over 500 detainees back to their countries including Yeman.

Richard Reid was given Miranda Rights and a lawyer, consequently he's spending the rest of his life in prison. Funny how that works.

You're right about comparing 30 days to 7.5 years. In fact, we've been safe over a year in this administration now.

It should be easier to give President Obama the benefit of the doubt than Cheney and yet you are so narrow minded you can't see it.

You say DCSage1 is declaring war. So you admit your ilk are bigots and racists. How can war on bigotry and racism be a bad thing? I'll bet you love the war on Iraq and Afghanistan and the undeclared war on Muslims. One would think you would support a war on bigotry and racism.

Unless you are a bigot and racist.

The "Obama people" (you're beginning to show signs of a persecution complex or paranoia) are not setting race relations back, unless you are frightened by a black man in a position of power. What would enhance race relations to you? Should black people stay in their places so you don't feel threatened?

So far you've proposed nothing concrete, you only whine and whimper. What a poor excuse for an American you are. I'll ask you again, what have you done to make your country safer?

President Obama is ending the Iraq war, showing our enemies we talk the talk and walk the walk when it comes to human rights for all peoples, and we have not had an attack in style of 9.11 since he took office. Recall by this time in the Cheney administration we had lost close to 3,000 American civilians on American soil.

It is clear that Obama made a major mistake by taking his eye off the economy for pretty much all of last year.

The stimulus bill was hijacked by the liberal democrats -

The stimulus bill money was diverted from jobs to democratic special interest groups.

Now Obama has a complete disaster on his hands.

The liberals will stay behind Obama - however they are completely delusional - they want Obama's numbers to go up, yet they refuse to support the policies which will appeal to the independents.

So while the liberals have to grow up, and they don't want to, the country suffers.

Electing Obama with such little experience was a mistake.

The country deserves much better from a party which claims it can govern.

POLITICAL INFLUENCE AND U.S. CONSTITUTION
So far I did not see any law maker and even our PRESIDENT to defend our CONSTITUTION from the political influence. For example what warrants to TERRORIST to be tried in the Military? Are they belong to any one country that officially declared war with the U.S. Which country flag they represent which military uniform they were? Trying this people in MILITARY is a gift to AL QUEDA in which they can officially declare they been recognized by U.S. as a MILITARY solder which they will use to recruit more TERRORIST.
Also is been proved over and over previous administration lied to the PUBLIC and declared WAR to a country that at the time had no thing to do with 9/11 attack and even with AL QUEDA. Because of political consequences This administration closed their eyes knowing that our constitution was abused. If in fact they did look for the so called JUSTICE that might bring a POLITICAL war, aren’t we in that war any way?
On the Immigration issue how many law makers really defended our constitution, Law is clear if you are in this country illegally you should not enjoy the benefits indented for legal citizens period, Being illegal is violation of the law?
Even our SUPREME COURT is influenced by POLITIC or political ideology their for if we consider our selves STAND FOR THE JUSTICE then we should never let POLITIC to influence our CONSTITUTION Regardless who including PRESIDENT Of The U.S.
Unless POLITIC OVERRIDES JUSTICE?

Obama is a disaster - and I don't see anything that will indicate that anything will get any better.

If his resume is any guide, normally, at this stage of a job, Obama would be looking for the next affirmative action program to go into - looking for another promotion to cover up the complete lack of accomplishment - or effort or anything.

Obama has never been in a position in which he had to make it work - in which things didn't go well, and he had to turn things around.

Instead, he always went on to the next affirmative action program.

Obama has become the poster child for getting rid of the affirmative action programs - they have not worked - we need to produce people with much more substance.

I believe Obama has actually caused race relations to go backwards.

There is too much push at political correctness - the Obama people are too ready to start crying racist for relatively innocent things.

So there is a backlash - a quiet sustained one.

Perhaps it will not show up in the polls - yea if a pollster asks someone, that person will say that they are not racist.

But what is the real situation ? The false charges of racism - the crazy leftists ready to call anyone a racist over a genuine policy discussion - has poisoned race relations. People are fed up with it.

The people on this blog may be some of the worst offenders - or rather representative of what is going on out there.

The American people are sick of these tactics - Like in Massachusetts, they are waiting for the first chance to take everyone down.

Dick Cheney is living out Richard Pryor's joke. Wife walks in and sees her husband in bed with another woman. Married guy says: "Who you gonna believe--me or your lying eyes?"

The American people don't believe Dick Cheney.

Dich Cheney would better serve his legacy as a VP by keeping quiet instead of continually trying to justify his actions while the VP to President, G.W. Bush, and the entire U.S. As weak and as vulnerable as G.W. Bush was as our President, Cheney has chosen to damaged his credibility further by filling the vacuum in leadership and expounding ignorant responses to world situations while in Office. Now he is attermpting to further polarize our country by criticizing Obama's actions. Enough has been said on this issue!

The handling of the Christmas Day bomber was fine. The Cheney complaints are desperate and trivial.
Obama's tepid support for the "surge" ws that it would not solve the Iraq problem. It did, however, cover up prior fiascos of the war for several years. Cheney somehow loses sight of that.
He and Bush are lucky they are not stnding trial for international war crimes, plus impeachment proceedings in the US for intentionally deceiving the American people into a war "of choice," in other words a complete mistake.
And, if it were illegal to be incompetent, they'd already be serving time.

Lets see, Dick Cheney played a key role in fabricating lies and manufacturing evidence to prosecute an unjust and corrupt war against Iraq and still insists that they were connected to 9/11 and had WMDs. He lied and tens of thousands have died.

Next, he along with his strange bedfellow Donnie Rumsfeld, helped Bin Laden escape in Tora Bora by denying Delta Force's two tatical plans to capture or kill OBL. Then he and Donnie refused to send in Airborne to cut of Bin Laden's escape and pulled U.S. Special Forces out of Afghanistan 3 months into our mission, sabotaging our efforts there.

Next he and Donnie, after a little "Shock and Awe" declared that we would be greeted as "liberators" in Iraq. They had no post invasion plan nor any plan to win the peace other than "Mission Accomplished".

Cheney was the key architect of a plan to degrade the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and our Civil Liberties and was a master planner of the worst strategic error in U.S. History; the invasion of Iraq.

According the National Intelligence Assessment, the enemy is now stronger than ever before. Dick Cheney should shut his pie hole or he should be prosecuted for Treason for by definition he has given aid and comfort to the enemy.

Cheney would leak information to his pet New York Times reporters - and then the New York Times would publish the stories on the front page.

THEN, in beautiful fashion, Cheney would go on the Sunday morning programs - and hold up the New York Times - and say, see... the liberal New York Times agrees with me.......

It was beauty.

It was perfection.

No one has ever played politics and media like Cheney.

Cheney made it look easy......

Cheney can't even be compared to Biden or Gore - Cheney is in a totally different league -

Another part - Obama has probably set partisan relations back significantly as well. The very idea of parading around saying that he was going to be bipartisan, and then conducting himself the way he has is utterly pathetic.

The American people see through all of this.

The polls we see may not reflect everything that is going on in America.

I don't know if Massachusetts is representative of the whole country or not - that part of New England may be unique.

Obama is doing a horrible job - that much is clear.

Filter out all the partisan leftists - and try to get a relatively objective take on how Obama is doing and his job performance is horrible.

Ironic, if Obama had passed the health care bill, Obama's standing would probably be worse. American does not want that bill - and now it is the symbol of how out-of-touch Obama is.

I don't get how one goes from Obama's platform in 2008 - to health care, round the clock, all the time.

I don't get how a party can ignore the economy for almost a year.

I don't know however the priority agenda in Washington has been odd at best - stupid at worst.

Obama is a disaster - and I don't see anything that will indicate that anything will get any better.

Normally, at this stage, Obama would be looking for the next affirmative action program to go into - looking for another promotion to cover up the complete lack of accomplishment - or effort or anything.

Obama has never been in a position in which he had to make it work - in which things didn't go well, and he had to turn things around.

Instead, he always went on to the next affirmative action program.

Obama has become the poster child for getting rid of the affirmative action programs - they have not worked - we need to produce people with much more substance.

Currently it must be very frustrating for Mr. Cheney not being able to dictate the path the country will follow. His frustrations are understandable. I'm sure his lashing out against President Obama is just his way of acting out those frustrations.

Dick Cheney is a bitter old man, a sore loser and a coward in the face of America's current confrontation with the al Qaeda terrorist cult. Cheney is literally calling for the al Qaeda to carry out an attack against America to give credibility to his constant bellyaching about how scared he is and how he believes America is wrong in the way we are confronting the al Qaeda since he was kicked out of office.

During the interview, Cheney mentioned that terrorists could use nuclear or biological weapons against America as is if to make the suggestion. Dick Cheney is a stinking neo-con traitor praying for an attack on America.

Cheney's inattention and incompetence helped to make America vulnerable to the attacks on 9/11, the anthrax attacks, the shoe bomber attack and other terrorist attacks on his watch. The bumbling and incompetent neo-con Cheney should put a sock in it. He didn't get the job done. He had his chance and he came up as a bumbling and incompetent war profiteer.

I truly cannot believe that Dick Cheney is allowed to be on TV or speak to any organization . This a man that lied to the American people about why we needed to go to war in Iraq. Remember WMD? The mushroom cloud? The yellow cake? etc.etc. etc. He needs to be held accountable not only for killing over 5,000 American kids but thousands of middle east babies, kids, women and men. He needs to be held accountable for illegal wiretapping,
illegal torture, illegal spying on Americans and other unconstitutional activities. He is considered a war criminal in many countries he needs be held accountable and punished to the fullest extent.

It was a pleasure to hear Dick Cheney speak again. Cheney is smart, logical and comes across as a leader, something that has disappeared under the Obama administration. Biden, although much better than Obama, came across as weak, shrill and defensive.

All this makes clear what is wrong with Obama's administration - weak and shrill describes them perfectly......along with Socialist.

This is a man who was a big part of the administration that refused to heed the warnings and prevent the greatest national security failure in american history.

He was also a major influence in starting a needless, costly war in Iraq and the bungling of both the war in Afghanastan and the capture or killing of Bin-Laden.

Of course we should have expected such national defense incompetence from a draft-dodging, chickenhawk hypocrite whose only feat of arms has been to shoot his friend in the face.

As someone who participated in the near total destruction of our country -- a war HE wanted based on lies to the American public, the destruction of our economy, dissolution of positive international relations . . . . he must have been on another planet when we all thought he was holed up in a bunker, hiding. Too bad the media wastes time on him.

REPUBLICANS REWRITE HISTORY OR HAVE DEMENTIA

9/11 was on Bush's watch as was Richard Ried (shoe bomber) and the 2001 Anthrax attacks...

Other attacks under Republican Presidents:
1988 - Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie Scotland - 270 lives lost
1983 - The US Embassy in Beirut - 63 lives lost
1983 - Marine Barracks in Beirut - 241 Servicemen and women lost
1983 - The US Embassy in Kuwait - 5 lives lost

What if you hired a security team to protect your family.
Then you changed security companies.
9 months later your family was murdered.
According to Republican logic you'd blame the company you fired 9 months ago (Clinton).

Bush 9/11 remark never explained

Why wasn't Dick Cheney and 43 turned over to an international war crimes tribunal?

Why didn't the Obama administration, claiming we are a nation of laws, investigate the illegal actions of both those criminals?

Why is Dick Cheney allowed to walk the streets and actively work to undermine a legally elected President, something we could not say about the man in the White House eight years ago?

We didn't hold the criminals accountable after the Nixon nightmare. That made the nightmare even worse during the Reagan years where those earlier accomplices became criminals in their own right. Those thugs and mobsters laid the groundwork to destroy our economy. The Reagan mob wasn't held accountable for their impeachable acts which emboldened them further. In 43s administration they became cabinet members where they destroyed our nation. Now we are a fourth rank economic power capable of exporting arms and fast food.

We don't need taliban or al qida or other outside terrorist organizations attacking us while we have Republicans inside our country to attack us. The GOP has done more harm to this country than all the foreign wars in our history.

As it stands, 43% of Americans would prefer to have BUSH back in office. Obviously, if Biden is wrong and there is another 9/11 attack (or worse), that percentage will skyrocket. We might even go for Dick Cheney as President (although his heart condition is a concern). Obama is already worse than Carter.

Posted by: JakeD2 | February 14, 2010 12:35 PM | Report abuse

Considering how big a disaster the Dick and George Shoe has to account for, one might think that someone in the RNC might ry to limit just how much more damage Cheney can do to the party by constantly reminding people of what it was they voted for in the way of change when the elected Obama.

Yet every possible republican example of what is wrong with the republican way of politics gets incredible amounts of press time to oppose presumed Democratic policies or practices, to the point where they dig up Dan Quayle to complain about the Democrats thinking about restricting the process of filibustering legislation.

When the real Republican slate of candidates, and their T-Party opponents, comes out this summer, will those Independents actually sit down and consider just how bad, idiotic, and or criminal that party chooses to behave?

Cheney, bad heart and all, might just think he hasn't long enough to live to be held accountable for his crimes. But somebody has to get it through the RNC's circular validation process that reminding people of how you made torture the standard policy of the U. S., or how invading EVERYONE's privacy to look for things you feel are anti American, (like being anti Iraq War) in the name of security just seems counterproductive.

But hey, if they want to cut their own throats on national TV, let them.

I'm all for tarring every republican with Dick and George. Nice of D&G to help with the process.

I'd argue that a link of Biden unloading on Cheney (either before on MtP or afterwards or both) would be helpful for balance.

Like Karl Rove before him (who predicted Republican wins in 2006), Dick Cheney is permitted his own opinions, just not his own facts.
