REPUBLICANS Block Effort To Hold Big Oil Companies Accountable For Economic Damage From Spills

http://blogs.alternet.org/speakeasy/2010/05/13/shocker-gop-blocks-effort-to-hold-oil-companies-accountable-for-economic-damage-from-spills/

Big Oil will always seek to externalize costs - that is, to make society bear the cost of their activities. Be it pollution, injured workers, providing educated workforce, or what have you, corporations seek to externalize costs.

Republicans, who exist to serve the wealthiest among us, seek to help Big Oil "socialize" (tax payer bailouts) their losses.

And the Teabaggers Clowns Have No Problem With This BAILOUT!?!?

So, where's all the red faced outrage from Teabags (the Republican base) about this? I'm not holding my breath for them to show up to protest their pals, the BIG OIL OLIGARCHY!

RIGHT WING FREE MARKET RELIGION GETS LOST IN OIL SPILL

"There has never been a challenge that the American people, with as little interference as possible by the federal government, cannot handle." — Bobby Jindal, March 24, 2009

That was then.

This is now:

11 people dead in an oil rig explosion, fragile marshlands damaged, perhaps irreparably, uncalculated millions (billions?) in lost revenue for the tourism and fishing industries, and a short attention span nation transfixed by a compelling image from a deep sea camera, brown gunk billowing out from a hole in the ocean floor, Things Getting Worse in real time.

And Bobby Jindal, governor of Louisiana, off whose coast this tragedy is centered, is singing a new song, starkly at odds with what he said last year in a speech before the Republican faithful. Now he's BEGGING for federal "interference." He wants federal money, federal supplies, wants the feds to help create barrier islands to protect Louisiana wetlands from oil.

Obama's new friend is Tony Hayward - BP and crew gave Obama almost a million dollars already.

Friends forever.

So Obama let the MMS keep up (or down) the lax safety standards at the oil rigs.

EVEN as Obama reviewed offshore oil drilling for OVER A YEAR, the lax safety and environmental standards remained.

Then in March, Obama announced a new unprecedented policy - he was going to Expand offshore drilling - and the lax standards remained.

OBAMA SHOULD HAVE TO RESIGN OVER THIS.

The RESPONSIBILITY GOES DIRECTLY TO OBAMA

WHERE IS THE OUTCRY ???

Obama and the democrats just want to play politics - and cover themselves - this is absolutely ridiculous.

noa, you may have hit on something. The phrase--in way over his head--comes to mind.

...And now for something more important-
From Tonight's NY Times

"At a news conference in Metairie, La., Adm. Thad W. Allen of the Coast Guard, who is commanding the federal response to the disaster, said the cut was “a significant step forward.” But he warned that because the cut was not as straight as desired, the cap might not fit snugly, increasing the possibility that water might enter along with the oil to form icelike crystals called hydrates.

Given the string of engineering problems so far — the shears were used, for example, because a diamond-laced wire saw had become dull, perhaps from objects pumped into the well as part of an earlier failed effort — the relief well plan has faced its share of skepticism. Doubters have pointed to past problems with relief wells, including one drilled during a blowout off southern Mexico 30 years ago that was unable to stop the gusher for three months after it was completed, and another off Australia last fall that did not hit its target until the fifth try."

*****
5th try at a relief well? Wannabe Robocop cuts NOT straight enough for a tight seal?

Obama seems more and more like the mayor of near future Detroit outsourcing his city's fate to evil OCP! Where is Robocop to save us (2 sailors in a deep sea sub armed with welding or non nuke incendiary devices)?

Yet here you are bleating about this for the FOURTH TIME (Good Grief!) in search (I guess) of a link to your mothership Drudge. This rightwing sewage is beneath the standards of the Washington Post, our national political paper of record.

Next time take this junk over to the Washington Times or the New York Post, Pal. Ugh, it smells in here.

==

Journalism at its yellowest.  Unfathomable that anyone could reject the claim of brazen Republican bias (hi, BB!) with some pablum about Conventional Wisdom or Beltway this and that, not when every store covered gets twisted into more "Democrats in Trouble" and the ones that can't don't get mentioned here at all.  Remember the day HCR got passed?  Just after some titter-titter-titter about anonymous sources certain the votes weren't there .. Cillizza reported the passage in the shortestblog entry in two years and in a tone suggesting clenched teeth.

We get this junk about nobodies like Pawlenty and Thune, whom CC chases after with bouquets, chocolates, and throbbing heart .. we get non-story scandalettes presented in half a dozen separate posts, total junk writing like "context is everything in politics" with is about as useful as a six day seminar on the difference between zero and nothing.  Sestak, Blumenthal, and now Romanoff, all of them passing like an April day leaving no trace behind, all probably in hopes, dreams, fantasies of that holiest of grails, a Drudge link that brings over boatloads of comments from alleged people with very low IQs, like we don't have enough of those already in 37th and the zouks.

Yeah, I get it, CC is young, not very talented, and suddenly finds himself in the same room with Senators and Representatives who know his name, and, well, gosh, they're REPUBLICANS and Republicans are like so cool an' stuff.

As for the smell in here, that's not the love, that's the jug 37th keeps by his chair so he won't have to take bathroom breaks.

Great non-story on a totally fake anti-BHO controversy that nobody 'cept the baggers and the haters care about. But you won't let it go, will you?

What happened here or with Sestak wasn't illegal; heck, it wasn't even wrong, see legal opinion by Bush's former ethics counsel.

In fact, Ray-Gun and Bush One tried to persuade candidates to drop out of races with the promise of a job, and did so openly without a single call for their impeachment. Yet here you are bleating about this for the FOURTH TIME (Good Grief!) in search (I guess) of a link to your mothership Drudge. This rightwing sewage is beneath the standards of the Washington Post, our national political paper of record.

Hilarious...

DrainYou ranted,
"Hypocritical Republicans will whine about anything and everything anytime we have a Dem Pres (see Clinton, Bill) and yet they got all red faced with anger when it was pointed out to them that their heroes (Bush Jr and The Dick Cheney) actually should have been impeached for war crimes while they were busy trashing this country."

-------

What's stopping your boys in Washington from investigating Bush and Cheney? Dems have had control of Congress since the 2006 elections. Why no impeachment while Bush and Cheney were still in office?

I guess the answer would have to be that most Democrats aren't wingnuts like you. The only two presidents ever impeached were Democrats. Tough luck, bozo.

The country deserves an INDEPENDENT PROSECUTOR TO INVESTIGATE

1) Whether the Obama people, through a Union Official, made an offer to Blago with the intent to get Valerie Jarrett the appointment to the US Senate.

2) The Sestak affair, whether the Obama perople, through another third party, Bill Clinton, made an offer to Sestak to illegally influence the PA primary.

3) The Romanoff affair - whether an offer was made there to influence that election.

IT APPEARS THAT THERE MAY BE A CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE HERE - REPEATEDLY BREAKING THE SAME LAWS.

THAT WOULD MAKE OBAMA GUILT OF RACKETEERING.

ALL THESE CRIMES ARE IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES.

The American people need to clean house -

When MMS wasn't cleaned out properly, and oil rig safety was allowed to continue to be lax, look what happened to the Gulf of Mexico.

We have to clean house with Obama - NOW.

Here's a tip for ya, Wingnuts....FOX NEWS ALERT!

I've got something damaging to tell you about the Obama adminstration.

OK, here's the scoop! Obama paid for a hamburger last month with a $20 dollar bill! He didn't use any change and he didn't accept any change back. How can this man be about CHANGE? Please tell Faux News, Limbaugh and Sarah Plain about this ASAP!

We need to bring this President down yo! I also heard via a 3rd party that when Obama was asked "Can the Govt start another war by telling a huge lie?", Obama stated "NO, WE CAN'T!"

Ruh Roh! GOT HIM! He doesn't even believe in his own slogan!

Take this info and run with it, Wingers!

Tell Rush, Tell Crazy Glenn! Hurry! Stat! Red Alert!

Half dozen posts on this nonstory that has no implications past the disgruntlement of scandal-hungry sore losers, now even a video.

Meanwhile the head of the GOP in the state with the most salient race in the nation is arrested for actual crimes, felonies, six of them no less, and all we get about that is a passing mention.

And Cillizza has the unmitigated temerity to claim he has no bias (spits).

What is it -- four columns for this non-story?

Just can't get enough Democrat-bashing, can you CC?

Let's hear more about the Mark Kirk 'scandal.'

None of this stuff is even remotely illegal. Just like how they feel out possible cabinet officials this is the kind of thing that happens when you are filling political appointments. There is a reason why they call them POLITICAL appointments.
