Two 48-hour airline sales to take a look at. Airtran's systemwide sale ended Jan. 18, but it's back for an encore. You have until midnight tomorrow to book the sale; fares start at $39 each way (plus taxes) from Baltimore to Boston or Rochester. You have to travel by March 14, and there are blackout dates and other restrictions. Check it out at Also, take a look at a 48-hour sale from Frontier Airlines. Haven't done a detailed analysis of whether the deals are good ones from Washington, but if you're going out West and you prefer flying out of Reagan National, it's worth checking. Go to

Don't fly AirTran if you have young children. They are not child-friendly there.

Fly AirTran. They will not hold the aircraft for hours while parents cope with out of control youngsters.

I would not recommend AirTran. This summer, they lost my bag for 10 days. 10 days. Without going into detail, I was in the hole hundreds of dollars by the end of the ordeal.

They're cheap, but if anything goes wrong, you're screwed.
