What's the Deal? Special Edition

Carol Sottili

AirTran and Virgin America are offering quick sales that will end today. Here are the details:

*Airtran is offering a systemwide sale. From BWI, fares range from $49 to $144 each way plus taxes. From Dulles, fares are $74-$144 each way plus taxes. And from DCA, $79 to $144 each way. Some fares are excellent ($119 round trip from BWI to Boston including taxes is very cheap). Check some of the higher fares against other airlines to make sure the deal is real. There are holiday blackout dates, and you have to travel Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Saturdays to get the cheapest seats. Sale applies to travel March 25-Oct. 29.

*Virgin America is holding a "Try & Fly" fare sale. From Dulles, you can fly nonstop to San Francisco or Los Angles for $258 round trip plus about $21 taxes. You may find cheaper fares, but the flights are a cut above average, with such niceties as a personal inflight entertainment system and a 110v power plug-in at every seat. Sale applies to travel March 25-May 21.
