Little Miss Road-Tripper

K.C. Summers

Here at Travel Central, we're thrilled that a travel movie was nominated for Best Picture this morning. We're talking, of course, about "Little Miss Sunshine," which is ostensibly about a young girl's dream to win a beauty pageant but is really your classic road-trip flick. It ranks right up there with that other masterpiece of the genre, "National Lampoon's Vacation," in lovingly recording all the hallmarks of the family road trip -- tears, curses, broken-down vehicles and the obligatory dead body. Ah, mem'ries...

Okay, so maybe those two don't exactly inspire you to hop in the car. What movie did inspire you to travel? We're voting for "Room With a View."

It's not a movie, but HBO's "Rome" makes me want to go back to that city and wander around the ancient ruins.

I think my favorite road movie is "The Sure Thing." They don't see anything of interest, but the structure of the movie makes it clear that the journey is more important than the anticipated destination--so true of road trips in general.

Fahrenheit 9/11. That one definitely made me want to leave the country.

Easy Rider deserves a nod in this category.

Before Sunrise with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. It made me wish I could just hop on a train and wander aimlessly around Europe experiencing its romance.
