Israel's gumptious Gaza blockade

By Tom Toles

Sinking feeling

You may have seen the picture, but I think it's worth a second look. We've all seen pictures of sinkholes before. A collapsed road with a diagonal car half-swallowed. A house with just the roof showing. But this one in Guatemala is quite another thing altogether.

This one is perfectly round and clearly goes all the way to the center of the Earth. This is quite obviously the road to hell, and it would be worth a look to see what or whom it is actually paved with.

And, yes, those of us who look everywhere for metaphors have found one for our time. Does one think about the underpinnings of the complex web of international finance? Does one think of corporations' sense of responsibility to the planet and its inhabitants? Does one think of the regulatory agencies set up to protect us from those corporations? Does one think of the underpinning of honesty needed for a constructive public discourse? Ethics in the nation's capital, anyone? It's all here.

And I know for a fact that there is a connecting passageway to that black box in the Farragut North Metro Station. --Tom Toles

oh, as for walls, I don't like walls. They are not a good thing...well on a small level yes but not when it involves the masses...I was in Germany a few decades ago and happened across a section of "the wall" in the countryside...there was a grave marker nearby. Between that, the barb wire, the 'nomansland' and the guards in the towers...well it left me with an eerie feeling of dread...

I believe that in the "latter days" satan is to be "thrown" down to earth. Perhaps that hole is his "mark"....
Then again...I heard my "ruling" planet took a hit for the team recently, interesting...also it is missing a cloud mass...funny thing, when that happened, I was actually physically and mentally enveloped in 'fog"....strange, if one were to believe in 'signs'.
As for the Gores...I wish them well. They are very strong in the realization that people actually do grow and change during their liftetime. Marriage is a huge gamble...sometimes you win sometimes you lose...sometimes you fold as you go with the flow...
I myself do not believe in "happily ever after" wedded bliss and one should NOT have to work at it. The only way for a true timeless connection would be if one were to find one's soul mate....and what would be the odds of that happening?
Oh and according to the bible marriage only exists during "this" lifetime...must be a man made thing...started out as a form of trade did it not???

Actually, Mister TT, my first thought was to jump.

Tom Toles,
and you think that particular sink hole is a hole to hell.
We are making huge empty cavities in the earth drilling for oil. If those cavities fill with magma, we will have mega volcanoes exploding that will devastate the earth.
We need to rethink our actions before we self-destruct. Nature has devastating ways of dealing with threats and that is what we have become.

When I saw that Sink Hole I kept expecting to see the Fantastic Four's arch-nemesis the Mole Man coming out of it!

"Does anyone not think the man made global warming fraud ship has truly sunk with the Gore spilt?"

Amen, brother! Obviously, if global warming were true, the Gores would have had a stronger marriage and stayed together!

Khaibar is the name of last Jewish village defeated by Muhammad’s army and it marked the end of Jewish presence in Arabia in 628.

Islam is such a progressive theology that San Francisco would benefit from Sharia Law..... :)

And Look! It's paved with good intentions!

In the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and Guatemala the Sinkholes are called Cenotes. They are a natural process of the underlying limestone dissolving. They have nothing to do with either sinks or their resemblance to the interior of Rush's cranium.

Gee, doesn't that hole look like it was DRILLED? Didn't I hear that BP sent its crack exploration team to Guatamala?

Punish them?

Some may want to punish Hamass or Hezbollah, but the best thing is to get public pressure to trade peace for land. What they need is peace.

Then given time and peace, the Israeli and the Palestinians will own the Middle East.

Now you know why the Arabs fear peace.

They can not compete. Or think they can not - which is just as bad.

AS usual the reactionaries slide into magical unrealism.

My reaction is WTF?

I was wondering when someone was going to say something like that about 'THE HOLE.'

Thanks Tom!

Do libs not think of the Sestak job scandal? Do libs think of what they would like to do to talk radio by putting them in a box and sealing them off? Does anyone not think the man made global warming fraud ship has truly sunk with the Gore spilt? Only the National Enquirer knows.

The sinkhole is perfect. Just think of it as the pit to pour money into for Democrat federal programs. Can't you just see dumptrucks filled with our tax dollars backing up to that hole and emptying the money down into it? Why not put the words ObamaCare or Cap and Trade right over the hole. A whole to nowhere. Our tax money goes in and nothing of any value comes out.
